  1. the shop is in southern cali. i emailed with the folks there and they "stopped making the gasket sealant and sent the recipe to some folks that do MG's and other makes as he said he didn't have time to do it for every order." i never heard from the folks as i requested order info from their 800 number and email site.... maybe, just maybe I'll remember before tomorrow?????
  2. okay folks looks like i completely lost my brain cells that had the memories for drop and install of the tranny. I can't seem to get that puppy in to save my life. I first tryyed the "single jack with a block of wood to hold the rear of tranny up as i lifted and guided the splined input shaft into the clutch disk... had used the clutch alignment tool that came with the kit and the disk was correctly aligned . the lower two studs were clean and the tranny did take a little effort to get up on to them.. but would go no further. took back down and tried it "manually using my legs to support the tail section and the arms to lift and guide into the disk but this next hour of effort was exhausting and frustrating... oh yeah and it was kinda chilly too. last attempt was with a second body to help(Mom) and we just couldn't get the top front "Tranny to engine block" bolts to pass all the way thru the engine block section for a nut to grab any threads and pull the tranny the rest of the way on... I almost once had the lower studs in far enough to put nuts on them.. and that was when the clip ring that holds the throw out bearing to the folk arm popped off. Yeah so it had to be pulled back apart to put the clip ring back on.... well i am going to bed now... night night.. will check in the AM to see any other advice... sage or otherwise. yes i know how to laugh atmyself but i'd prefer to wait till after the car is back on all fours if you don't mind waiting till then to make any wise cracks please.....(grumbles at self for letting an inanimate object best him)
  3. well lets see lets start out with the environmental parameters.... sunny clear crisp 21 degrees at sunrise...45+ by 11 AM just ate breakfast and went out to put subie in garage to jack it up and swap out the clutch kit. removed the front wheels, popped out the CV pins at the tranny stubs; disconnected the shifter arms at the tranny and pulled out the rear drive shaft middle support(vibration dampener) two bolts. layed the shaft off to the side, loosed the tranny support bar 19MM bolts then disconnected the cables at the top of the tranny and the speedo cable(oops almost for got this one); disconnected the electricals -obviously- and then finally took out the starter and the 2 bottom nuts and the top two bolts that hold the tranny to the engine case. then the slow process of dropping it out, under, and arround the exhaust pipe.... removed the offeneding PP, throwout bearing, and disk....yuppers it was toast... it was within a mm of the rivet surface... had some mild spots of polished flywheel and PP surface... went in for dinner at this point as it was chilly again and the sun had set by now.... Ya see i had this overwhelming urge to take my time... neaver mind the total removal time(according to the family is 2.5 hours for removal last night) okay now today i was to get started at the ripe ole time of 10 (ish)AM... nope... today was the first day of rifle deer season.... and Larry(Step-Dad) got a nice one.... so i was asked to go help take it to the processor. this took time so about 1:30PM I finally got started on the install... cleaned the flywheel and scuffed it up a weeee bit with #0000 grade steelwool and a green brillo pad. .. i had to remove the flywheel to get the pilot bearing out and in the process broke 3 cheapy 14MM sockets on the flywheel bolts as i had misplaced the craftsman socket last night. Okay so now that its back in and asked Mom to provide a little third arm and hand assistance while torquing the flywheel back in.... i was then able to spend the next 1.5 -2 hours dinking around with the hydralic and different agles to slide/lift/manhandle the tranny up into a position for the CV's to be slid back on the stubs....(I ended up sliding under the car and then sliding the tranny up onto my knees and chest) once there i used the knees to lift the tail section and my arms to scissor(sp) the front up and into place. Well its resting on the exhaust and the CV's installed and ... its time for hot tea(Ginger) and a break... its chilly out there.... and soloing a clutch swap in this weather -scratch that- solo period... is not fun by ANY stretch of the imagination. see the weather where I'm currently at: http://www.intellicast.com/Local/USLocalStd.asp?loc=usmict1713&seg=LocalWeather&prodgrp=Forecasts&product=Forecast&prodnav=none&pid=none oh yeah and the joy of knowing i have a preplanned load out of Muskegon,Mi tomorrow for Kansas City [picks up between 8 AM and 2 PM](YEAH a load away from the NY/NJ arena of freight)!!! ...and I was planning on recieving a wonderful massage trade this evening to boot! Alas it looks to be a no go on the massage and i'll just head to Grand Rapids once its reinstalled later tonight. alright now back to the tea as it needs to be nuked again to be really warm this time of night. Unless its absolutely necessary i don't recomend a solo adventure of this variety. Side note: *IF* anyone happens to run across or have a spare set of relay's and vacuum parts to the vacuum actuated Locking Rear Shaft on this FT4WD tranny out of a XT6 I'd like to talk to ya about financially(or other wise) trading with you for them... granted the rearend isn't a LSD rear yet..... but that's in due time as well. OKAY Subject tangent!!!!! ....there is this individual who lives in PA that was wanting to aquire the 14" pug's that Calebz has? and you have/had some Aluminum 15" pugs? Well now you'll have to deal with me on the Pug rims for when next i get to Texas I'll be picking them up from him for a cost to me... and then i'd consider trading the 14" steels for your 15" alum's *IF* your still up for it...... the only catch is I'll have them with me on the truck(18 wheeler) so you'll have a 48 hour warning for everytime I'm able to roll through your neck of the woods in PA. So get in touch with me or Calebz for my cell # and we'll see how easy it will be to swap out the rims and when over the next few months it will occur. Fair enough?????? seems fair to me to be this up front about the situation so how about it dude? you still on the board and will you see this thread before the end of the year? (wry grin) [Tip's the hat and gentlemanly bow to the Lady's in the house] then[waves to all the guy's] "Seasons greetings ya'll!"
