  1. Don't know how many amps a radio needs to play but had a thought maybe the problem is upstream from the radio. Poor ground? Broken power wire? Just too much resistance somewhere?
  2. The next time the engine quits after that 30" run, check how warm the coil is. If the coil is hot to the touch, my guess is you are using the wrong type coil. Coils sort of come in 2 types: high and low impedance. Really can't be swapped. Position of the coil has nothing to do with the problem. As an aside, the coil bracket has to be tightly bolted to the car body as it serves as a ground.
  3. Checked the specs on Subaru 101 and it looks like if you got the cold weather package the amp was not an option. Could have one or the other but not both.
  4. Sounds like an amp problem to me. Thinking all the LL Bean models came with an amp. If the radio is a McIntosh, then there is for sure an amp somewhere.
  5. To me, the first photo is the wrong way and the second the correct. Flop the gasket and see how it works.
  6. The guide is junk for no other reason than that bent valve moving up and down in it has wallowed it out. Just take the head to a machine shop and have a new guide pressed in.
  7. Probably wrong but always thought the turbo versions came with a 3.70 ratio.
  8. Are you 100% sure you installed the distributor correctly? One tooth off is enough for the engine not to run.
  9. Also my favorite color for the wagon. Saw one that color in Ohio many years ago but only the one. Subaru really should bring that color back.
  10. My guess is the airflow meter. Had the same symptom when the one on my wagon failed. Replaced it with a $5 used one 4 years ago and still running strong.
  11. Bet the only way involves pulling the instrument panel. Remember to disconnect the battery...that airbag thing.
  12. The entire bracket has to be grounded for the part in question to work. No grounded bracket=no spark.
  13. Any chance you could test the fuel pressure going up that hill? Dropping cylinders and lack of power under load suggests to me either a weak ignition or low fuel flow.
  14. Run from this "deal". You are very close to receiving the hosing of your life. Edit: Too late. Just reread original post and see you now own this car.
  15. Left side of vehicle is in fact the driver's side. Left/right referenced from the driver's position.
