Rock Auto closeout, EA81 cars
somick replied to Frank B's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would be careful with rockauto. Their database for Hondas is not correct! Who knows what they have for EA81... Sam -
In other words: when looking at the engine from the front, rotate crankshaft clockwise and you will see three lines. It is abot three-four inches to the left. The middle line is your timing mark. <br><br>Good luck,<br>Sam
-
I would try to read codes if there are any stored in the ECU. In case you do not know how to do it: Plug in the green connectors, open the driver side knee bolster, turn the key to ON (engine not running). See if a little light on the ECU blinks. Sam
-
I guess you are right. The good injector would put thrugh only so much fuel. You may have a bad O-ring or something. Sam
-
In my 92 Loyale the diagnostic connector (the green one) is located under the hood. Near the fuel filter (driver side). This is the only one that will make the fuel pump cycle on and off. Make sure it is unplugged. Sam

Adjustable headrests--how to remove knob?
somick replied to starkiller's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If I sit in the rear seat of my Loyale I can see a tiny hole in the cover. Try to push in the wire spring and pull the cover up. I hope this helps, Sam -
Problem with electric windows in my 85 GL-10
somick replied to Subieguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
While you took the panels off take the switches apart and clean up the contacts. That realy helps. Especially the master switch. Good luck, Sam -
See if that helps you: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=26603

My GOD! What a wonderful trick. It took me only THREE hours to separate mine with a two jaw puller. Thank you, mtnman38

Inspired by this post I called the dealer parts department. Spent more than 30 minutes on the phone with them and quit. They could not find a PCV valve on their diagram. I still wanted to get a new valve so I went to Kragen and bought one for $4.00: Fram - FV277. What did I get? Heavy pinning. Very poor acceleration. It felt like draging brakes with no power at all. So, now I am back to the old valve with another lesson learned: STAY AWAY FROM FRAM PRODUCTS. Sam

i need help with my 1988 gl wagon
somick replied to silverracerkh2005's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You can rent compression tester at Autozone. Free. You must replace O2 sensor. I bet this is your main problem! Once again, rent oxygen sensor tool from Autozone for free and replace the sensor. The sensor is something about 22 dollars. I have the cheapest one from Bosch. This week end I passed smog with no problems! Check engine light usualy comes on for PURGE CONTROL SOLENOID or EGR SOLENOID. It could also contribute to your probems. Read the codes. You are on the right track! Do not be discouraged by bad people=mechanics! Good luck! Sam -
easiest way to remove clutch fan EA82
somick replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
On my 92 Loyale it is size 22 - the same wrench that I use for the crank shaft nut. -
I hope this will help: http://science.howstuffworks.com/bearing3.htm When you remove the drum you will see the outer race sitting in it. It has to be removed and replaced with a new one (the one that comes with the new bearing). The new bearing consists of three parts: outer race (goes inside the drum) balls, and inner race. Here you have another link. You will be able to see how it looks: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/racatalog.php And as far as I remember you will need two sets of bearngs: inner and outer. As soon as you remove the drum you will see what I am taling about. Sam
-
As far as I remember Haynes manual recomends it to pressed at a machine shop, but I have done myself without any problems. Tap it gently and EVENLY around the outer race with a punch and you will be able to remove it out the drum. The same way you put a new race in. Just make sure it is going in strait. Good luck, Sam

Yes, I forgot to mention that the procedure I described in the post # 8 was for FWD. Sam

It looks like you drive 92 Loyale. There might be a groove that the shoes made in the drum. That what holds it. At the back of the weel there is a rubber thing that covers the adjusting screw. Pull it off. The screw is not hexagonal. It is square. I use a hose bib key to turn it but actualy a pair of pliers will work. Turn it one way and at the same time rotate your wheel. If the wheel stops then turn the key another way. I think 3-4 turns will be enough. Now go back to the side of the car. Do not remove your wheel but instead pry off the center cap that covers the bearing. Remove it. You will see a big nut, probably 36 mm. Carefully remove it. I think it is torqued only to about 30 pounds. Remove a lock washer (unbent it). Remove the regular washer and an outer bearing. CAREFULLY pull the wheel and drum off as one piece: there is an inner bearing that will want to jump out as well. I hope it will work for you. When you assemble it back tighten it until the wheel stops moving and then back it off 1/4 turn. Sam

Purge solenoid INSANITY!
somick replied to GeneralDisorder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I guess you have eliminated everything but wiring. Try to run a new wire directly from the ECU. The old one in the harness may be broken and when you start driving it just looses connection. Sam -
EA82 water pump replacement with AC
somick replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I am sorry. It is not driven by timing belt. I meant to say that you will have to remove timing belt covers in order to get to water pump. Sam -