  4. injector flow rates... that being said where/who has the sheet to show flow rates for EA82 and the ER27 injectors for comparison AND for comparison from the cleaning that you guys are thinking of doing.,.... inquireing minds and all that
  5. [Warning seasonally specific PUN] "don't *fumble* this ball, keep running with it." I'll be sure to *start* coilessing(sp) my data over the next few months and then keep an eye on this thread too...... when time permits.---of course
  6. lets seeeee. half shaft difference between the spline counts for "strength" is well........ technically an interesting dialogue - for sure. I've done some serious towing with the D/R tranny in its original NA 86 wagon, and its seen near equal - dare i say its also seen harder driving as well in the turbo wagon i swapped it to. Spline counts means "Stronger shafts"? Might be, but I have yet to see any realworld different in strengeht... now boot life is relative to the road/offroad hazzards and so you may be doing a warranty replacement of a halfshaft (like have done twice plus) sooooo.... its up to you. BTW from my humble, yet simple bio and geocities site ...and even the galley of images i have on here.... you can see my GL-10 turbo wagon and her D/R setup..... BTW I have now had to substitute the XT6 FT4WD tranny for the D/R as grinding started to occur...... I have two D/R's and both have different internal problems... so I'm figuring on a rebuild from the two of all the best parts and wammo... ressurected D/R for the "Silver D/Ragon" caio
  7. even at $200 for 4 would they come with new studs and lugnuts? new bolts or would one reuse the bolts and lugnuts? what about the disc brakes? whould the disks be reused or would remanu's or new be part of the mod?
  8. hello newbie to the board... may I humble suggest (while admittedly assuming) your skill level. That if you had time and patience to do this, some basic tools, and a friend or two that you'all could spend a day doing it and it end up fine and done correctly. size of sockets that I remember needing to do it minimalistic style: shallow and deep socket sizes: 10(S),11(?),12(S),14(S&D),16(?),17(S)mm's IF you have the spare $ I'd also recomend the craftsman wabble sockets. A jack to cradle the tranny and help with the tilting of it away from engine, etc. I know for a fact that several of us could talk you thru this over the phone.... think of it as a "tech-help call line for subie maitnance" LOL
  9. okay and ummmm, if someone has a spare set of these bushing and could send them to (us) at Mike and Beth's house here in Texas. that would be a blessing. I got the money and can "mail it" i would offer to paypall it but, i need to update the numbers....... i go back on the road monday about 10-11 AM. if this could be done in such short notice then awesome and thanks in advance....
  10. Hiya'll, I did a few searchs for threads in the board: "cybrid steering bushing XT6" "cybrid steering bushing" "cybrid steering" "cybrig" and for somereason it didn't bring up the old thread where someone posted the part number for those bushings. (in a yodling voice) Sooooooo, what is iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttt??! I'm back off the road for the weekend. Took apart the unit and discovered that the existing brushes are fully extended and can be pushed further out to contact *fully* the rotating shaft of the motor. Thanks of rall the well wishes elesewhere and in your thoughts, It's been a unsane 6 months out there OTR.
  11. Yes I am gonna be quick and short..... The Silver D/R'agon is in need of a clutch very, very soon...like with in the next 3-5K miles. So as I didn't have time to search the site and its archives... if someone over the next 2 weeks has time and wouldn't mind replying with a link or two for the hi-po clutch for the XT6 or Turbo wagons..... that would be lovely. Second..... Just got the I*C*E* PAK back from Jacobs... the MB had fryed back in Feb... took 3 months to send it to them, and a month of them playing with it before i got a phone call to tell me the MB was toasted.... $72 total later it showed up here .... i installed it back in the Silver D/R'agon and she purrrs nicely now. who knows when I'll be in or near your neck of the woods... I had a super close call 2 weeks ago in Ocala FL.... but i think you may of seen it onn the other thread..... well, I'm off and running tomorrow AM for another 2 weeks. IF for some bizarre reason you see me online during the next two weeks that means i found a killer deal on a power inverter and a WIFI PCI card for the desktop in the truck! caio folks.....
