1978 Subaru GF hardtop! now what?
moosens replied to gfdan's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Didn't the farmers daughter want it ? No real performance upgrades. You can do some things but it'll still be an old Subaru. Not too rare , but you may notice there aren't a lot of '78/9 anythings on the road. Need anything for it ? I have lots of parts. Check out crappy face book - there are a couple or so groups dedicated to old Subarus. "Classic Subaru Network" and Old School Subaru Group are two you'll want to check out. Here is great too for sure. Good luck with it. -

Sorry , but there isn't anyone I know of who re-manufactures rubber. But good news ! You can either get one from me or just go through the supplier who made them for our group here. PRP - look for an archived post. The subject comes up a few times a year. Part number should be WCR-288 but double check that. The last batch they had made was around 2009 or 2012 , much better than 40 year old stuff. Check with them first and if they are out let me know. Precision Replacement Parts -
Although I can't stand face dook I'm a member there as well as many of us here are. Joining a private group isn't so bad. And it's there that you'll find me unloading lots of 70's NOS and great used parts. Classic Subaru Group 4x140 Ultimate Subaru Old School Subaru Group Those three I'm involved with. Most of my sales are happening on the Classic Group 4x140 site

Don't buy cheap crap. Gates belts kits were good , but I hear people saying they've gone to including lesser quality bearings , so do check. Bearings should be NTN or another well made brand. Take some time and read archived posts. It's the best policy to replace all seals and other items like the water pump. You can typically reseal the oil pump and you're good. Also the small elbow shaped hose coming off the water pump - bypass hose - spend the $8 and get that along with good hose clamps. Thermostat and gasket there too.

Weekend dive into storage approaching. Not sure how much energy I'll have after working but yet another SHOUT OUT to any fellow northeast folks. If you haven't seen , I've been starting to list lots of parts and there's lots more to come out. New Old Stock , great used , manuals , etc. Joined dreaded face dook and am a member there in closed groups such as this Board's , the 4 x 140 group , and a couple others. Also threw some items on dreaded e bay. Helpers are certain to score well and have a great time. Shooting for a solid Saturday starting early - 6:30am With company and a reason to persist , I will hammer out a long day. But I don't want to be there come sundown. Sunday I'm hoping I'm back there early as well. But Sunday will not be a long day. If you can't make it by noon or so don't bother. Ok let's see who this shakes out. Lol NO expectations here. And if you're wondering , yes I do appreciate good IPA.

Oh , sorry I didn't read too well. Cut floor out etc , So show what's left to do. East coast , going to be rust , but an 81 with dual range is a rarity here now. And could be lots of fun.
-
How do people get ahold of you? Email ? I'm sure if folks had a picture or more that would help. If you have a low rust Gen I Brat in the east it'd be sold , so post pics or supply them somehow. The parts alone sound like a deal.

1979 Subaru Wagon 1.6L carb gasket help
moosens replied to NATEUDD's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
All the FPM's out there and nobody has replied yet. Maybe some are archived here ? -
They also corrode and wizz all over the passenger side floor if in rust zones etc. They are still out there occasionally. I might have one left. Depends on where you are and how you feel , but to me here in rustlandia i would replace it. West coast maybe not. The dash thing is easier than most people think. Plenty of references here.

Pretty sure I have an entire kit. Might have those gaskets seperate somewhere too. Will check tomorrow morning. I'm sure I have a Bosch rebuild kit new unopened. -
MotoAmerica (AMA Pro Racing) motorcycle road racing this weekend at NJMP in Millville NJ. Short notice , I'll be there. 1992 Legacy wagon charchol grey with a Sears cargo box on top. Park in the infield , you'll see me. Stop by around lunch. I'll be cooking. Cheers! Saturday for me , I couldn't swing the whole weekend this year.

North if you'd drive that far is Miles Fox. Just a thought. Last I knew he was still up Milwaukee way. If interested search his name here and contact him. They tell you those pumps are like $300+ so I understand how you paid so much. But there are cheaper alternatives. I freaked out when I had the same engine as you and needed that pump too.

Labor Day's labor for me was as the title says. For those who are timid about trying something like this I'd like to tell you it's not he easiest job when alone but it's entirely possible in about 2 hours if you have to cut out for an aftermarket sunroof. Said sunroof was the downfall of the fabric ceiling liner. (Alpine Sport) Outdoor series came with cloth liners and a woven cloth seat set. The leaky sunroof also caused the power window relay to short , or the wires anyways. So the sunroof is well sealed and now the crappy cloth liner has been replaced with the typical hard vinyl covered liner. Managed to keep a few pillar covers up while doing it. Got one side started by hanging it in the side trim I left up but loose. Little by little got the other side hung in the center and worked my way to the back and sealed that up , set the rear cargo light in and rear trim header. Couple of push pins back there too. Then worked the front and slowly got my way around tucking it all in place with wires through the holes etc. Used the old liner as a template and fine tuned the sunroof radius corners. Did pretty good measuring a lot and being patient. But the cloth liner is a little off for the dome light , so I left that for another day. Also , the hard liner takes a dip forward of the sunroof which has left a gap. I'll come up with something there. Happy Labor Day ! Union !

Back of my storage I have no less than three 1977-1979 , Gen I Brat Single Range If you really need one shipped I'll do it but just not too lightening quick. They don't weigh much. I equate it to a sack of cement or maybe even lighter. Otherwise you can drive on over and grab n go. Milford CT exit 35 off I-95 $ contact me here PM or email moosens at yahoo

Windshield Glue or Seal ?
moosens replied to rdweninger's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Precision Replacement Parts may have them. They made two batches for us with 70's Subarus. Good luck. Seen them occasionally on eBay thru at least one seller who I think was rt66motors or something with rt66 in it. But PRP stock will likely be more fresh than anyone else's.
