  1. Talked about doing this back in the mid-late 90’s. 86-92 GL or GL-10 (brat in storage)/wagon or XT/6 plus VW TDI 1.9 ALH power plant (have in storage) plus PK Davis liftkit ….
  2. IT's the fall season "finally" around here and has been for a while up-yonder eh? I'd like to start a new chapter / thread. "Thanksgiving" reboot. Thanks for giving so mutually to this forum folks. (forgive my spelling still) Thanks to a few names I recall and haven't seen in a decade or more: ChefTim & his wife (& DRTYGRL) 78TurboBrat, Subaru3, Caleb Those who have been fond memories for me as well whom have been recently here in threads that I have seen: Moosens, Milesfox, Carfreak85, McBrat, Numbchux, ShawnW, Turbone, Zap, SubTex, Legacy777, and the ID from CT with 24 at the end? I wonder what ever happened to TomRHere & Huckster I thank you all for the civility, intelligence, honesty, and respect. Have a relaxing set of holidays with your families. (Cheers!) FYI this is a pic of me and some of our pup's from 2013
  3. i wonder what has happened to both the XT's you refer too....
  4. DUDE... let me tell you to start searching about the BYB lift kit.... its an Aussie designed kit. I got PK Davis (of Sandiego, California fame) to sell me one of his offical version of that designed kits for my wagon. they had a 2" kit but, I got the 4" kit. thats a start for ya. go forth and be fruitful!
  5. I ran across... errrm, Skip ran across me in a Ford diesel forum several years ago... then, I lost track of him from there too.... (looks at Moosens) Dude. Glad your still kickin it. I've been thru alot of stuff the last decade.... I so miss the Mentor the Skip was for me.... likely he was for many others as well.....
  6. i wonder what ever happened with the last 2 subies I owned..... "snowflake" my 88 xt6 was bought by a forum member & a 2nd forum member arrived in DFW and drove it to the east coast back around 06-09. same time period my "D/Ragon" 87 gl-10 lifted wagon (PK Davis lift) that I'd converted from 4EAT to a D/R 5spd .... got sold to some guys who --- IIRC kept it in texas..... never saw any other posts.... Granted I don't recall looking very hard either.... (shrugs) oh well.... off to do more paperwork... g'night yall.
  7. Been a while, this maybe a pre-intro to a potential subie-head here in the Plano,Tx area; if not "her" then maybe her parent(s)! (thumbs up) Have pic of her/their adorable soft blue hatch!
  8. Blast from the past. The truth is, it's in KPH -the Digi dash has a loop that I put a spst switch in to flip between MPH-KPH.

I sold her 2 yrs ago. I think.

  9. Yes, they are. And yes I still ha ve them.

  10. sheeesh,so here we are jan 12th and i still haven't got the pieces in a single box with a actual total weight idea for shipment. on my end... on your end I'll assume your nearly as busy as to why no zipcode has been sent to me yet too? shade and sweetwater, steve bauer 214.914.1963 att cell texting also works... :>)

  11. hey brother of the RV trail and forever mentor of all things subie I have a petty question or two for ya... when ya get time.... I wonder how far back does the idea of "Charter membership" stop? You obviously ought to be that but, how far after that did I join? I posted a sorta timeline in a donation thread just now in the community chest forum.... BTW the board is a *FULLY OPOERATIONAL BATTLESTATION NOW LOL( Muhahahaha) (smirks, snorts) shade and sweetwater, steve

