The "help me finish my coupe" thread
moosens replied to Datsunrides's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Ok I have a mission. I'm going to extract a fresh shifter knob. I'm pretty sure there's one I can get easily ..... I hope. -

I'm so freakin bad at ever making time for storage I feel lots of guilt so please excuse this old chooch !! Lol Earl's seats keep haunting me. :/ I'm hoping I can contribute some way. Pray to the six stars and maybe a rear gasket will arize from the heap or door seals ....or ??? Jesse , I know you're busy too but think about maybe doing a day of ripping my storage up with me. like maybe when it's not 85 out. -

Gosh if you mean me I'm awful sorry. Ctsuba is in horrible shape right now and I'm just totally unable to get any time at my storage. I'm currently working two gigs with the second being an hour and a half drive if no traffic. Very sorry. I'll truly make an effort asap As for ctsuba's stuff I'm not sure what will happen or how soon. -

Man I'm so frustrated that I just have zero time to go through my storage and to get to Charlies so I can review the parking brake routing for you. I do recall when removing them from a 76 GF two door automatic that they were woven through a cross member etc. I am pretty sure I have a new radiator. To not waste time though I think you could locate one through the Internet faster than waiting on me. Looking great. I'll do what I can for you. And I think I might have coupe rear quarter glass with hinges somewhere too. Anyway .... I really need to dig. -
1979 DL Wagon Value/Price
moosens replied to coopcampbell's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
If she sells you the car I'm hoping to buy back the wheels and bar or at least get some more dough. Those are fresh wheels out of new boxes , and the bar was also new. I spent much time and effort getting them and was maybe too sympathetic letting them go. Hopefully you get the whole deal and she rounds me up on our deal. Good luck to both of you. It's a pretty nice car! -

I should have the original fabric over rubber hoses. I'm not saying I can get them out real soon but I sure will try my tail off as I desperately need to go thru storage and send Earl his seats etc etc The guy who bought Danny's old stock should have a ton of them too. Our best source for info would be ctsuba - Charlie - but unfortunately he's really ill and weak. But if I do stop by and visit I'll ask him if he seems up to answering. He still has a 75 sitting around nearly complete if I can get my eyes to it. -
Help me identify and source a distributor cap
moosens replied to jnorion's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
FWD or 4WD ? This one you need I suspect to be FWD -
No sweat. Might want to check your timing marks on the flywheel and highlight them or enhance them somehow - rescribe them. Most of us have found they fade so much it is impossible to see the marks in revolution.

Lol And this reminds me of what I see in a certain motorcycle board..... Do try to make separate posts per component or other issue. Trying to get carb knowledge on a post that started as a general is limiting your "carb issue" audience you now desire. all good , just offering so you get max responses from Carb gurus and bangers for lack of a better term. Cheers !! Happy Fathers Day to you Dads !!!

Tough to set up that choke. Double, triple check the butterfly. Manual says something like 16 degrees off horizontal. I did a similar re-do like you not soaking parts and using cleaner , gas , and canned air in a truly backyard effort. But I took my time etc like I can see you did. Now my carb isn't horrible but I can see where I needed to put more effort. Next time I'm soaking everything and finding new jets too. I think you are going to be ok with just tweaking and probably don't have to take it out and soak it to at least make it a strong runner again. No carbs in that distributor stock from Danny ? Parts ? Kits ?

Teased !! Needless to say ...... Sexy -
I've seen plenty of those side bars and yes they are for the tow bar option.
-
Let's get serious sometime soon , eh ??
-
djcommie , I think. And Maybe another guy has some NOS too - gopherbroke - again I'm not positive but one of those guys bought Danny's old stock which was originally stored leftovers of the Mid-Atlantic distributor for SOA.

I gotta see the video of this!!! B movie in the making !!! Killer Mopeds From Outerspace !!! -
Personally I'd flip the 80's wheels to someone who can use them and score a set of flat spokes that were correct for that gen. Sure you can grind or add spacers etc.... Parking brake cables you need ? The guy who has Danny's old stock should have them new.

And if you come across another rear bumper that looks decent let me know , please.
-
A sweet find for sure ! Paid $350 for mine around spring 2000 I think it was. Still going strong ! See that rounded rear bumper with the stubby end caps? They are particular to the stage 2 1977 4wd wagon and the 78 4wd wagon as well. Not BRATs. Come 1979 they all get the squared type.

Did you ask for a franchise owner or regional manager and explain and ask if video is available to review? Time gone by now. They're going to tell you they have a three week loop or ??? Etc etc etc Doubt they caught the coin on camera but it might show the employee reaching into the center console which they don't need to do during the course of an oil change. Good luck ! I'm in Bridgeport but do oil changes to full engine swaps generally in Milford. Awful busy but if you care to maybe we can synch up when I'm doing my work. You can pull alongside and we'll have you're oil changed , filter , whatever little things done , and all topped off real easy. Storage / workspace off exit 35 in Milford just off the exit - real easy. I have in stock Subaru oil filters and crush rings I change both every oil change. But synching up with me might mean real early on a Saturday or Sunday. Have a nice weekend !! Paul

First Start Up Since 1999, What Do?
moosens replied to Subasaurus's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Check for mice in the air box , etc. Drain the old oil and while plug is out hand crank as mentioned above. Put in 5w 30. Good regular oil is fine , not going to debate synthetic at this time. You're just getting into this and the price is excellent. Lots of us have spare engines and you can still score one local if you search. But no worries like that. You're enine is probably fine and you're issue will be something like distributor off or bad voltage regulator or alternator etc. Bring it home ! The rest will happen. You'll be happy real soon. -
Stripped Intake Manifold Studs
moosens replied to Sapper 157's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Lots of us have the old spare box of nuts and bolts etc. from our parted Subarus. I'll check mine later today for you. But likely you'll be heli-coiling those holes. Heli coils are great. But since this is regular maintenance for you I suggest to use a Time-cert or equivalent. Then you can simply remove the bolt and re-insert it plenty often like it was new.
