Newer folks - welcome ! Springtime is here and I’ll be continuing my clearance at storage and selling off lots of parts old and NEW from the 1970’s For those unaware there are at least two or three face book groups for older Subarus. You want to check those - especially the Classic Subaru Group 4x140 , that’s where I’m listing the majority of my parts for sale. Please don’t start asking about parts you are looking for. Please do check in and see what I’ve dragged out and listed. If you don’t get a reply from me when inquiring it means I feel you didn’t read and comprehend. It’s just too much to dig items out. You nice folks can be patient and see what the river flows your way and select as presented. Thanks for your understanding. And NO , I and NOT bringing items to WCSS. Just me. I’m the ITEM. Lol and not for sale. Cheers!

Board bump. Yeah , it’s a little tricky planning this trip. Hang in there and I’ll see you all soon enough. Various obstacles. But in general it’s now looking more like a quick trip out with full focus on the PNW. Not likely that I’m going to hit the jackpot with my plans to see the top of the country and Yellowstone. But someday. And yeah Jerry , I want to see the Cascades and hope to see you too either way at home or the show. So stinks popping dream balloons. In my mind I’m driving , touring Nat’l parks , bringing home a vintage wagon , etc etc etc. Paring it down to the basic requirements. Getting to WCSS and hanging out with some fellow ale drinking knuckleheads. At this writing it’s looking like I’d be flying into Sea-Tac sometime around the 4th. I’ll be sure to arrive at a time that doesn’t screw up your plans. So maybe the 2nd or 3rd or 5th. TBD Thanks again!

I cruise 75-80 all day in my stock 2.2 1992 Legacy Wagon here in CT. 313,000 miles and can still pass cars as needed. My wife’s 94 Legacy wagon , even better. Only 113,000 on it and rides great now that we swapped the air ride system out for stock springs. That one hits 90 with ease and you have to back off some. Good luck. Plenty of us here that can look back and see money we could have spent better.

Agree. But if he wants the shortcut , it’s been done and documented in the archives. And it’s not all that dramatic stuff you threw in there. Sure it’s hack. But it’s what folks will do sometimes here and there. Pretty sure this only works for the EA81’s 1980-84 USA and Gen 2 Brat and Hatchbacks until their end of run. Chris that did the original post is no hack. He’s a really smart guy. Dremel tool , facing the box right side up , couple hoses and a link.

I’m highly recommending you research the archives and just be patient a bit at this moment. You should only need to disconnect hoses , and unhook the throw link and swap the unit. Put the link back on and hoses and if desired you can put the cut out piece back in. Take a look before you leap. Cheers!

There is archived a way to remove and replace the core thru the drivers side , I’m pretty sure , using a dremel tool. Personally I don’t have a problem removing the dash but it is a bit more involved that just the core via this method mentioned. The original poster was Chris Lantieri , who’s board name I can’t recall. This is for all EA81 cars and Gen 2 Brat.

I probably have a few buried away that I’d need to dig for - like soon but not too soon. Also , I’m still not 100% sure but there’s a chance I’ll just part out my 78 4WD wagon which is the same engine and tranny harness. Again , can’t promise soon. But at least I’m here for backup if you don’t score soon. Most vehicles this old it’s probably not a bad idea to at least trace and replace the wire(s) giving you problems , or create your own harness. Motorcycle folks do it , just a little more for a 70’s Subaru. -
Possibly the oldest Subaru in Sweden is sitting in a dealership , a 1976 metal flake brown 2 door sedan. That was mine. Sent to Sweden with only 36,000 miles on it. I think the family name is Phillips. Two of the three sons involved were rally racers in the European series. Just a little story for you. Enjoy !

Any hope of preventing rust in New England?
moosens replied to Jack in Norfolk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Agree and disagree a little , but in general proper advice , thanks. Scott - my 78 Subaru wagon survived up here in CT by the salt water - Zeibart , done correctly. Pete - same as above. Not much hope , but there is some. Just learn to enjoy using it like the tool that it is. Romp in the snow. Howl at the moon. Maybe stuff happens and you get another one from out west. -

That tranny will give you 200k. No B/S.
