OK talking about an EA-82 4x4 Wagon. I bought 2 new struts but have only replaced the drivers side as of now because it needed the attention. Put it all back together and buzzed the new nyloc nut onto the strut shaft to attach it to the strut top. The nylon grabbed the threads and just turns the shaft with out tightening up. I've got about 1/8th inch gaposis which makes a terrible racket while driving. I don't want to chew up the shaft with vice grips and I don't have a strap wrench to keep it from spining while I torque it down. I didn't notice any flat spots for a wrench and the mud gaurd is pretty much in the way to keep anything from being easy. Should I crank up the adjusters? Lube the nyloc nut? Looking for the obvious answer that isn't so obvious to me or any suggestions. Thanks.

special oil pump shaft seal? FOUND
Flow replied to Snowman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey Snowman, I think what you are looking for is on this site: http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~camncath/ea82_hydraulic_lifter_fix.htm "You can use a shallower seal and avoid the grooved section. The seal to use is a NOK AH0816E, which is identical in every aspect of the original seal but is 2mm shallower." This is a board member from Australia so I have no clue if the part number is valid on this side of the world. -
Anyone have the link to the online chiltons manual? Mine quit working. Thanks.

So is this block junk or can I squeeze another couple hundred thousand out of it? Thanks.

Split my block and found some small spots of discoloration on one of the main journals. What are these?(It's not grease) Something to worry about? Please don't say it involves milling. Thanks

It took quite a bit of force when I did it. In fact it was a real pain in the a$$. I ended up making a tool for the job. Turn the piston in far enough to get your new pads on, however many rotations that takes, then line up the piston notches with those on the pad. This is going on the theory you have a properly functioning caliper. Also if your brake lines are still attached to the caliper when you do this you will displace a lot of fluid back into the reservoir. I used a turkey baster to keep it from over flowing. Check out these search results for the tool, I like the socket idea myself. http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=364&highlight=socket+brakes

I'm about to take on this little project myself. What's the advantage of the ATF besides its cleaning properties? -
Help, need Rod and main bearing source
Flow replied to Flow's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for the input snowman but they are back ordered also. I'm gonna call beck-arnley tomorrow and get the skinny on who makes their bearings. If they are indeed NDC I will order them from from one of the local parts places. -
Help, need Rod and main bearing source
Flow replied to Flow's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Partsamerica.com has the same part numbers but 23$ for rods and 31$ for mains. Still can't get them this week tho. I was hoping someone might have an immediate source. I've been told that beck-arnley repackages NDC bearings which are OEM. Anybody else know this to be true? -
Had my crank ground 10/10. Now I am having a heck of a time finding a source for oem rod and main bearings. Even the dealer has to wait 2 to 3 weeks to get them from Japan. I would really like to go with oem bearings but cant wait any longer to get the Soob back together. Anybody have some secret sources or good experiences with aftermarket bearings that might be more available? CCR is even having a tough time getting them. Thanks.

How many amps does the stock fan pull
Flow replied to Flow's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Many thanks fellas -
I mounted a second stock electric fan on my radiator today. Need to give it some juice so I'd like to know how many amps the fan pulls for sizing a relay. Anybody in the know? Thanks.

Turbo Clutch in 2 a Non-Turbo 4x4?
Flow replied to Flow's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That's exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks for the replies. -
Just picked up an OEM quality clutch for a 4x4 Turbo car for cheap. Will this bolt in to my Non-Turbo 4x4 GL? If it does fit will the pedal feel noticably stiffer? Talking about an EA-82 D/R 4x4 here. Thanks.

I bought the Redline kit (k731 for 330$) from carbs unlimited in Fife, Wa. As GD said the instructions are useless, the adapter plates don't fit well (they barely cover the coolant hole) and bottom plate bolts were too long. I had to buy shorter ones as well as nuts and washers for the threaded stock they are passing off as carb studs, also too long IMO. There has also been air filter clearance issues on non-lifted cars. If I had my 330$ back I would buy the weber, hardware and make my own adapter plates. Instructions here: http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~camncath/weber_to_subaru.htm My experience was with an EA-82 manifold.

helicoil and valve cover leaks
Flow replied to Beowulfs_Ghost's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm about to helicoil my passenger side as well because of the same problem. Have a few questions and am hoping for a few pointers. --> Is Helicoil better than permacoil? Which size kit do I need and how much can I expect to pay? Did you have any problems drilling out the top right threads? Looks like there is a little less material surrounding it to make room for the cam carrier bolt head. Were you happy with the results? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, -

I bought a aftermarket kit from shucks for 15$ I think. 2 o-rings (ones called a micky mouse because of the way it looks) and the shaft seal. Pkgd by Beck/Arney-- part # 039-6320 Dusty 86 4x4 wagon
