Sorry , I can’t recall and didn’t see from a good glance at my inboxes. Earl , you wanted the black one which was for manual shift , correct ? I am pretty sure that’s still here in a box and I’ll come across it soon. This brown automatic base is on eBay and I’ll gladly yank it down if someone here was the one asking about it. Sorry no pic now but check ebay. You know me by now - cashingmystuffin - that’s me. Have some stickers n other stuff I’m cleaning out but also have tons of vintage Subaru new old stock and great used parts. Look for more paper goods soon. I am thinning out the brochures and nomenclature , etc etc Enjoy !

Can I make life easier by installing a different master cylinder from an automatic or non hill holder ? You nice folks tried to help me disconnect it and set it out of the way , but I still can’t seem to shake the dreaded DRAG on occasions. I have to put the car in neutral and do the hokie pokie with the pedals to get the car moving comfortably again. Normally I like the HH , but balancing it out these last couple or years has gotten annoying. I once considered myself pretty good at that clutch/ HH adjustment. But I’m not getting younger. That’s a big issue. This car has paid for itself several times over but it’s like that blanket of Linus’ from Peanuts. It’s so hard to give up. Front wheel drive and I still love it. 1992 Legacy L wagon. Front wheel drive.

He’s right again. Just that I would take that chance. Adds to the budget and only you know what your finances dictate. Roll dice , don’t roll dice. But the engine is a solid performer and odds are you’d at least get a year out of it. For all we know maybe that’s all you expect or want from it. I’ve been there. Grab a winter beater so I can work sidejobs and make many thousands of dollars from a $500 car.... done that. Worth it. Actually at the same point now with my 2003. I’ll do the headgaskets because I really want to keep this car. That’s my expectancy. Not a favor to my budget but we hope times plays out well and the job becomes even more worthwhile.

So you all know , I sure don’t have a lot of extra time and I have one good car to use and another back up which only has a lousy hill holder I can’t seem to properly disconnect , so therefore I will indeed take what seems like quite a while to get to this car. That makes me feel better. So here’s where I’m at and my latest questions. That crazy explosion of metal and all which came to a calm after a minute or so , I’m beginning to think it’s the differential. But you guys review what I tell and let me know your thoughts please. The car starts and engine runs really well. I have the clutch pedal in because when I lift it there is engagement and the car wants to lunge forward. I’m not sure which gear it is in but I suspect the 5th from when it happened. But given this evidence is it safe to say the clutch disk hasn’t exploded ? Or would it be the opposite of what I’m thinking and there will instead indeed be constant contact and therefore drive because it’s just all mangled up and pieces are causing it to grab ? If if I have a place to work on it the tranny would be down , engine out too , and i would gladly hunt for whatever I needed for this car. I really like it and want to try to resurrect its shiny arse. Thanks again! Hopefully soon I have an arrangement for space to work. Usually one of my brothers or a friends place but I’m kind of getting annoying these past few winters it seems , just bad timing , which is a further strain on my friends and family. Condo life. Has its drawbacks.

I’m on an I phone 6 so no right click option. But hey , I’m bumping up to an 8 as soon as I make time to set it up. Maybe I’ll be able to select those options at that time. My thought was simply that I’ve bought these same plugs from the same dealer and now they show up with whatever oriental print on them I never had seen before. And the color of the metal is darker than usual like the video showed. Anyone else recently but spark plugs from a known dealer and can post pics ?

Jason from NC just made off with a mess of stuff. He didn’t mind the drive , was happy with his take , and didn’t mind helping move stuff out and back in. It was a fun enough kind of day. Anytime I can have a buddy there and going through boxes and stuff it’s a bit of a thrill. So much cool stuff ! Still have fenders , couple of 1600’s one early , one widecase internal water ATK rebuild in crate. Have s/r first 4WD trannies , rear diffs , couple of front bars A style I guess they are. Also steel wheels brand new or super close to new. They were NOS we bought in 2007. There are rear skirts there too - brand new , ‘cause who would remove one ? These weld in place. Hold the tail lights and license plate , that piece. There are stage one sedan and I think coupe too. Brat and 4WD wagon FRONT VALANCES (2) used and one miracle NOS that I hunted for years and finally scored. Some bumpers or metal center beams , new and used. The brand new white flat spoke Made by Jackman for Subaru Of America 13” wheels WITH THEIR CENTERCAPS. Open large wallet please. New in their boxes. Going to need a little session there to straighten up and reassess what’s left for the smaller stuff like interior plastic and exterior trim , lights , etc. Milford CT exit 35 off I-95 , easy to reach. Hotels right next to the storage place if you need one. Cheaper hotels about a mile away. Drive over and you’ll be happy. I appreciate it and reciprocate with discounts. Typical - J offers xxx and I said give me xx. He made a hell of an effort. And he was smart and beat you guys. But plenty left ! 2020 I have to get out of this large , expensive storage hole. Help me out !