  12. the following is a cut-n-paste of the 'voice' to the idealist inside: It's about dang time! I want the option for a crate purchase of the Common Rail Diesel engine with a 5+ speed Dual Range 2WD/4WD HI/4WD Low standard tranny with rear end that have a final drive ratio options of 3.25, 3.5, 3.75, 3.9. IF I showed you the threads in the many subaru forums that were about diesel conversion for older cars you just might realize an untapped market. Meanwhile I'm having to resort to converting a VW TDI powerplant to work with the EA82 trannies for these light weight platforms. Simply put, power to weight ratio is king: hp/torque + final drive ratio + 5 bolt pattern 15" rims = options to show the world 65+ mpg(real world city) platforms are doable with current off the shelf materials! Now am I too much of an idealist to expect a real honest reply from you folks?
  13. FYI I will go look at my spare left in the parts cache. I saw the thread you posted that Moosens replied to... I don't want to step on moosens offer. I also just replied to someone elses "need" for the intake... I know I also have the little vacuum thingy somewhere....
  14. AMEN Turbone! (quickly shows a sheepish grin) Granted I know I have in the past asked a quick question or two and forgot to search.... all in a days work eh?
  15. I sent SOA a message too.... specifics? I want a diesel boxer in the USA now...other wise I'll be hunting the net for a front clip to be shipped over from the E.U. or elsewhere. second beef? The DR5 spd or better yet... how about a 6 or 7 spd DR? IF the new jeeps get a 6 spd why not a 7 speed DR? /tangent... oops I forgot to send them about the tranny ideas.....
  16. i went to maps.google.com cut-n-paste "Whitewater, WI" and then went to satilite mode and wondered which direction on US 12? Towards LA Grange or Atkinson? (smirks from Tx)
  17. i wonder what ea82 subies their looking for....and in what states their looking.
  18. Gloyale, S'Ko, Gary.... Thanks alot guys... it took me some time to get "time" to actually do this fix. Spliced the 4 wires from the XT Turbo's wire loom and converted the 3 pin + pigtail TPS from the Wagons original Turbo intake wire loom. started right up.
  19. just ordered the "last two in stock" via amazon. (smirks) till they get more in stock for the XT6. Now to figure out the rear axle swapping issue.....
  20. Chux & Gary, You rock... now to go count the shafts and spline to see what is where and swap oput the toasted rears and see about ordering them GKC(sp) thru amazon...... side note to self( gotta bump up the thread on the TPS issue and ask about the HLA thread with the cool pic's on disassembly and cleaning.... )
  21. Okay dokie. I'm not gonna count my chickens just yet.... Gary, I'm wanting to clarify a couple things please. I have XT6 rear and front axle shafts that need replacement. I have a GL-10 turbo wagon(s) one has 3.9 ratio and the other has 3.7 There are a couple "other" shafts on the storage area that will need to be looked at and spline counted. What you say(And I trust you bigtime) is that the rears are the same size and spline count of the rears for all three cars, right?
  22. OKAY its been a wild time down here this last week. Sorry for the delay - REALLY- we had two seperate days this week where I experienced *Michigan like winter snow storms* flanked by warm spring Texas weather. Monday night we got at least 3 inches of snow that stayed till about 10 AM tuesday then thursday after noon it did it again and gave us 9" that stayed till ... well some areas still had some small north faces with a tidbit lieft on them.... tangent with weather link: http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/outdoors/monthly/75077?from=36hr_topnav_outdoors okay now back to Subie issues. Geez [editted heavily after clearing my mind - the history of the wagon] for remembering this all.....(shakes head side-to-side at self). HAd it running once these few issues were fixed: * making a throttle cable adapter plate * eventually realized - I think it was 180 degrees out * and one of the cam belts was like one tooth off as well. Once all was solved I took it over to Howe manufacturing to prep for the FMIC install... never followed thru on it sorry to say even after I trimed and covered all the areas for the tubing. Then i took it out for a test spin it was like 1 mile down the road and I finally really got on it and took it up over 4500RPM's and then looked behind to see the white cloud of fog from the tail pipe. i shut her down and towed it back to the barn and there she sat till this last fall (2005 July/Aug till 2007 Aug/sept). I had easily assumed without inspecting that I'd blown the headgasket or two. IT was set at stock boost BTW. so this setup had the following done to it: Using the 87 BLUE coupe/sedan/wagon FSM and the XT Red FSM (88? not sure at this writing) I had extra wire and did a meticulous build of the two 15/16 wire bundles so that I was able to -with some slack- make the XT turbo wiring harness directly plug into the 87 wagon wiring harness. Effectively it was a pair of extensions with one big difference, ALL the wires that were for grounding got a helping of serious grounding right at the mid point of the extensions to the frame. I rebuilt the engine in july 2005 with new main seals, gen 3 heads, gasket kits, oil pump, water pump, belts, and a the (freshly cleaned and painted black) spider intake from a XT turbo engine I had sitting around in storage while'st I still drove for GTS (18 wheeler). ...got it down to texas and figured out that the white smoke was from the turbo itself and not the freshly rebuilt engine. IT had very sloppy shaft play. I'm not sure how or why I missed such obvious shaft slop but, I did back then in 2005. SO I got it swapped out with a nice tight turbo and a new battery and started it up. it idled rough but i wasn't to worried as it figured it was due to two plus year old fuel. everything else was peachy keen. Got it smog and safety inspected it with only the oddity of a rough going from idle. It would sputter and buck ...however if I got it up above 3000 then I'd get it to rolling and then eventually get it up to speed. Funny thing is its smog rating was passed with flying colors at the two idle settings as they test at 575 RPMs and 2500 RPMs. go to put it under load and its flat out buck and sputter and die if you weren't careful. so then I did the tron chassing with a fluke metere (Ohms values) and found what I've listed about in this thread. I guess what I need to do now is use you'alls advice and at the same time ask for those images you offered too. Cut some wires and solder the tips and then make a 4pin connector into a 3 pin connector and mount the spare 3 pin TPS we have laying around. there does that make sense? GAWD I hope so! Oh shoot with all that babbling and i forgot to answer if its a hotwire or flapper MAF! 87 turbowagon stock airbox and MAF; it was originally a 3 pin TPS but, as I babbled on above the turbo Spider intake was kept original(4 pin TPS) and the wire looms were meticulously mated with the stock 87 wagon 15/16 wire looms under the coil. I'll post/load some engine bay foto's VERY soon... bedtime for this bonzo!
  23. I really liked reading this thread. Stimulating dialogue! I have one tiny tidbit to suggest to your last post about diesel engine brakes being ineffcient. I will simply disagree on the innefficentcy word useage. Reasoning? I used to be an OTR driver-trainer and the "Jake brake" was actually scarily efficent in some cases. I have an exhaust brake on the F350 7.3L PSD out in the driveway and let me tell you that it works -granted in a smaller scale- nearly as well as the setups in the KW's, Freightshakers, Peterbilts, "Nationals, Volvo's, and MAcks - etal. The big truck jake's (tangent) that I've worked with have adjustable settings: on a 6 cyl. engine you can have 3 settings; 2 cyl, 4 cyl, and all cyl braking. the owners manuals warn against loss of vehicle control if using the jake's without a trailer. jake's are even a backup sleep warning for a few drivers out there.... LOL put the jake on max and if their foot falls off the throttle pedal the jakes go off and wakes them up to pull over. LOL the unit on the F350 is actually a vacuum actuated flapper valve that closes off the exhaust at the rear of the turbo. so this is what .... a nickels worth of free advice? (tilts head to the side and smirks)
