  1. Does anyone know what year the first Legacy body switched to a different body style? I am picking up an early Legacy and there is a 94(?) in a junkyard near here. The car I am buying needs a few items that are rusted that on the junkyard car are real nice. Are the drivetrain and exhaust exchangeable also? Ya never know when you might need a spare part..... Thanks all!
  2. I'm going to do mine in the spring also mainly to replace a crank seal that is dripping oil all over the place. I was going to pull the motor also. Guess I really don't have to?????
  3. I have a chance to buy an 89 Legacy wagon for a good price. The bad is the hatch is rotted out. I found one in a junk yard but it is from a 94. Are these lids the same? Looks like they are but just want to make sure. Thanks, Mark
  4. I will have to come look you all up, I'm out there every year with the Fiero group. If you see a BRIGHT yellow Fiero that looks something like a 355 Ferrari that is me. I always camp on the grounds Friday night.
  5. Phone 610-837-6411. The garage is between Bath and Klecknersville. I can't remember the street name.
  6. I think you are talking about Weddys Garage in Bath PA. Great people to deal with. Tons of Subarus on the property. Talk to Craig. He also sells over the internet.
  7. Exactlly how mine is. Maybe a longer warm up time would be in order? Just had the car tuned, but I will have the timing checked again.
  8. Now that the Loyale is running much better I thought I would clear up some of the little things that are going on. The bog is just when I pull out of the driveway at low speed. Ya have to mash the throttle to get the car moving. After a few moments when the RPMs build the bog goes away. What do you all think? TPS? Little bugger won't throw a code. Thanks, Mark
  9. Ok everyone I found out what the problem was. A blown fuse! I noticed the dome light was not on when the door was opened and started looking. The fuse labled ROOM was blown. Replaced the fuse and the shifter works fine now. Foot on brake, push button on shifter and shift. Done Deal. No more haveing to push the interlock button.
  10. I need to push the button everytime iI move the shifter from Park to Reverse. Once it has moved from Park the shifter can move to any gear. So I guess that I just can't step on the brake and move the shifter???? Edit. The button that I am talking about is the one in the console, not on the shifter itself.
  11. The car is a 91 Loyale and the button is to release the shifter when shifted from park to another gear. I gather that when you step on the brake the shifter is supposed to move. Mine I have to push this button everytime to move the shifter. Is this normal?? Is there an adjustment that needs to be made to fix this?? How about disconecting it completly?? Thanks, Mark EDit. I guess this is called the shifter interlock button????
  12. The light is out, finnally!!! Tonights project, clean the throttle body and get it emmisions and safety inspected.
  13. Just bought my first Loyale for $800.00 with 93K on it. True it is not as fast as I would like it, but where we live here near the Poconos in PA climbing the mountains in the snow is more important. When I buy the next I think I will get a 5 speed instead of the auto.
  14. Thanks hooziewhatsit!! I will check all that you mention this morning as I go to work and let everyone know.
  15. I will introduce myself to everyone as a Subaru Newbie. Well almost, I did have an 83? 4 wheel drive wagon with a 1600 cc in it a few years ago. Loved that car, it went everywhere and then some. The motor blew and 4 hours and about $150.00 later I had another in it. I sold the car a year after I bought it for more than I paid for it. The car I have now is a 91 Loyale 4 wheel drive wagon with the 1800 cc and an auto trans. The problem I am having with the car is that there have been too many non Subaru mechanics working on this car thinking that they know everything about it. The deceased owner of the car had timing belts put in the car in 2004, then drove the car with one of the belts 180 degrees out of time. I had that repaired when I got the car 2 months ago. At that time the check engine light was on. The mech. said he pulled a misfire code out of the ecu. The code I pulled was for an EGR selinoid which I replaced and now the light is not on solid, just flashes all the time. The code I think I am pulling is 16. I see by the list of codes there is not a 16 code for 91 cars. Since there have been so many people working on this car also I am not sure if the diagnostic connectors are connected or not. The articles I have read said it is a green connector under the steering wheel. I looked and the only green connector I see is already connected. It is a 4 wire plug with a white wire, black wire, yellow wire, and a red with white stripe. Is this correct?? Should this be connected all the time?? To clear the codes there is a black plug to be connected. All the black plugs under the steering wheel are already connected. So I am not sure which one this is. I am sure this is NOT to be connected all the time. I hate to run this car to the dealership to get everything straightened out when I know I can do this myself. After all, my other cars are Pontiac Fieros. Sorry for the long message, hope someone can help me out. Mark
