  1. cool... but dont be surprised when you're lights fill with water being upside down like that, cause dont most offroad lights have a drain hole somewhere in the bottom? at least all of the ones i've had do other than the sealed beam ones
  2. well the monster is getting retired to the farm for some major major work(needs new engine and clutch, plus I got a number of projects I'm gonna get a start on, but I want to take my new 84 wagon out and see what it can do. I'm not gonna be doing anything super crazy so stock rigs would be welcome. I was thinking of somewhere around estacada/clackamas or back up to crooked finger again. Anyone interested?
  3. not sure... when you changed your bearings how did your brake pads look? some pads will have a little metal peice on them that makes a whole bunch of noise when the brakes arent being applied.
  4. I clocked my torsion bar 1 notch which makes out to about 3"-4" of lift, and I dont have any problems with wheels not being centered in the wheel well.... if you have a problem with that it may be a lot easier just to move the whole torsion tube assembly back an inch or to rather than have to make new trailing arms and control arms. its the IFS that needs some serious modification to make work good... I'd try to adapt a nissan 720 front suspension w/ the torsion bars, it ROCKS, especially for high speed baja style stuff.
  5. I'm trying to figure out what it would take to lower my new ea81 wagon, I've pretty much got the back figured out, either shim where the torsion tube mounts to rotate the wheels up, or clock the torsion bars one notch, and then adjust the rear diff hanger accordingly to get the right axle angles back. I'm not sure what I can do about the front, I dont think I can really fabricate something like I can in back.
  6. negative... I've got about $2000 into mine, thats also including all the repairs I had to do when I got it and over time... either way, you got streetable money pit or something you gotta trailer around
  7. give me your number and I'll call you up... the beast is getting parked, toasted the clutch yesterday and something is up with the pressureplate, along with the motor having really bad rod knock so thats gonna be down for a month... but I will be wheeling my stock DD wagon once I get some newer tires on it in the mean time.
  8. no need to tell me... evidence was all over the ground everywhere
  9. thats also true.... damn I guess I'm a nutcase
  10. I'm glad you brought that up, the amount of trash out there was incredible... at the end of a trail we found a truck load of f-in truck tires on rims, saw the occasional couch or fridge around along with broken glass everywhere we went. those shot up cars are at the side of a quarry thats like maybe 1/4 mile off the road or less... yeah, when I get things running right and have time I think a trail cleanup would be pretty cool, and pretty fun with some of the crap out there we'd be dragging out. I would totally be down with helping organize a trail cleanup, assuming I can get my dads nissan 720 pickup going. the tool that craig was using was a mallock, at the time I was FWD only because i didnt have my rear axles in(which later I installed) , and that tree stump was holding me up... being highly modified compared to craig or aarons sube I ended up doing a bit more of the crazier stuff. It was a pretty fun day, didnt even break down really other than my exhaust hanger breaking causing the exhaust to touch the rear driveshaft, which only caused a massive headache.
  11. well went up to crooked finger today with Craig(scoobyclimbs) and Aaron(fastenova). Had some fun, I got a few pics but I believe Craig and Aarons friend got many more, anyways they can speak for themselves: and yes, my rig took a bunch of body damage: lost drivers side mirror, lost both headlight bezels, all front turnsignals and one headlight, big dent in the fender and my doors are all bent in from going through gaps in trees slightly narrower than the subaru..
  12. hmm... back in the day when smoking was "cool" .... but i dont smoke cigerettes or have one of those trays.
  13. yeah, thanks, most people know about PBR and those who didnt now do... so good riddance. I dont think that will be a newbie topic that people will flame SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH!!! if it ever comes up. yea, I'm gonna grab some ea82 cups and see how much flex I can get away with, and then I will be getting some straps. the other thing I'm contemplating is having the local driveline shop(6 states) make me some rear axles using ujoints instead of DOJ and have a slip joint in the middle, but I fear those will be pretty spendy, my guess is around $250 axle, but that way I wont be having to replace the whole unit when I destroy something. I'm actually pretty impressed with how the IRS performs, I'm not a big fan of the IFS setup, but all in all when going over knarly stuff I feel I have a better grip/handle on it with this than I did when I had my solid axled heep of crap. and yeah I finished watchin the video, pretty bad arse. I might have some more stuff for you to add pretty soon if you want(give me a month or so).
  14. ok that doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me, cause I'm coming from portland not salem... ok so I'd be coming from I205 SB, so I'd get off exit 10, get on 213 towards mollala and then what?
  15. little short notice... but I'm IN, I was gonna go up to the farm tomorrow buut since I'm not on any particular schedule I think that sounds good. Where you want to meet because i'm not familiar with the area, only heard of it in the past.
  16. oh I forgot to mention dont try flexing that much with your rear axles in kinda surprised no one caught that
  17. sorry I was wrong I was thinking waterpump... oops something that sometimes help is tapping *gently* with a hammer to help break things loose without *breaking* anything.
  18. yes there should be 5 bolts that hold it on if I remember right, and I think at least one is partially covered by the pulley if thats what you are talking about.
  19. how about some details about the symptoms?
  20. yeah, considering I have brakelines 12" longer than stock all around I have to say SSB lines would make a small differance in how the pedal feels but I'd upgrade other brake parts first. my brakes are all stock and I'm running around with 29" swampers, I can still lock up my tires barely but doing so makes me feel like I'm going to push the entire pedal assembly out the floorboard.
  21. I'm in. hopefully by then I'll have at least rebuilt my engine and tranny, even if I dont have my married tcase/tranny setup finished yet(shhhhh... its a secret ). so cross your fingers for my wagon, if my wagon cant make it my nissan 720 will, which is stock but is armored and will have good tires.
  22. just have some place make them. I didnt get the braided lines but I got my breaklines made here at this place called Oil Filter Service. Wasnt that expensive either.
  23. man I'm excited to see swampers on an otherwise stock car... so far my experiance has been they are a VERY good tires, honestly, I've put about 3000 miles on my swampers(hard driving and several smoking burnouts ) and surprisingly have almost no wear for how soft the compound is. These are bias ply TSL/SX, I expect to probably get around 20k miles out of them which isnt bad for a bias ply mud tire. You shouldnt ever have problems with traction with those tires, I can run at highway pressures FWD only through some nasty mud without problems... the only thing that will stop you is clearance and wheel travel. For me, since I'm currently FWD only, I'm good untill I lift a front tire off the ground, havent gotten stuck other than by doing that. I just wish they made swampers small enough to fit my daily driver subaru... hows the ride, sound and feel mean enough for you? my entire dash and hood shake violently at slow speeds with my swampers
  24. I'm not sure, if your going out 26/burnside or whatever and take a right at the very last light on the way out of gresham as if you're going to mt hood... thats like palmquist road or somethign I forget but its not that far down that way. Yeah there was a lot of dumping I noticed, 3 abandoned trucks, one of them looked like it got so stuck they just left it, another one was just stripped down and a bunch of highschool kids were sitting on and around it smoking pot. also seems like theres been quite a few rollovers out there cause I was always running over misc. body(truck not people) parts.
  25. looks a bit nice to be lifting... I'd pimp that out for a street rod since you already got one lifted wagon, although its my opinion the ea81s were better for offroad, only because I have one and the torsion tube setup rocks.
