I did a D check on my 1991 Legacy due to some rough idiling. The fault code is 51, which is the neutral switch or the inhibitor switch. Can anyone help tell me the efects of these switches on the performance of the vehicle and the location of them? Thanks ahead of time. Doug

I am getting a PO1420 on my OBD2 reader, I have contacted the dealer they tell me this is a Fuel Tank Pressure control Solenoid Valve. Does anyone have a idea of the location of this valve? 1997 Outback with 160000km Doug

Turned out to be the bond between the relay and the frame. Thanks for your input D

I found it as you said up there with the others. Located on the upper portion of the fuse pannel. The four way issue was simply a poor bond on that relay. Thanks D

No it does not work on its own and I have replaced the flasher and the switch. Is there anything else in that circuit.

The four way flasher for our 1990 Legacy are cancelling out our turn signals when turned on, and will not flash on their own. Any ideas? D

Does anyone know where the relay is located for the rear window defroster in a 1990 Legacy? I am also having troubles with the 4 way flashers, the turn signals work but as soon as I put the switch on for the 4 ways everything dies out. Note all fuse check out okay for both systems. D

You should also check the connections and that there are no cracks in the tube feed the air from the MAF to the throttle body. I have seen this before and it will cause problems similar to what you have described. D
