  1. One thing is check the carb butterfly - throttle for excessive play. Make sure the linkage on the passenger side of the carb is as it should be, both solenoids able to open as they should. But also sounds like the timing is off. Tough to find the mark on the flywheel but when you do get something to improve the timing marks. Sometimes poor carb set up makes us try things like having the distributor cranked way over to one side or the other but that never was the correct answer as I think you see. Pardon me if I'm off but I'm just thinking quickly of past experiences while awful tired. Good luck with it.
  2. Damn ! We had so many opportunities to grab tags and I think maybe I have one somewhere. Not sure which model but likely a wagon. you'd likely want/need a matching dash ID plate.... That could get tricky.
  3. Sorry I jumped in here late. Yes , nice ride and typical rust but grade - wise yours would likely be much better than ours up north etc. Before letting yourself overspend and take more time from your life than you need to , I recommend you stay put and use the computer before trekking out or ordering a car. That is unless you get a really solid one that bypasses all work you would be doing. It's your call , your budget, but just hope you don't go money pit with it. Enjoy it !!! I'll add more about parts etc later.
  4. We found some old stock going thru Charlie's things. Among them I have a pack of two of the rear side hinged window Latches. They are p/n 6622 16091 original part number.
  5. I managed to get all the seals needed to reseal these from my local dealer. If there are parts manuals online you can check any year 4wd from 75-79 and it'll be the same seals. If I can locate my receipt or my parts manual I'll post the number.
  6. Awesome!! I'll give you $3K for it.... Seriously , thanks !! We get to see yours when I'll never get to a resto like yours. Charlie would be out of his mind ecstatic!!!! No b/s he was a fanatic of those coupes since they were new. Enjoy the show. I truly apologize for not being able to dig parts out for you. There are a handful of glove box inserts at Charlie's place but Jason who has taken over has not replied to me. I'll be seeing him this weekend at Charlies memorial. And I do have a passenger front seat. Let me ask Earl if he still needs it as he was lined up for it. Otherwise I'll grab the insert for you. Probably have a dome light or shuffled it back to Charlie where it lies in one of several piles of my old parts.
  7. Historic Forum for you 81 Brat as long as it was made before 1981.
  8. Jesse do you have a stage one parts manual handy? I think you still have my 77-79 which might have some stage one 1977 drawings in there.
  9. Cut and pasted from his obituary. Charlie lived a simple and humble life on his terms. He was a gentle man of integrity, honesty, generosity and genuine kindness, with quick witted humor and insightful, intelligent perspectives on the world today. His positive attitude will always be an inspiration. Cars and motorcycles were Charlie's passion and his busy days were spent making friends wherever his mechanic work took him. Perhaps many "new friends" wouldn't remember his name, but they would remember his bright and sincere smile and charming facial expressions. Charlie was a brilliant mechanic, and many called Charlie a "car guru." Acquiring a "Charlie car" meant you had a friend and mechanic for life. Happy times for Charlie were spent visiting and working with his car enthusiast friends or rescuing a stranded person with car troubles. With strong hands and a patient, tenacious attitude, (and wearing his infamous cover-alls) Charlie could build or repair any piece of machinery. Charlie's family and friends are fortunate to have learned from him, laughed with him and loved him and we will all hold dear these treasured memories.
  10. Looked to be well restored from the drive by!!! Right around 9:50am where 70 dumps onto Main St. Caffeine and Carbs in New Canaan - make the ride it's worth it!
  11. We lost Charlie about 26 hours previous to this post. He went in Peace with his brother by his side. I'll be sure to add more later but just wanted to post. Charlie was one of a kind. Those of us who knew him will never forget him. I'm sure he's coasting in neutral saving gas on his destination. ???? Love ya, brother!!! ????
  12. Yeah , you're doing the Tour , right ?? Like stop by SOA in Cherry Hill. The whole east coast enthusiast scene will be there. Sadly our man Charlie hasn't gotten to see any pics and at this point probably won't be seeing your progress. Sorry for adding sad news to an otherwise fantastic effort and story. I'm glad Charlie at least contributed to your knowledge. Those early Coupes were damn special to him. The day I pulled the uncracked 73 dashboard out was just unreal. I must have leaped in the air for many minutes. And ONLY that guy would have that dash. The stories can just roll on. But that one was tops for me. Danny had the dash last I knew. You do know of course we're going to pull a ton of 72-3 Coupe stuff out as soon as you're done , right? Lol. Very seriously , Charlie is leaving a good amount of ff-1 thru '76 parts that another guy will be handling and I'll probably help him sort it. I know those bits you need are there among the piles.
  13. Martin , we think alike working our vintage vehicles. But I'm a bit surprised at the load you have and I'm not seeing any protection for trim and your rear slider. Are you just going to use it for a while then restore? Just curious. If a lot of us here waited 18 years and found the baby you did I think most of us would be very conservative with it. But power to you man! Enjoy!
  14. It took 18 years to find. I hope he enjoys it in its natural state forever if not at least for a long while.
  15. Above info true for Brats. For wagons you need a Stage II 1977 thru 1979 Stage I 1977 is the leftover body style from 74-76. You don't need that era. I'm willing to have you come up but I just have very little free time. We'll talk soon.
  16. Hoping our summer does get dragged out like the winter did. Bump for Mark
  17. Ok I have a mission. I'm going to extract a fresh shifter knob. I'm pretty sure there's one I can get easily ..... I hope.
  18. I'm so freakin bad at ever making time for storage I feel lots of guilt so please excuse this old chooch !! Lol Earl's seats keep haunting me. :/ I'm hoping I can contribute some way. Pray to the six stars and maybe a rear gasket will arize from the heap or door seals ....or ??? Jesse , I know you're busy too but think about maybe doing a day of ripping my storage up with me. like maybe when it's not 85 out.