  12. Hellloooooo Tribe member (happy grin) I wonder *IF* you have seen the specific threads about the vagueness that are Chiltons' manuals for "timing the engines" of our subarus. the book (correct me where i am wrong folks) misses a step entirely for Chilton where the FSM describes much better. The starting situation with the from Cam covers off to see the "hole/notch" in the cam wheels.... drivers side "hole" in cam needs to be at TDC on the notch in the cam cover backplate *With the flywheel at 0 degrees* IIRC THEN tuyrn the crank 360 degrees and then**** then you turn the crank untill the passenger side Cam "hole" is lined up with the notch at TDC (AKA 12 O'clock) this is EA82 correct alightment and then you can look in the #1 cyl for adjusting the TDC of the piston is carrectly matched and then drop in the dizzy for buttoning it all up.... did i screw up you train of though Abue? take care..... I'm off to Florida for a week with Gramma and the two great aunties.....
  13. my my my, MAd scientist stuff is what your up to now eh? I suppose I'll get to see the spider setup in at least a month from now eh? Sorta considering that after this weekend I'll be away from a PC tillll 4-6 weeks from then....
  14. I'm cornfuzzled folks. I require the "Clue-X-4" ... I dont believe that "Clue-X-Nuke" is warrentted yet sooo after reading this thread I'm rather close to an infinite loop. What happened to the R&D Skip was doing? Where did this project come from? What's with the 10 order min? I feel like I'm trying to learn a new language here sorry folks. Did a group collaberative occur in my traveles? Or not? Somehow... someone care to clear the welders fog in my eyes?
  15. LOL oh no man... I have only been drifting about the surface of the earth for the last few weeks. Fallen off would mean "Gravity" had decided to ignore me.... now that would be wild but, alas I am back. thanks for the kind thoughts too dude.
  16. OKay, first off after unpacking i discovered that the piece of paper with the writting on it was left behind on Randy's truck. So, now after a lengthy time thinking over the CON-US Road Atlas here is the limits of my memory. The road was on the north side of the free way. The road did something close to a 30 degree bend as it came close to the freeway. The house was almost ontop od the apex of this bend and had very little property between that road (on its north side) and the freeway on its south side. The house had no garage but, the driveway was filled with the brat and two full sized 4WD trucks. One was a late model Chevy blaser IIRC and the other was a Ford pickup also 4WD. Both not looking too close to stock. The red brat was sorta up on jacks, had a red cap on its rear and had white wagon wheels. I still think its a 85-86 design and was very stock looking. The freeway we were traveling on was the Westbound side of I-78/81 in Penn. between Allentown and ... i think maybe Fredreicksburg.... well that's about it on the memory of it .... Now for the funny Gen I wagon story. In the late afternoon on I-40 headed westBound. Location is at an intersection just to the north of the freeway --actually it was a offramp traffic light intersection light below and slightly north og the freeway. I-40 was making a slow sweeping curve to the south over this stretch of road... the street had service roads sorta paralleling the freeway. I was sitting in the co-pilot seat relaxing before trying to take a nap in the sleeper and looked down at the intersection to see (I burst out laughing at my observation) there was a camel tan colored 77/78 model wagon sitting at the traffic light making a right turn to go north on that road... Just last week on our final return from California in approx. the same area of I-40 while I was driving this time i saw what really could of been that same wagon, it had a A bar in front that was a bit rusty and the folks driving it had the windows down.... Now, here's the absurd part.... both of these sitings occured in the same area of the freeway unfortunately I don't know if it was in AZ or NM. IF is was AZ then it was between Seligaman and Flagstaff. IF it was NM then it was somewhere close to Grants to Gallup area where there are small south sweeping arcs on the freeway. In Virginia there was a divided hiway that we traveled heading east i do believe that is where the next oddity occured.... it was on a "Divided section of freeway" the state highway was 221/460 out of Roanoke. There was this flatbed wrecker with no "lights on top" that had a blue 75-80 4WD wagon and it too had the white "A bar" on its front. The salvage yard wrecker was pulling out and heading towars Roanoke. :>) There was also a 87/88 GL 4WD wagon at the Dealership in Roanoke where we had the topend rebuilt on the tractor. The subie driver was only there one of the two days and unfortunately i didn't get back to leave a reference to here on their windshiled. :>( ah well..... that's enough for now... time to go be chores-wise productive for the rest of today folks......
