  1. Its just keen how things work out. Community is a multi-spectrum experience. How one raises their kids in a neighborhood of other familys that actually care about the safety of ALL the kids and "Watchout for them all" its akin to this. I grew up in a neighborhood like this which I'm refering too currently. So this was in Michigan. Then when we moved to deep uber rural michigan farm land the community got a little more specialized and the care became more family like(not quite like Arkansas) but dare assume you knwo what I'm meaning here? Then wit this summers experience with Burningman coomunity regained a larger mouch more positive perspective. And this USMB community speaks volumes in concert with the previous versions of the same idea. I may naturally be a trusting soul but, i feel it equally returned in this community right from the gitgo. Speaking of... One of my roomies might be going to college at Eastern Wash. State in January..... and he may ask for me to help him get there:>) more warm and fuzzys anyone?
  2. I'll have the three of them tomorrow.. as then I'll be able to have then all infront of me and post it here? or would you mind an email with them in it? or is tomorrow too late? if so thats okay as its i dare bet a time window that your dealing with too? thanks dude either way.
  3. so what is stopping us from adding to this thread a list of injectors and their flow rates? you know something simple: injector name/ engine from/ flow rate FHI / EA81/ 450 GPS (or some other format?) is that too much to ask for - for us visual thinkers?
  4. look on the drivers door jam and see the manufacture date month/year the odds are higher that the double metal prong bright green connector is up under the hood next to the windshiled wiper motor's base. if so then the single prong black connector will be there with it too. That is instead of under the dash"kickplate". a test to see if its a clog from the tank to the pump is the simple syphon technique. have some clean can and a length of hose going from the output side of pump into the can and then have someone turn the key to "on" for ya for a few seconds to see if fuel does indead flow into the can. :>) IF thta doesn't run the pump long enough for your benefit then you could do the ole "jumper wire" trick and have the battery down near that rear tire and run a pair of alligator jumpers to the motor and have someone touch to the terminals of the battery to make sure that both pumps do pull fuel from the tank.
  5. I'd say pack it up and wait for the go ahead ... that's mho anywho.... after all the odds of finding it in his neck of the woods seems kinds difficult at the idealistic best. Well B_W_M, am I even close to correct on that one?
  6. well I have a V-O-A meter and we will be able to find out in a few days... I'll look at my FSM and think about it and see what happens later this week, okay?
  7. and picture and written data documentation would be supremely benefitial and worthwhil sticking in the USRM too!
  8. to be technical I believe they were two 35 galloon propane tanks converted for petrol use. And the explosive i believe was black powder not plastique IIRC.
  9. a newbie to the board with some mechnaical errm, electrical mechanical knowledge. For the record so your up to speed, ummm we have a few folks that are already aware of this which your speaking and that they are / were trying to squeek a few more PSI or converting to the higher non EA82 turbo fuel pumps. SPFI and MPFI non-turbo PSI is about 35-40 PSI Turbo MPFI is a whopping 67 PSI IIRC. now on to more fun... again welcome dude.
  10. so would this be life recieving communion or getting "washed in the blood of the lamb"? And if it is the baptism of Subaru then would it be oil, gear oil, Antifreeze, fuel, or some cocktail there in? Maybe its some mixture of cleaners and petroleum products to be of the whole experience eh?
  11. the Texas and Michigan vehicle codes are quite clear about forward illumination and quantity. Vehicle manufactures are not allowed more then 6 forward facing lights two of which to be allowed as fog lights. There is one thing that i have talked to police friends about and this is the wording with regard to being "illegal" on the road. I first off am not a manufacturer of automobiles so there for I don't fall under this limitation of 6 forward facing lights. so IF i felt so inclinded to rune 10 forward facing lowbeam headlights i could...... wouldn't be all that wise... BUT, i could because of the way it is written. The real bugger is making sure they all stayed aimed properly. the only "state of the union" with a ambiguously and if i dare say so vengful vehicle code is the Ironic state of Virginia (iron as its motto is V. is for lovers, with the police out for radar detector users and and other insidentals puhlease!) Now back to the ambiguous code the V. has which has several motorcycle organizations up at arms.... "headlights that are too dazzling" can be ticketed.... talk about your "no spitting on the sideway on sunday" kind of laws folks sheeeesh! oh wow your truck is heavily loaded and the trailer is full so this tilts the headlights up just a bit too high and you get pulled over for this rullling.... well if you jack the trailer off the truck and the headlights aim back to the proper place on the groudn that won't help you then for its to "Dazzling" . Give me a break! As for defeating a purpose? hmmmmm, I'm not gonna touch that with a 3 meter pole and haz-mat gloves. I like the properly aimed(and personally modified fog's) with the 55W lowbeams i got thank you very kindly. as well as the relay design that it runs on. As for Fog's and high beams simoltaniously? Your darn right I'll have them both on. Reasons for such a non-standard opperating condition? Sure, Deer, 'Possum, Fox, Dog, cat, pheasant, hog, armadillo, turtle, drunks crawling back to their cars, gators, *asphalt gators*(CB slang for recap laying on the road), potholes, lumber, trashcans, lounge chair, kiddy pool, tricycle, dresser drawers, trashbag of *stuff*, roadkill the size of a Mini cooper, and bolders. These are actual things I've had to swerve to miss while driving on freeways , back country roads, et al over the years that running fog's and low or high beams (and occasionally the OffRoad pencil beams) have allowed me to be aware of to avoid contact with and cause damage to both parties due to being able to se them. okay I hope this doesn't sem as a attack upon a specific member , it should be seen as a comment on the short sightedness of some legilation, and the mystical perspective questioning athority is -perhaps- wrong. So, IF you think I'm baiting or even attacking user: alias20035 then i think rereading is necessary for i never intended it as such. Sorry if this sounds abit caustic ... I haven't found a better way just yet to cohierantly sound more dyplomatic yet.....
