EA 81 valve cover washers
moosens replied to Dwayne Oxford's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sometimes called bolt boots. You may get lucky if you search for the gaskets and scroll until you find that seller that has the boots included. I know you don’t need more gaskets but finding the boots by themselves will be tough. There’s a few guys who have some NOS 80’s parts. Hopefully you cross paths. -
“ CVT is junk, CANBUS is junk. 10 years old - time to trade up or trade back to something that's not a rolling plastic computer. Is your phone 10 years old? Is your TV 10 years old? Exactly.....” GD Rick, I want to thank for first for the assistance you offer when you somehow manage to spare time for the nice folks here, but also for putting out there straight for folks. I’ve saved this quote of yours to clue in folks I know driving these newer Subarus. We do have a 2006 and as I know it that’s fly by wire and that’s where guys like me turn yellow. My cars: 79, 94, 2003, 2003, 2006 Cheers!

Yeah I had the x car go topper way back and then a second one came along after I’d finally given the first one away and missed it badly. Love these wagons. I’m letting mine kind of go to the wind with the body but it’s holding strong. I’m just not spending on the body. Love it so much I got the lifetime alignment at the tire shop because regardless of aesthetics I know it’ll keep rolling. That whole “2.2 Magic” thing took a while to hit me but once it did I’m simply sold for life. I think I had it in my profile or somewhere but it’s basically 70’s for fun and 2.2 for daily. Need nothing else really. Enjoy !!

Oh man now I’m jealous. Meet you in the Barrens.

auxiliary belt power steering pulley missing
moosens replied to Hamm3y's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You’re out west so you’ll score. If you were out east I’d say try F&S at their Roxbury CT location. They also have a shop in Waterbury where they are Subaru specialists and longtime dedicated to the brand. A couple of those guys have Brats and are somewhat vintage enthusiasts. Getting tougher on this coast. But these folks I’m talking about are probably the last ones around the northeast that they may have what you need for any Subaru from the early 70’s on. If you can’t score I’d give them a call. -

Ok then let’s see your pulleys and alignment please. Tough to tell from your post but my first thought is somehow the tension is loose. Again, I’m not there and can’t see from here. There are plenty of hoarders somewhat. Catching them in a good mood at the right time is another story. Good luck. -

Or try eBay and input your vehicle in the search and add belt or air conditioning etc -

Sorry about your experience. Hurts when people lie and waste your time and gas etc. And they don’t sweat a drop. Heartless machines. I will warn my son who is local and he will let his circle of car buddies know too. Thanks ! Just be aware it’s total flakeville now. The California shop/service mentality has spread coast to coast. I’d say northeast not as bad but they’re here and you’ve gotta get things in writing. Good luck with your next Subaru wherever it comes from.

I’m just catching onto this thread. I daily drive a 94 Outdoor Sport edition with a spruce paint color pretty much same as yours or slightly more blue. So I just skimmed through , haven’t given a good read. It man I’ve still got a crap load or parts for that era. Speaking of Jersey pretty soon I’ll be back down there at NJMP for the motorcycle races. Would be cool to romp around the Barrens. Ours sure has a few times. And camped too. Acts as the family truck as needed. Has hauled engine crane and engines! Heck even my FWD 92 wagon did that. I really love these cars. I can’t believe I didn’t take one on until 2007. But once the bug bit me that was it. I’m infected. Lol Enjoy! Let me know what you need. I happen to have way too many cam seals. And some other NOS on my shelves. And plenty of good lights etc etc. Cheers!

Yes, Premier has become THE premier Subaru dealer now with I think at least three locations. But the big dog in Branford is the one you’d want to visit. I’m not sure if he keeps any classics in the other locations. Maybe he will place one or two at each. I would. Ahh, I need to get my tail in gear with being able to use the gallery here and post pics easily. For now I can’t and I’m too tired or lazy at the moment to got through all the outside sourcing etc. Soon I’ll get some pics. But you can also email me at moosens@yahoo.com and I’ll gladly reply with some pics. And for shows, well everyone has copied the really big shows. I think it can be said without question that the New Canaan C&C show is the one to go to anywhere near here. That’s pretty much copied from the west coast guys. Now every other town wants to copy but of course you can’t match the wealth of Fairfield County and Westchester Co. next door. So the cars that have shown up are over the top. Plenty of more common cars and lesser value too. But the super cars are too much. I haven’t gone in quite a while. Like Yogi Bera said - nobody goes there anymore because it’s too crowded. But I suggest everyone in the area attend one at least once. Check it out online first and maybe that’s good enough. Lots and lots of stories to tell. That whole thing started with a handful of guys who met at Zumbach’s and then took off for a spirited ride. My friend in his 67 Lotus Elan had a really hard time keeping up at times. Then it grew and the rides had to stop. Then it just grew and grew. Ok I’ve gotta cut out but hope we catch up soon.