  17. ... and biways.... Subarus and lots of them. LOL You want to see something funny (if a bit sad) I saw a 85-86 red brat in Penn. IIRC and wrote notes down about it in hopes someone might know of its owners! (how lame is this? LOL) Anywho, when i unpack tomorrow I'll find this piece of paper and post the specifics... I mean i have freeway, exit number and milemarker location as the house was so close to the freeway that a golfball trown from the cab of the truck would of hit this house the brat was parked at. now about the last for weeks and reason for no phone calls from em as i wondered the states..... phone numbers where written on a notepad... it got left upsatirs on the bed accidentally (does the Homer Simpson "DOH!") ah welll life is good..... more later folks... 10-10 on the side
  18. While I was returning from my first drive into NYC- actually out onto Statton Island with a loaded 48 footer out on I-80 in Penn state; I believe it was in Penn state anyways... (I'm sorry but i left the specific notes in the cab of the KEnworth and didn't bring them with me to visiting my uncles in So-Cal.) Anywho, on the north side of the freeway (I-80 i wanna say) was a house that had a red brat in stock form, with low level capper and stock wagon wheels and no obvious rust ewither. It sitting next to two other 4WD fullsized trucks and I wondered if anyone knew of it... I guess I'll have to have someone give me a call on the cell and they can update this thread for me as tomorrow I believe I head back to the terminal for load assignment and backl out on the road for a few more weeks. I should be computer connected again about Tax day if your curious....and if you want... you can phone me as I had accidentally left that nice long phone list at the parents over in michigan and did n't bring it with me....... So I am currently at my uncles house visiting for the next 20 odd hours. Been thinking of alot of y'all but with the way thew trainer and I have been driving ... the idea of visits over the last few weeks was a joke of an idea! I'm giving folks permission to give out my cell # if someone comes asking... just don't post it in a message please....thanks in advance. sincerely- the absentminded professor in training. steve AKA electryc Monk P.S. caleb your # is one of them that i hadn't quite memorized so that's why i haven't rung yer bell as compared to Crazy mike and them's house dude....sorry yo!
  19. clean and utilitarian as all get out....... VERY SOLID looking too. (two thumbs up)
  20. how big of hurry you in? do a search on the board for keywords "Air ride" there are a few solid threads that a few of us have partisipated on with the system...... I'm off to bed ... and tomorrow AM I have a few things to test out on then I shall return... if you like email me directly or PM me and I can phone ya back directly if you wish..... I'm no genious by any means but i do know a few things about the air ride stuff (reassuring grin)
  21. and *I* second the emotion! For reasons of insanity I plead this idea for 2nd'ing that request. Using the Freedom rotory engine design that the aerocar is currently testing...... imagine the 150HP 125LB of physical weight (N.A. engine) using this mating for a subie? Oh wait they are currently researching a EFI system, turbo system, AND (this has me very curious) a turbo diesel EFI project for the rotory block they are working with..... how about that for project maximus?
  22. Geee I know where there are at least 2 sets of them motor mounts to practice on before taking yours out and trying it (smell what I'm cookin'?
  23. I am preping to take a drive to Florida from up here in Michigan somewhere around my birthday week..... that be 3rd week of april if anyone cares...... (to drive my gramma(Baba) back to michigan so I see no reason why I couldn't make a mild detour to see BillyC and the homefront and offer a hand *IF Time fits the gathering*. That being said ...who knows I might have something else happen between then and now that could change things to a bright idea..... in the mean time run with it yo! Billy (side note) did my direct email or PM ever make it to ya? (scratches head) I feel like i did , or am I just thinkin' i sent ya a message.?????? sorry to say but, i can't even remember what i had asked of you and your then huge parts bin for.....
  24. for CB install.... I removed the center roof /dome light and used the "CB adapter plate" - that *U* shaped thing to hang a CB with.... yeah, then measured the distance to the holes in the rafter beam and then set one screw in the long hole on one side, and then only had to drill one hole on the other side.... used the power wires for the dome light as power to the CB.... popped the headliner down just a bit in the rear of the wagon, feed the antenna cable from the tailgate straight to the domelight hole and then looped in twice.... Screwed the bracket in place, mounted the CB to it.... screwed in the antenna and bingo its installed. ** I also taped speaker wire to the antenna. That way I could have the 6X9 external speaker for the CB set in the rear of the wagon. ** I also had the time to run speaker wire with a mono headphone jack attached to it for the front passenger pillar and down near the heater fan and then up thru that rubber boot right behind the passenger strut tower... this wire went to the PA horn. so the CB/PA was set solid..... the only odity... the rearview mirror was how I checked the Channel CB/WX/PA setting :>). now that I have a GL-10 with a sunroof.... I haven't had the guts to do it with the glass sliding over that frame rail.... ya know..... i might deside to try it now that i have a few spare days before-