  12. I would of thought the heavy offroaders would of discovered a way to "dis-abble" the HH unit insteadof having to monkey with a removal and then repurging of the brake system. After i did a swap onto the turbo from the ole GL (yes i like the HH and kept it) the install afforded me the opportunity to discover that if the adapter cable was "adjusted far enough out" the HH would not engage at all. -This came from findingout that the second "locking nut" had come loose and the primamry nut had unscreded along ways allowing for this "accidental knowledge to become appearant to me. any thoughts from elsewhere?
  13. center top of engine block: there is a very small hose that connects from the thermostat to this metal pipe sticking out of the block just under the front of the intake. this is one small hose that can create a leak. The next is the coolant flow from the thermostat to the turbo. the third is the heater core lines .... they might of sprung a seeping leak? just a few suggestions to consider.
  14. SEE SEE CALEBZ, SEE I'm not the only one to know of it now!!!!!! OKAY DUDE what city was it in.. I forgot to write it down the last time i drve thru. I do remember it is on the North side of town on the EAST side of the freeway. Mostlikely near atoka maybe???? (feeling like a dork for forgetting the town it was in) oh well.
  15. someone was and did a jpeg documentaion of the project.... just not to completion anyways as i haven't heard hide nore hair of it since this summer when it was initiall posted back on the old board i do believe. the project was the XT dash and steering assembly into a GL 3-door setup. persoanlly I had a wild idea but then when this came up i realized the major effort involved in tackwelding the harness and stuff into the GL body/ dash from the XT stuff.... it looked wild as all get out but, it did make me situp and take notice the manhours invovled in the entire DASH swap they where up to on top of the steeringwheel swapout.... just don't let this stop ya!
  16. makes me wanna ask (so I am) which forum is this? I haven't been to any in well a coon's age for that fact alone.
  17. Probably goona be thought of as "shooting myself in the foot" here but, has anyone ever seen the Pug's trunk area? Geez I forgot how to spell pugeot(sp). If you haven't then I recomend you do. Those of you whom have might want to back me up here too [looks at the (lurker Okami and Calebz then coughs loudly] seems they have their gastank saddled up against the rear seat in the "sedan's trunk" area. interesting to note it approximately the size (within a few inches) of the measurements of the storage space in the rear of our subie wagons flooring. Then of course there is the hsitoric use of gas tanks in the 1950/60/ and into the early 70's of American Trucks for them to stick the tank in the CAB right behind the seat. SO here is my harebrained idea: That Pug fueltank and all its straping stuff and lines etc. snag it! then pull the piano hingepin from the subies rear wagon storage area and have someone help you cut the area up. ***ONCE you measure the needed cutting area*** the old addage of measure twice cut once. Yeah, use it. Then you can mount the pug tank in the rear of the wagon or sedan or XT in said region and then adapt the feuldoor for the two nozzles or make a second fuel door right next to the stock location okay? THEN lay some of that amazing black tar like substance and seal around the tank with some custom square shaped -box-like metal fabrication and then bolt it down (noe that it's *Sealed* and yer good to go with a second fuel cell). OR if you want a single one and this is a higher position no doubt then you can use the area for some other stuff like who knows what? a smaller less area hanging mod'ed tank that would go back in the stock place that just holds less fuel is all. or who knows.. maybe you could cut it out and make a hidden box for steroe sub and speakers and other stuff to be hidden from view when you lift the rear seat tab Voila you have storage space and speakers and amp... but now I'm babling so there.
