  1. Yeah the sad part about owning and keeping vintage Subarus is how quickly generations disappear. We folks in the rust zones are lucky to see first gen. Legacys let alone Loyales , and back. There's pockets of hoarders that eventually their stuff trickles out. You folks with the EA81's and newer have it much easier than us 70's folks. My advice is grab the best parts now for stock, if you have space. Good luck with it!
  2. Originals at 25 years old are better than the Chinese crap I was a sucker for after not even a year they are cracked up looking horrible. The dealer is probably talking about the seam atop the rear wheel aprons that hold dirt , turn to rust , create a hole for water to pass through going inside to the corners and wheel arch that we typically see rot in. If he is talking about strut mounts I don't see it like the other guys who chimed in.
  3. Well , between myself , another guy here , and in a building I can't get into and supposedly nothing is supposed to be taken from that bldg until court settles issues ...... so between all that there's a black , brown , and pretty sure a blue late 70's and early 70's steering columns complete. I'll do my best but winter isn't over yet and my storage is cold and down the road a bit.
  4. These models don't really come under the typical car club you mention but indeed you have found the right place. Our clubhouse burned down but it's ok now we can all fit in one place. Lol And yeah , I'm a potential recipient as I drive a '92 Legacy FWD five speed and hope to continue my enthusiastic adventure of getting the most miles-per-dollar I can. My car is getting tired especially the transmission. I am seeking either your transmission or even the vehicle as whole if transport doesn't kill it. moosens at yahoo if you want to email. Cheers!
  5. If you keep it be sure to take the Philip screws out and check that the thin metal flaps haven't broken up. That and those plastic hat or saucer shaped unit upwind of the carburetor. Those also break down and little pieces of the plastic go into the carb and create problems. The 85 or 86? Brat that I sold to Skip did just that. Poor Skip had the throttle stuck at some really bad moments going over the mountains heading home. Just a little FYI on that whole "air stream" circuit.
  6. We sure do keep the heli coil makers going. Lol Hey I've gotten some early 70's cars from eastern WA and Idaho. Don't forget western MT. High n dry. Pay the shipping. There are websites where transport companies compete for your business. Or choose an old reliable like DAS , or other. Saves your time and money. Gas , road food , hotels ..... Easily going to spend more than say $800 or less depending on your location. I will probably be driving something 90's Subaru back from the west over the next few years with my son heading out there. Otherwise it's THE thing to do in my opinion. And be aware how that rear rust starts and prep your car as soon as it gets here. The seam atop of the rear strut towers is where it all starts. I'm hoping to run something early 2.2 for another decade or so. Yeah I'm cheap. Thrifty cheap.
  7. Ahhhh , thank you sir. Yeah I've got fenders , glass , some seats , interior bits , rebuilt starter , alternator , voltage regulator , some alloy wheels , etc...
  8. 1977 there is a Stage I with vertical heater control and bodywork with an indented line through the fenders doors and rear quarter , and Stage II which is the same as 1978-9 bodywork. Which do you have? And what kind of random stuff are you looking for? I have fenders , and Jesse might have a trunk lid , maybe my old maroon hood too.... Springtime almost here. Time to rip through storage.
  9. How many miles on that metal gear you're tossing?
  10. Find the metal upgrade gear. They made them and somewhere I'm sure there's one out there for sale.
  11. Bridgeport CT Seaside Park and the Shark lurks off the beach.
  12. To go back to your original post I'd say you'll never find one - kit - but you might get lucky with the guy who has Danny W's old stock. Djcommie if I'm correct. Or there's a couple others here and on eBay with new old stock but KITS hardly ever show up in factory form now. Subafreak - Jesse - redid mine as I was able to source the seals mostly through my dealer and some gathered from past finds. This truly is s weird one you've got here. First one I've heard of. I have at least one extra of these trannies but it's buried and it's the dead of winter. And I'm in CT. You probably don't need a re-seal just getting the dropped plate out but given its age I'd say do it and feel better going forward. Good luck !
  13. Dont trash it! Hey if you figure out a free photo upload thing please post back here. I'm going nuts trying to post into my gallery or even get a free host. I have an old account but my computer or system is too lame for their dook.
  14. Holy dog doo , muthuh ....... Well , to start with , yeah I've been thinking about you too. Did I try to contact you maybe end of last year? Anyways , my '78 is getting rough as in throw in the towel , maybe. And my son will be an AZ resident soon ..... we've gotta talk !! Send me a PM with your number. Seems I deleted it or didn't make it over to this phone. Welcome back ! Cheers!!
  15. Then the snow started ... But yeah I really am going to push stuff out this year. Going to be minus 4 on Saturday so I'm kind of thinking of my toes and how much I like them not blue. Lol Soon , and it'll be with Greyhound
  16. Wow ! , hey please don't even mention putting some hack light in place when there's like a few guys out there who have it new. I'm unable to grab my new old stock from the back of my storage right now but there's other folks with the same light. They are common among NOS dealer finds. I'll get back to you though.
  17. No , it's kind of dead of winter right now. I won't even consider any activity at storage these next couple of weeks. Expected -2 degrees and I work overnights so it's just a bad combo right now.
  18. Interesting. Best of luck with it. I'm about to send a similar condition set of the same seats out west , less a drivers seat. You'll have to get yours doctored up because finding any drivers seat in mint condition is impossible. I have for sale a coupe fuel filler door. And an early style gas pedal too. I have some locks for doors and trunk. Hmmm , more if I can dig but it's winter so no promises. Some of us here started with these vintage cars quiet a while back. There's myself and a few others who have gotten small lots of new old stock from closed out or elder dealerships. I also have those tail lights complete. Have new side markers and turn signals. Etc... We'll talk soon. Cheers!
