Fuel tank Drain plug/bolt .
moosens replied to 80BratGage's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Yeah I just tried too and got frustrated very quickly. Hang in there. Simple enough info. My guess would be that it’s the same size as something like the crank pulley bolt or a suspension bolt. In case you want to try to remove one and see if it’s the same size. Then you can walk into the nut n bolt shop with confidence. -
Dammit , I forgot again and I even looked right at my pile of manuals. Sorry about that. But it seems you’re commanding the situation. Suggesting that you look in all corners of the interior. Maybe that guy tucked it away. And after that I will try to put my brain on when I get home and check the manual.

Spring hooks can be handy here. Long needle nose or duckbill pliers and a rubber band to help keep pliers closed while you free up a hand. Just foggy memories but getting that plastic retainer hooked up right that’s where the spring hook used to really help. -

Sorry I forgot to check. Will do in the morning or shortly after. You might be able to beat me to it. I think there’s online pdf. file of the older parts manuals. -

So you don’t have one at all ? When I get to my manuals I will check to see if they declare the size and thread pitch. -

It’s ok you’ll be fine. Nothing falls apart. -
38 hours , oh man. Well if you do please wait for warm weather. There’s been a good number of guys selling old 70’s parts so shop around. I don’t mind selling part but right now it’s too cold for me to make time at my storage.

Being serious now , and I tell this to other like yourself , put the ad in Craigslist NYC , Boston , Philly too. Nostalgia sales happen there now. Most of the rest of the country won’t spend the fat money on it right now. But the fat wealth doesn’t get affected , you know that. So market it in the FAT markets. They’re very few these days. But always NYC and in this case I would try to cover the New England area and then also the Philly area because SOA headquarters have always been right over the river from there. Best of luck with it. Yeah , start at $2500 or so. Take advantage. Just naturally sell “as is”. Cheers! -

Yeah , some Long Island Princess might say “hey hubby snag me that old Subaru or I start screwing your accountant”. ok that’s maybe an extreme , not so much if you live near NYC -
Service Manual question?
moosens replied to Checkerboard Comet's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Looks like one to keep around. No difference from the later of the same class , they just made them all Loyale while the new line emerged. So bumpers are exact other than lighting arrangements, little trim. You found out they mount with zero difficulty I’m sure. -
Yeeehaaa ! Nice effort!

Tonneau cover for brat???

Holy grail type of item. I think the last person I recall having one was maybe Mick. Try posting this on the face dook groups. Not my favorite place to hang out but I know Mick checks in there lots more than here. -

Patience. It’ll be better soon. From my memory you can get it without removing the glass. Keep your crank handy. But if you just can’t and do want it remove the glass it’s not that hard. Rather than fumble through instructions just use your 10mm socket and find the mounting spots. Then lift the glass and as I recall tipping it back up/nose down seems to ease the clearance needed. Many of us have done it and we are no more a mechanic than you. -
Hey it’s me from eBay - cashingmystuffin , aka Paul. As mentioned come warmer weather I’ll dig out all I have. Meanwhile I did leave some close to the front of my storage so I’ll try to yank out what I can and hopefully they apply to your ride. Keep looking , you’re doing the right thing. I do have KYB’s and there’s a couple others from back in the day before the aftermarket stuff became mostly crap. Talk to you soon.

You could use either , best suited to what you do and where you’re located. But the 180 is fine enough. Some folks get a little antsy when their old 70’s Subaru sits in traffic and the temp goes up kind of fast. But that’s usually the fan.

Don’t get too scared. Some of us have been involved a long time and have parts. Things are slow for me right now , busy in life , but slow for listing parts and such. Come April I should be back to selling off my collection. A couple guys like myself started retaining good quality used parts as well as SEEKING OUT NEW OLD STOCK FROM OLDER DEALERSHIPS , etc etc and we generally have what’s needed to keep these vehicles going for a good while. I am stepping aside from it all and only going to retain a bare minimum of consumables and various replacement parts. So I am selling the rest. There’s an awful lot. All from 1970-1979 and gen one Brat. Located in Milford CT if you’re at all willing to drive up come springtime. Jason from NC also a member here drove up and made out really well being the first one to make the effort. Good luck ! And enjoy !!

Sweet ! Right on Karl ! And the 650 Dakar , cooool. When you have a few minutes I suggest you check out this blog I guess it is , of an old rider who favors the 650 as his best to ride for his incredibly lengthy “career” of adventure riding. http://pietboonstra.blogspot.com/?m=1 Looking at your rides I see a few we also had through our family. My dad’s 92 Ranger is still going strong same as my 92 year old dad. Enjoy ! Quick quote from Piet’s blog: During my 67 years and 1¼ million miles of riding, my records show that I owned and rode 33 different motorcycles: 2 1947 Harley Davidsons 74 cu. in. Of those, the F650 Dakar had the best reliability and lowest repair and maintenance costs.