  18. (sincerely thanks yo!) ummm I'm wondering if I too have forgotten to get back with folks on a few things (non-financial dealings only though) I can only assume(too easily) that I have been missing the boat and train on some stuff but can't quite put my finger on it yet. "Not wanting to jack your thread, if you wanted this to be a *thread* ... just didn't want to loose sight of the thought so ... okay?
  19. are those "guages" of the mechanical or electircal type? if they are of the electrical variety then I'd think getting the detector outta the engine is a wise idea too... that way you can figure out the electrical resistance for the messuring device and where / how you'd install it in your ride.
  20. (I'm hunting for my link to the folks that rebuilt my heads.) OR rather it ended up being that they sent me a different set in place of them and as I was so sfecific in data on the heads the guy went on and sent me Gen 3 heads intensionally instead of the gen 2's i sent him. (paused while'st i hunt for the favorites *link*) http://www.cylinderhead.com/contact.htm these are the guy's I delt with.... because I was calling them about once a month as to what i was trying to do and then when he finally got in a load of heads to reman he found a few gen 3's after i had explained to him what I had since learned from the wonderfull board we have here... he was so surprised the info i had from the board that he would keep his eyes open for this or that and when i'd call him he' would respond with a "you know" with that awareness I'm starting to wonder what other car makers have such similar tracking techniques for evolution of the heads.... he never did tell me what he found out though... but he did help out when i discovered that a single head wasn't fully refitted... it had a drilled hole but, didn't have the threads for it, and a different place was drilled and threaded that was supposed to be solid metal. :>) real fast turnaround and i liked the customer service too. mostr likely he's remember me if you wanna make a reference to the college kid in Texas with the subaru turbo -- if you choose to talk to Mark Glew up in PA. otherwise, here is more of my reasearch... http://www.cylinderheadstogo.com/about.htm http://www.cylinderheadsonline.com/index.html http://www.headsonly.com/headsonly.home.htm http://www.wla-engine.com/Default.htm
  21. gotta love the raind and blah cold... we might be playing with the "Lil Red Wagon" on sunday *IF* and only *IF* its cleared up and warmed up. the mileage is wild.. .the best i ever got in the gl 4WD 3.90 d/r 5 spd (carb'd) was a one time tank full thru chicago in the laste fall at 31. mpg ONCE. back then the usual was 26-28 mpg in that ole girl. this turbo wagon with the same drivetrain is lucky to hit the 25 mpg barrier. its been as bad as 14mpg but, THAT was a semi full cabin and a loaded to the gills 4X6 foot box trailer from uhaul for the moving of random stuff back to michigan from texas. that was running 70-80 mpg too and the best i got in the run up there was like 18 when i had to do the 65 in illinois.
  22. after all someone was making noise back when we were on EZBoard still that the EA81 psitons well actually the EA71 pistons were a nice 8.5? CR and that was better then the 7.7 EA82T's we currently run... and then there was the tangent to the idea on reorganizing the engine with a longer stroke using the pistons from a 1600 .... and then it all got weird from there so if your asking that its possible ... I'm willing to wager a good sized bet that there will be abunch of EA81/71/61/82/82T internals that are actually the exact same part and part number. From a design stand point.. why "reinvent the wheel" ever time you increase engine size? look at the Cadillac for example (I had a caddie while in the navy - it was BAba's(my gramma's) ... the 1977 coup De ville was a 425 V-8... did some researching turns out that its the Exact same block as their famous 500 from the mid 1960's they just made smaller jug's and shortened the piston shafts, and shaved the heads. boom a 425. same boat ancher of a block too. see why I'm with you on the thinking that they are actually the same parts.....
  23. tools of the trade.... for reducing the mental stress of it. the obligitory jack and jackstand and whel chock. the hammer and punch (that fits inside the center hole of the shafts threaded end) as well as the punch that will push out the pin up near the tranny output shaft. the castle nut removal and cotter pin in it too. (good idea to at least break this huge nut loose first before jacking the car upuntil recently i used a good sized monkey wrench and a cheater bar but now i have a 36MM socket Tank Q Okami! :>) its rather straight forward to accomplish -- just be patient and the top of the hub where the strut attaches with its two bolts and the diskbrake caliper s two bolts, and sometimes that 12mm front anti swap bar bolt (one of the two) is also removed to easy the lowering of the lower A-arm for hammering out the shaft from the hub... don't forget to grease everything up good when you reinstall and of course inspect the surfaces of the barrings and hub seals to see if a replacement is worthwhile.
