Oil Filter
somick replied to keith3267's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I recommend you open Fram oil filter and OEM oil filter and compare them. After that open Purolator Pure One or Wix. After that you will be able to do recommendations! Sam -

I sprayed bolts with the penetrating oil and used my electric impact wrench. Did not have any problems. Good luck, Sam -
Loyale - Rear Drum Brake job
somick replied to jasonkaye's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If your warning lights come on it may be the sign of a failing alternator. Was your brake fluid level low in the master cylinder? On my 92 FWD I replaced only one wheel cylinder on the driver side rear about two years ago. Everything is fine. So if your pads still have some meat left, live it alone. Goo luck, Sam -
91 Loyale rear shock removal
somick replied to saltytheseadog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
On my 92 the bottom bolt needs to be attacked from inside, not from the outside the car. The nut on the outside of the car is just welded to the crossmember. Soak everything with penetrating oil and you will be good. Good luck, Sam -
Fuel Filter
somick replied to Kev1986's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I agree about the bad gas but my 2010 Forester maintenance schedule calls for 60K miles replacement. I believe the filter is a part of the sending unit which is located in the gas tank. Plenty of videos on YouTube. Sam -

Loyale Parking Brake Adjustment o_O

1. JesZek asked: "What are the Symptoms?" 2. What wheel do you spin? Front or rear? Good luck, Sam -
FreeSSM BEWARE
somick replied to somick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
---Correct, but at the beginning of the installation, you have an option to do the custom/advanced install, which lets you choose if you want adware and some other BS. --- That is the rout I always go. That is where I unchecked all their offerings and still got Trojan. -

True. I did not read. But based on my experience if you decline the "Agreement" the installation will not go on. Correct? -

YOU ARE THE MAN TOM! You have encouraged me to do what I wanted to do some time ago but did not get enough time to try. I was trying to start the engine with the sensor plugged in but the air duct disconnected and it did not work. What a stupid move! Assembled everything back and the car started right up. Thanks again, Sam

2010 Forester with 62000 miles. The parked car was hit on the passenger side front and now I can start the vehicle only with the MAF sensor unplugged. The sensor does not have any visible damage and looks clean inside. I do not get any codes with the sensor plugged in but I cannot start the engine. When I unplug the MAF the vehicle starts but I get the MAF error code. Before buying parts I would like to test the sensor. Is it possible to test it without a scope just using a DVOM? Regards, Sam

To install al timing belt you need to align three lines ||| on the flywheel with the arrow on the motor; not TDC. Good luck, Sam

Regular 5/8 hose will do it. But if you have inspections in Washington they will probably fail you. That what have happened to me. I had to buy "emission hoses" from the dealer. The prices for the hoses are different but overall it cost me about 50 dollars for all. If your dealer does not have them try to search online. Good luck, Sam

Heater fogging up windscreen
somick replied to rxleone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have had the same problem and the "stop leak" worked. Good luck, Sam -
I failed a smog test because I used regular 5/8' hoses. I do not know the situation in Washington but in California they made me to go to the dealer and buy EMISSION hoses there, They were not very expensive - somewhere around 7 to 15 dollars. Sam

I eliminated them on my 2wd 92 Loyale rears. It has been a year since I did it, and I had no problems so far. Sam

You are a lucky one. They sent me a wrong stuff and may me PAY for their mistake. DO NOT DEAL WITH ROACH AUTO!
