  1. I would be interested, I going to be out of town on the weekend of the 20th but after that I'm good.
  2. well I did some poking around my light and I think i found at least part of my problem. there was a wire spliced into one of the break light wires(I don't know if it was ground or power...) that was connected to.... Nothing! it was just dangling there with exposed wire on the end. So i removed that and electrical taped over the hole in the old wire and the Stop Lamp light went out! sort of... So now the problem is that it is off most of the time and it comes on occasionaly relating to my break pedle, not car motion any more. now I figure I just need a new bulb for one of my break lights.
  3. I did a search on this and came up with some ideas that I'm going to try this weekend but I figured I might be able to get better direction by posting my complete symptoms. Ok, since I have owned the car the stop lamp light has been on. I should say though that the first thing I did when I got the car was change a tail light because it had a busted one. I replaced it with one from a JY before I ever turned the car on so I don't know if the light was on before. here's the thing though, just starting recently sometimes (durring hard breaking, going swiftly around corners, going over bumps, etc) the light will turn off, and sometimes stay of for a while. Does anybody know what this would be? something loose and creating ground when it gets bumped or something? I'm an complete electrical newbie so I'm clueless. The vehicle: 86 GL wagon.
  4. Hey guys, I need some help reading stored codes off of my ECM. I have an 86 GL wagon, carbed, and the ECS light comes on virtually every time I drive for more than about 10-15 minutes. Sometimes it comes on and stays on for the duration of the drive. Sometimes it comes on and goes off again. And, my personal favorite, sometimes it goes on and off with changes in throttle position. I did a search and read all of the information here on the site about reading codes and I think I have a fair idea of how it works. So far, all I've been able to get the light to flash is a 73, which my Haynes manual tells me is a model designation, California 86 4wd etc. The green (test mode?) connectors are right there at the ECM but I don't know where the read memory connectors are, or what they look like. In one post I found searching (I can't remember which thread, sorry) it said that you are in test mode if your fuel pump cycles and some solenoid under the hood clicks away when you turn the car to "ON". Well, mine does that but the green connectors are unconnected.... so maybe they are the read memory connectors and I can't find the test mode ones??
  5. I have an 86 GL Wagon, Carbed. The engine that's in it is one that I took from a friends wrecked 87 Hatch. The she had the engine replaced about 10,000 miles previously with a rebuilt, I didn't get any specifics on it, but It looks to be in amazing shape, unbelievably clean and it runs great. The only thing I noticed wrong with the engine was some deposits arround the water pump. Now I'm slowly leaking coolent, and I figure thats the problem. Well, to make a long story short, I'm going to go in and replace the water pump this weekend and I want to know what else you guys think I should replace. The hitch is that it's my only car and so once I start taking things apart I can't run to the auto parts store until it's running again so I would like to know what is likely to need replacing, if something doesn't need replacing than that's cool I can return it when I'm done. I almost forgot, when I first got the engine into my car it was doing some of the Tick Of Death but it seamed to get over that after I had driven it about 100 miles? if that changes anything now you know.
