Hi all -- I have 290K on my transmission and I've been pretty faithful in keeping up my maintenance, just last week had it serviced and now suddenly I have an error. It came up as a code for the torque converter clutch solenoid. Hubby took it in and didn't get the code number, but the tech said that it was in the valve body. Could a piece of dirt from the flush cause the solenoid to stick? We plan on taking it in to have it diagnosed, I've read that a transmission replacement may be an option at this point. Thanks

I have a 2005 Legacy(not GT) with 263K miles on it. Recently, as I am driving the cool air turns warm, at times, I can hit the button off/on and that will make it work again; other times, if I turn off the fan completely and back on that might work. Over the weekend, if I opened the window while it was blowing warm it, it would start to blow cold air (coincidence?) Any ideas for solutions?? I just had a new moter put in 15K ago (late April) the A/C was evacuated and recharged at that time. Checked all connections under the hood, when it does blow it blows ICE COLD, so it's not low on freon. Is their an ambient temp sensor? or their any control modules? thanks!

unsure of what h4 or h6 means....the car is ok, would have preferred a new car, but prefer no car payments..so it's a catch 22 ya know? i had been burning or losing oil for awhile and i stayed on top of it about a year ago i have my valve cover gaskets and some other items done to help with that... when i bought this car i was told from so many folks how long they last...maybe i will treat my new "used" engine like crap and i will get 400K!

bit the dust last week at 256K miles...connecting rod. I've chosen to get a used engine with 60K on it for $2800...so disappointed. I have done all the maintenance on this car, used Amsoil and Mobil 1 synthetic oil religiously and had this happen. It was still cheaper than a car payment, so it's in the shop for a week and the motor comes with a 90 day warranty....i'm bumming i know other subaru owners who literally ABUSE their cars, lack of maintenance (only when the car stops running or upon occassion some regular maintenance but not often) and they have 300K!

Hubby changed the PCV valve tonight. It was on the passenger side of the engine near the rear, under the coil pack. Used a 3/4" deep socket and extension and it came right out. Be careful with the hose, lube it before you stick it back on so you don't crack it. With 236K on the car, the valve was still seating but very gummed up. Hope that helps US and someone else with the same trouble!! Take care guys, thanks for the help.

Hey gang -- you've always been so helpful in the past, hope you might be able to help me again I have an 05 Legacy (not GT) and it's got 235K on it...I've had the head gaskets recently replaced and all the hoses, etc...I've maintained this car to the fullest! I am using Mobil 1 Ext Perf oil and somewhere I am seriously losing oil! Took it in to my shop where I've always had my work done (where hubby previously worked) and there is no sign of any leakage. I've started a log to see how often I need to add oil so I am not sure at what rate I am losing it, but it seems to be about a quart every 2 weeks or so (I'm driving about 500-600 miles a week), best estimate. Any suggestions? As you know that oil isn't cheap! and i'd really like to find out what the problem is and I know if anyone would know it would be you guys! Thanks in advance.:-\

Thanks for the info! This is a place where my husband worked as a mechanic until he got into construction. If my husband had access to a bay, he'd be doing the work himself!! This was a discounted rate, they were actually doing this for another subaru and quote $1800 so $1400 was our discount. My husband has already done the timing belt, thanks for the input on the cam seals/oil pump we will do them too. I hope to get another 200K outta this motor...what do ya think my chances are??

Hi everyone...I have a Legacy i with 222,450 miles on it, it's an 04 and a good car. I've been losing oil and hubby says it's from the head gaskets. I am using Mobil 1 Extended Oil at about $8.50 a quart and it gives me great mileage between oil changes, but is too costly to keep adding at about a quart every 3 weeks or so! So, I'm about to bite the bullet and get the head gaskets changed for a total of about $1400. Does anyone have anything that might be helpful for me to know before I put my car in the shop?? Anyone else had to do this yet? What are your thoughts on my cars life expectancy after I drop this $1400 in it?? LOL... I might add that it's been WELL maintained and all the miles are highway.
