Hi Josh, Yes there are screws underneath the unit. I got the unit loose and the cable is the only thing that is dragging the unit. Now I have to figure out how to access one of the ends of the cable preferably without taking out all the plastics under dashboard... As a matter of fact all the buttons are working right now but if I go the lazy way and put it back it might not work just when I need it in the cold rain... Stan

Subaru Legacy 1990 The vent system (cabin fresh air supply) usually works well. But sometimes when I push the “Vent” button I hear a sound of a vent somewhere but NO air comes out of the grilles. If I drive for a while with the “Vent” button on (green on the attached photo) at some point air starts blowing out of the grilles. What could be the reason? How can I repair it? Thanks.

Thank you Turbone, nipper, it helps, to narrow the problem. that is right the hill holder works on front wheels. brake fluid was changed when I changed the callipers (I hope but I am not sure) 1 year ago with second hand ones bought on Subaru forum. I thought I may check the cable - the car is old and there might be rust dirt to prevent move of cable... - proportioning valve is having issues. Obviously I have to check it. The thing is if I do NOT use hill holder I don’t have problems. When I use the hill holder the brakes remain blocked (don’t go back to normal). Yes it is probably not a hill holder problem. I am trying to figure out what it could be beside the hill holder – something doesn’t go back to normal. For now we have 3 possible causes 1. brake fluid – to change with new one 2. proportioning valve 3. cable for the hill holder is not moving freely – to oil is that correct thanks stan -
I got this problem recently and don’t know what to do. The dealership mechanic says everything is OK, but it is NOT and is dangerous. My car - Subaru Legacy 1990 LS FWD Sport 2.2 Standard S/W First time my breaks blocked was when I stopped at an intersection (street light) on a little slope back with 3 passengers in the car. I use the hill holder (it is a nice feature) and it was working well for the last 2 years. Now when I tried to start going at green light my car was blocked. I pushed the gas and managed to move out of the intersection somehow and stopped. The wheels were hot. I left the car for and hour and then everything was fine and running as usual. It happened again a week later. Then I went to the dealership / mechanic they checked the hill holder and concluded that there is no reason for this to happen and offered me to switch off the hill holder but I preferred to have it. It happened last night again. I noticed that now only front left hand wheel and rare right hand wheel were hot. I appreciate any suggestions. Should I change the brake cylinders or the liquid or something else. Thanks Stan

I’ve got a problem in the rear wheel on driver site of my Subaru Legacy 1990 LS FWD Sport 2.2 Standard S/W. Here is the story: I changed my clutch recently (installed a new one at a licensed workshop) a month ago. When I was leaving the shop (end of the day) I noticed that my car was almost blocked when I use a semi clutch to turn for example (had no time to back to the shop and I thought my feeling might be wrong. It might just need some time for parts to adjust).Also I noticed the clutch pedal is too “deep” while I expected the pedal movement to be less with the new clutch. Two weeks later my car blocked again up on a steep slope – I had to maneuver a little bit back between two cars and then I couldn’t go forward at the Green signal. I had to restart the engine and managed to move forward. A week ago on my way home I suddenly heard very loud scraping sound metal to metal at rear right left hand side (behind driver).This sound appears time to time. I noticed the sound appears when I touch the clutch pedal or the brake pedal slightly. If I push the brake to the full sound disappears. Two nights ago I got dash board control panel parking break light ON all the time I was driving. Yesterday the light went off and it is on again today (doesn’t turn off). I wonder if it has to do with the clutch replacement. If so I could go back to the same shop and ask to adjust whatever needs (I have a warranty)… I have a feeling they do not understand how the special Subaru feature works that holds the cal on a hill when you push the clutch… Thanks for your thoughts. My Subaru Legacy 1990 LS FWD Sport 2.2 Standard S/W left hand front (passenger) door stays locked all the time (it used to work two weeks ago). Electronic unlock system seems to work but doesn't stay in unlocked position. When I put the key in the lock it could not turn. The only key that works is the one on the driver’s door. Any advice or suggestion how to repair the front passenger door are appreciated. Thanks, Stan

Thank u guys! I will try removing the radio this weekend. The problem might be there because the radio has been changed... other connections are fine because the light (green ring around lither) is OK. One question though: subbie94, do you remember which cable is it when I open the radio... Well I have to test them... I guess thanks again

The lighter of my Subaru Legacy 1990 has been disconnected for some reason. I want to repair and get it working (I need it for my Bluetooth). Haynes Subaru Manual doesn’t say a word about the lighter. My questions are: Where to start? Where it was connected originally? Was it all times on connection or only when the key is in? Any thoughts and suggestions are highly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Stan
