  1. Thanks for the encouragement. I will probably take on this job if I cannot get rid of the car Any recommendations on the decent HG brand? Sam
  2. Thank you Dave. I am still debating whether to do the HG job or just dump it. I will see how much the junk yard will give me for it. Thanks, Sam
  3. 92 Loyale with 187K. 2WD. Is there a way to guess if this is just a blown Head Gasket or a cracked head? The car has been losing coolant for a couple of years. Now the temperature started rising. I introduced compressed air in all the cylinders at TDC. At the cylinder #2 the coolant started leaking from the radiator. I am a fairly conservative driver, drive around the town and do not rev the engine. What do you guys think? Regard, Sam
  4. I know that trick but it has never worked for me. The copper gasket for the steering pump leaked badly no matter how many times I heated it. I replaced it with a gasket made from the gasket material and it still holds. I, most likely, do not heat it enough because I do not want it to melt, but being color blind I cannot really tell what is the right color. So back to the washers. What size are they and who carries them? Sam
  5. That was my plan but this was only one bolt. So I decided against it. If the OEM ones lasted me 188K I do not think I will be installing the new ones in the near future if at all! Sam
  6. Thanks Dave! That what I did, I even bled the lines. I just wanted to be sure. Sam
  7. A genius Subaru design requires disconnecting a brake line in order to replace front struts. That what I did. A Haynes manual says that I need to replace a banjo bolt washers. Does anybody know what size they are and what is more important what material? Copper, steel, gold? Thanks, Sam
  8. For a seven year old and 82K I guess the system needs some fresh fluid. I probably will do it. Thank, Sam
  9. 2010 Forester with 82K miles When I turn the steering wheel all the way to the right or to the left I hear a nasty squeal or squeaking. I checked the level of fluid when the engine cooled down and it was right on the line of "Cold Low" Could somebody look at yours? What level do you have? No previous work. No leaks. If I need to add fluid I guess the Dexron IV is good? Thanks, Sam
  10. Few months ago I contacted Monroe and they gave me the correct number. Good luck, Sam
  11. Like Texan noted in post # 2: make sure you mark the top hat and remember how it sits. Lubricate compressor's bolt. Use two sets of spring compressors. It is hard to tighten bolts on the new struts because they sometimes spin. Tighten those bolts when you put them back in the car. Good luck, Sam
  12. On my 1992 there is thermistor that is located in the sending unit. The thermistor is most likely dead. We had few threads on them here on the forum but I do not remember if anybody has ever fixed them. Mine died many years ago. Sam
  13. Actually this thread is about a different topic but, yes, I have had quite a bad experience with them. They sent me a wrong part once, they sent me a wrong part the second time. The distributor, they sent me with my third order, was for a wrong car as well. I had to pay for return shipping just to get my money back. I realize that I might have talked to a bad representative but the fact is that it cost me 10 bucks. They probably did not realize that they lost more money by loosing me as a customer. Regards, Sam
  14. Roach auto's database is very inaccurate. Do not deal with them.
  15. About four-five months ago I added a Red Toyota antifreeze to my 2010 Forester. So far so good. There is no gelling. The coolant level stays between the lines in the expansion tank. Sam
  16. Lubricate compressor's nut well. Mark everything, like Garry said. Be careful! YouTuber Eric The Car Guy has few helpful videos. Good luck, Sam
  17. I was driving to work this morning and realized that I did have one problem: rear windows. At about 70K they started sticking and going down with some kind of increments (not smoothly like you would expect). Removed the panels and lubricated the cables. The cables were pretty dry. That was it! Sam
  18. I have been driving 2010 since new. I have 79k on it now. No problems! It is not very good on city mileage - between 20 and 23. Highway is around 30 but with speeds no higher than 65. Sam
