Road Trip Prep
Cuba mentioned " length of wire" , YES , thanks for posting that. Have alligator clips on the ends if possible. Those unknowing , you may have to one day run a jumper from the battery positive to your fuel pump to get home etc. Great simple addition you'll be ever thankful for having on that day.

29 Years as a Tech in the same location 10-20-1986 - 04-07-2015
Best of luck ! I'm sure there are too many ideas in your mind right now but of course I'm going to offer the thought/suggestion that single bay rentals in existing shops are out there. Maybe do that for a short stretch while you are afforded some in between time to hunt out offers. Guys like you will have plenty of work from word of mouth. And if possible throw a bone to your old service writer.

1970's subaru NOS parts
Between the various folks with those rear panels (valance ?) I'm almost certain one of us has at least one for the early Coupes. I know I sent Danny on his way with some to match up.

The Carlisle Show for East Coast etc
Time for the annual Import / Kit-Replicar Show in Carlisle PA For those who've been around here you know the deal. To the newer folks here: We once built up a good group but for the last several years next to nobody goes anymore. But don't be discouraged if you think you'd like to go and it's not a gouge in your wallet or schedule then do experience it once at least. These days it's just not as old school as it used to be. But there's always plenty cool European and Asian beauties. These Carlisle events are actually billed as National events but who's kidding who when it comes to Subarus. Please post if you are going and just maybe it'll work into some plans of mine. And if you are near NYC or western CT etc do check out Caffeine and Carburetors! You'll freak , trust me. Enjoy your summer northern hemisphere!!! Cheers!

Caffeine and Carbs New Canaan CT April 19 Subday Sunday
Subarus needed ! You've heard of others but this one is top dog. Real easy to get to. Go early , leave early 8:00-9:30 and you've seen millions of dollars worth of cars , and maybe an old Subaru too. I'll add a link later but it'll take you two seconds if you search it. Hoping Doc Jim brings his 360 , would be nice to not be the only guy with an old Subaru taking ALL the complements. Look for my 78 wagon likely parked in the central commuter lot or near Pine St. You can't beat what these rich folks break out but you can show lot of qualities their money can't and plenty of folks realize that. Everyone says similar lines like " you know that'll run forever" .... No Cheet !!

Clutch cable failure
That sling , many of which are leather , has a spring that hooks from it to a small sheet metal piece atop the transmission. The mid point assistance makes a huge difference in tension. I've tried to use a leather shoelace in place of the spring but instead ran it up to a spot I could tie off to but that was not good enough. The rubber piece with the washer is the grommet for the firewall and you want to tuck that washer into the rubber - you'll see when you get up close to it. Yes , these are a pain. Check the pedal box for breaks in the side wall caused from excessive pressure we all tend to apply in hopes of shifting near normal.

1979 Brat clutch pedal hinge worn out
Definite squeak will result in definite problem. Routing isn't too difficult but make sure anyways and that hanger spring with the sling over the cable is key - as I've witnessed on my 78. There is a sheetmetal piece that should be atop the bell housing area more towards the firewall. There's a spot for that spring to hang on. Anything you can do will help over time. When not right we go thru cables in like 15k.

Frozen Tow Meet - PA Yard run - Rt.61 up to Harry's Hazelton
Now has become the Muddy Boot meet. Lol So yeah I'll be looking for any reports from Harry's Hazelton or other locations south or east. And the Rt.61 run too. Looking to head down as early as next weekend but maybe the following weekend or the one after. I have red 1997 Legacy Wagon parts if anyone in eastern PA or on my route thru NY and NJ needs.

From Manual Windows to Power Windows - How to on a 1998 Legacy Wagon?
moosens replied to johnnyispy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTracks should be the same if you want to swap the electrical guts out and use your old hand crank. I'll be doing the opposite soon - swapping on a door from a Brighton (hand crank) to electic.

Heater core
Table to open the unit on. Patience. Please post what you do since I'm next in line to do one. 80's cars are easier. These you remove the whole box. Good luck. Plastic can be brittle ! Go easy.

My 73' Coupe Restoration
Thanks for such great updates. Forsee any help needed in a part or two? Earl is getting a nice coupe front seat from me , but it's still here Most everything coupe I had went to Danny who the grapevine tells me has sold off his stock to another guy here in Illinois. So I'm pretty sure all his / my old coupe stuff is with the new guy. Anything left coupe you are welcome to. I think there is one NOS rear quarter inside panel that was supposed to get to Danny. Some double items I kept : steering column complete , numerous small items , and ctsuba has lots of loose parts from 72-3.

Frozen Tow Meet - PA Yard run - Rt.61 up to Harry's Hazelton
Don't get too excited now!! Scored well on a Craigslist lot so my trip will be as quick as possible. Check my post in Part FS for 97 Legacy wagon goodies I could possibly bring down. Still on the hunt for a low mile or even decent rebuildable Front Wheel Drive 5spd manual.

Frozen Tow Meet - PA Yard run - Rt.61 up to Harry's Hazelton
Well that was supposed to be frozen toe , but anyways , I'm still in for my winter run. Dead of winter passes next week. Days are will be warmer thereafter. Mud follows. You saved that pair of old boots for this occasion. Those thermal underwear you refuse to donate same deal. Woolen socks have a three week season - now .... Ok I'll beat this bush once more before I head down. Will be asking for reports from Harrys Hazelton and Rt.61 area. And going to arrange to meet up with hogweed - USMB member. Cheers !

EA71 Water Pump Installation
Yes , spray / soak the bolts as best as you can even two or three times with hours in between. Turn them IN just 1/16 of a turn , then back out an 1/8 turn , back in , spray again and then back n forth some when removing them. Old school folks like us already have the EZ out and heli-coils , timeserts , drill and tap , etc. Patience saves frustrations and time. Those bolts and should you ever do the intake manifold same deal even more delicate because they sit vertical. Very thin shafts and weak threads by now. Can't caution enough.

Another page of Subarubicon photos added
That was a proud moment felt vicariously by folks around the globe who only wish they could have built what they did and run where they did. Applause !!! A whole decade from then .... lol