AND …. Also if you weren’t aware you could really enjoy a stop by at Premier Subaru in Branford. It’s sort of museum. See the $47k Brat there. Cheers!

Hey where in CT are you ? There’s a few, very few of us vintage Subaru owners here. I’m down in beautiful Bridgeport. Keep your eyes open for a 79 4wd wagon soon. And which show was that ? Be sure to hit a Caffeine and Carburetors in New Canaan if you haven’t already. Enjoy !

Loose shaft? Hitachi leaking fuel.
moosens replied to Westy Gen2's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My thought was contemporary gasoline and accelerator pump seals not liking each other. Seen the rubber boot erode faster than I think the tank of fuel was used up. And that was after using one from a carb. kit. I guess if it were my cake to bake I’d break it down and soak the body and float chamber. Blow out the jets and passages. Double check that float and the needle. Not sure how much experience you have on these but you may have to remove the float chamber top a few times to get the adjustment correct. Lots of voodoo and witchcraft too. Good luck. Post back with results.- 1 reply

I would ask for very specific pictures of the underside. If you’re not 100% certain of what I mean do a little look through the archives and you’ll see the “rear box” mentioned a lot. I’m from a rust zone and didn’t look to see where you’re from. Regardless there’s always the four cam engine with its head gasket issues to consider avoiding but you seem to want to take that on. Keep in mind that back 15 years ago or so people were falling all over themselves to do a 2.2 swap. Good luck with your decision.

Also about to install similar. For my situation have some 1970’s NOS in their original wax paper wrap with what I expect is more of a protectant coating than a true grease packing. Then I also have later made - 1980’s into 2000’s that vary. Some also look like packed but I expect mostly to survive shelf life coatings. Others completely dry. So to me I’m counting on lots of flushing before packing. But please let’s hear from the the guys who are far more active than you and I. Just to add , I’m also currently doing other newer Subarus. The Koyo we just did was dry for our 2003 Legacy front. Just bought a BCA which is the NTN re-boxed. That’s dry too.

Are you aware of the somewhat recent sale of the 2500 mile (more or less) 1978 Brat that sold for around $47k ? If not then I’d bet you’re a bit excited right now. But that Brat and the circumstances were unique. That said it still drove up prices across the board on Brat , 4WD wagon , parts for those , and in the background generally raised values on all things 1970’s Subaru and the second Gen Brat. Hope I didn’t just tell you what you already know. Bring A Trailer is the top selling site for all things with wheels that are unique. My opinion. It seems to be more for people who don’t waste time as well. Commit and pay and pickup. Videos sure help. If it’s solid then show that in the places the buyer is most concerned. You know the deal. Folks in the group are mostly very thrifty and wouldn’t give you the price it deserves. Myself included in that group. Ok you read this far now you deserve my guesstimate. No picture and no write up. What can I really say ? So maybe $12-18k Hopefully more. I’ve said it before, put it in the right markets and maybe some Princess tells her deep pockets hubby she just has to have it. The bidding on the 47k Brat came down to two guys who had deep pockets and wanted it super bad. That Brat sits in the showroom - up on a loft you can’t get to - in Branford CT up the road from me. Premier Subaru. He or they have a sweet museum like collection. Enjoy the sale !

Help needed Today in Grants Pass
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It’s over. You were either near Grants Pass and looked at this post no matter what was posted in the title because it’s one of us and that person needed assistance OR you weren’t and it didn’t matter to you. -
David Melcher is on the road up from CA and needs an EA81 drivers control arm for an 86 Hatchback Check the usual FB old Subaru groups and I guess message him there if you can help.

I’m going this year. Subafreak will be there. And probably a couple old names from this board. The Wicked Big Meet Lots of folks of all ages not just the hotrod would be rally racer kids. Next year I should have my 79 at the event. This year looking like the 94 is going. But you don’t need a vintage or limited production Subaru. Show up in whatever gets you there.

Sure , ten seconds of my life I’ll never get back …. ok all kidding aside , anybody find success with a wheel bearing using these? Our car doesn’t get used much lately so it’s been ok. The times I do/did drive it you can feel the mild grind but it’s not serious. I think Jesse is going to take my car in for a day of spa treatment later this month. I’m not opposed to getting an extractor. Just one more thing to do … getting older I’m more prone to pay for certain jobs.
