help! electric fan won't come on!
Flow replied to bratgirl's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
In your case you will want to investigate the thermosensor located in the manifold. You might also want to start a seperate thread if you have furthur problems. As Edrach said, your problem is somewhat related but is confusing to Bratgirls seperate issue. Good luck! -
help! electric fan won't come on!
Flow replied to bratgirl's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So the fan did not run when you grounded the yellow wire? If it didn't, your grounds and fuses are ok, and the thermoswitch is new then I would suspect the relay. '83 FSM says its behind the pass. side strut tower. I can't double check that on my car right now tho. I would pull a Junk yard relay and swap it out and see what happens. Hope this helps, Good Luck! -

If you pull the yellow wire off of the thermoswitch on the radiator and ground it, does the fan come on? -
I just got back from a 2 month visit to Germany. You just gotta love the Autobahn experience. And the cars are built for it too. I drove the new BMW 740i. Incredible! Had it up to 240 Km/hr! The only thing I don't like about Germany are all the laws and regulations. It states right on your registration what tires sizes the German government will allow on the car. That would make the majority of American boardmembers here outlaws. That and the price of fuel. Man, I thought 2$ a gallon was rediculous, try double that. Also you can get a speeding ticket on the autobahn, ask me how I know:banghead: . No wonder my girl was yelling "SLOW DOWN!"

I'm not familiar with your car so I've no clue as to it's worth but be wary of scams. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6823&highlight=scam

Hi All!! First post, and I need some help!
Flow replied to SteveF101's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Welcome to the board. The EA-82 (your engine) is notorious for oil leaks. It is common for them to leak oil from the valve cover gaskets, cam seals, front and rear main seals and oil pan gasket. Personally I've learned to live with the leaks until I do some other work in the area. For example a clutch job automatically gets a rear main and oil pan gasket because they are easily accessible while the engine is out of the car. Valve cover gaskets are a great place to start. Only takes 5 minutes a side. Just be careful when you torque them back down. Subaru says only like 4 ft.-lbs. You’re working with aluminum now also. It is very easy to strip threads. Good luck. -
Fuel filter possibly. It's something to try first before you go swapping pumps. Good luck.

86 to 88 engine/trans swap/rebuild question
Flow replied to pwoens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes, you can rebuild the block out of the '86 and stuff it into the '88. You have to use your turbo heads as they are different from the carb'd heads. The carb'd block has a higher compression ratio than the turbo block so there are some things to think about. Read about some of them here and use the search tool to find out more. You can also swap trannys but you will need to swap the rear diffs out as well. Again different ratios. Along with the front axels (different spline count) and also interior peices to acommodate the d/r shifter. You can download some of the ea-82 Factory Service Manual. It's the best resource for our cars, along with the USMB of course. Remember, the search tool is your friend. Good luck. -
Brat rear slider interchangability
Flow replied to Flow's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So will it fit, and not leak? I'm not concerned that my brat will no longer have the "correct" rear slider. I just want a peice of glass behind my head instead of the peice of plexi that is there now. -
When to change manual tranny oil
Flow replied to goatman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
'83 FSM says 30,000 miles for replacement. That's with a conventional gear oil tho. Redline is a synthetic and should be good well beyond the 30,000mi mark let alone 20,000mi. I'd leave it in. -

Any chance the rear sliding window from a gen1 brat will fit a gen2?