The Bubble for the sitters. You know what I’m talking about. Drive into it , zip it over , and the low voltage fan fills the bubble and keeps the car fairly well in northern garages. Hoping your garage was poured with a moisture barrier. Sorry GD but it’s CT here and about as salty and corrosive as it gets. My 1978 4WD wagon was solid car for three decades due to Zeibart PROPERLY INSTALLED , holes , wand , and caution to drainage. Small plastic drains inserted in doors and in general the folks who did my car did it correct. The last of those cars on the road around the northeast - probably 1999-2002 maybe there were a couple besides mine. My car is still going with a new owner. Has rust now after neglecting the Zeibart as it aged and chipped away in a few spots. If I wasn’t raising a family and had a garage that car would still be mine and still be 98% solid or better. My uncle just passed away last year. His 1969 Ford truck is still here. He sprayed it with light oil every year. They’re asking around $7k for it. Not worth that much , but it’s still here , runs and drives , stops too !

Thanks again ! Yes those angry leprechaun bastids. Had zero time today buy as I was on my way out I stopped and gave a quick look only. Should post pics. There’s some funky looking - I want to say it’s makeshift hack - and not factory - item attached to the stub axle. How I didn’t see this must have been the $450 factor. Must have temporarily blinded me. But I’m an admitted rookie on these. Do the inner joints look way different on a 2000-2004? I’m prehistoric. Saw some moisture underside on the ground , but that also maybe water from the rain yesterday. What I saw was just a few drops. Rest of the underside looked good at quick glance. Starts and engine runs fine. Ok Happy New Year you fellow knuckle busters !!! See you next year.

Happy New Year Mr. Bennie! Will investigate soon. Maybe not even tomorrow. Have a guest up from NC buying old school parts. 1970’s coolness. Was up at storage giving him a preview for tomorrow when we go deep into the vault. Dropped him at the hotel and took a hard left which I think exasperated the already weak CV. The highway entrance was just a few feet away and it’s an uphill ramp so I gave it the usual gas. Got about a half mile after leveling off the pedal and staying in the right lane casually , then bang clang metal noise spinning like a jumble kind of noise. Sort of like metal hitting the ground but when I got out - nothing ! Looked like it always does. Keep in mind this car was just bought and registered on the 24th. $460 , not a big deal. Worse case it’s got great parts all over. But being a Subaru I’m expecting I’ll have the engine out , do the clutch , reseal all around , timing and pumps , the usual whole deal. Just hoping I haven’t wasted the gearbox. Smelled gear oil for sure just as the tow guy let it down to rest. Got in and started it. Let the clutch out and you can hear a whirring noise vrr vrr vrr type of noise. It’ll sort of attempt to grab and move but at that point it’s like a failed clutch. But since I was just reading that post last week or less about the rear axle issue and it feeling like a clutch , I thought I’d see what you guys think. I’m pathetically immersed in old school , like stuck in the 70’s and 90’s 2.2 early series 90-94. Last hydraulic clutch I had was on a motorcycle. And I did the clutch on my friend’s 67 Lotus Elan. And assisted with another local guy fellow Elan owner on his 64 I think. Also never had a clutch make such noises. Happened so quick and my bad left ear I couldn’t really pinpoint where it all came from. Axle would be too easy. And why would the tranny feel like total mush now ? I guess it’s been a while since I had any clutch issues. I can’t recall having the tranny feel like this just because of the clutch. Of course I mean the shifter and that it just doesn’t feel like it’s engaging anything and it’s sloppy in all directions. So apparently it’s in a gear since it wants to tug ever so slightly. Ok sorry to ramble. Need to sleep soon. Check back if I can’t sleep or tomorrow. Thanks all ! Happy New Year !!!!

Tune in tomorrow for the conclusion. At highway speed in the right lane something went bang clank and stuff. Tranny feels like mush. After it happened I pulled over , waiting on AAA now. Started it back up and put it in gear. It felt like a bad clutch. Beforehand I could hear noise when releasing the clutch that I didn’t like. Still drove it because my brain thinks of old school reliability. Guess I should have kept it parked until I could investigate. The noise sounded like metal. Lots of it. Spinning around like cans in a clothes drier or something. Jackass should have been here already. See you all back soon. Back to my reliable 2.2’s !!

Notorious on those EA82T’s for corrosion and failure. I might still have a new one.

How Many Members of USMB?
moosens replied to Subarule's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
It’s way past it’s peak (the USMB) due to the face dook trend which has made good men into .... ok I’ll stop there. Many folks who I electronically rubbed elbows with HERE are now gone and have found FB a place they feel comfy. I think it blows. Not the time for debate and there’s good aspects of it as well as the B/S. Just too much B/S. So as far as membership goes I don’t know what we topped off at. Used to see statistics like that on here somewhere. Bottom of the page. But we’ve changed providers and whatnot. Maybe there’ll be a resurgence one day. Who knows. Features like adding pictures sure help. Took me TWENTY YEARS but I finally got out West and met some of the really great folks who have made this board a great place to hang out for over two decades now. The WCSS is a cool event which the USMB members had a lot to do with. Thats a little bit of yappin’ about the USMB. Maybe one one of those guys like Legacy777 will show up and give details.
