  1. I once had a tire fall off on the freeway going about 60mph... cause I forgot to use a cottor pin ground a good inch or two off of my backing plate, this was when I still had 31s on my car. was also fun to watch my tire roll down the median with the brake drum and everything for a half mile. fun stuff
  2. just like everyone else said, GEARS
  3. I dont have any and I dont have any money for tires right now... and I guess I need to figure something else out cause GD figures I shouldnt even be driving that motor cause of the rod knock its got. I suppose he is right but bleh...
  4. well I'm trying to get a car together that can make a trip down to eugene safely... and at the moment i have nothing. My subaru is the best running car I have at the moment but with the lift on it needing work its not safe to drive. I'm considering taking the lift off and returning it to stock height untill I can get what i need to fix my lift... I know this is kind of a retarded question for me to be asking but does anyone know if a 29x10.50 swamper can be made to fit? I'm more worried about the front because my torsion bar in the back will still be clocked for lift, since it will be on the highway large amounts of wheel travel isnt needed. If that doesnt work out I can swap out my 29s with the 27s on my nissan but I'd rather not have to do that :-\
  5. hmm... what exactly is our lifts considered? theres some stuff in there that mentions a body lift cannot use spacers bigger than 3" and cannot raise the frame off the body more than 4"... how does that apply to us? btw for those wondering my subaru is registered in washingonton not oregon. other than that I think I've got some work if I want to be street legal... kinda impossible to do anything about my bumpers and frame.
  6. yeah seriously... war pigs by ozzy osbourne/blacksabbeth... tons of bands have played their songs tho, dont know which one is in that vid.
  7. well I wouldnt say I have the SAME problem... as far as looking for excuses to get started on all these mods(mostly cause I dont have any $$$). but yeah my 4spd is gonna end up like yours someday, it keeps popping out of 1st real bad and I cant shift out of 4th all the time...
  8. yeah... well you will get a bit more power gain, but not really a whole lot... what you DO get is a hell of a lot smoother running engine.
  9. to each their own... typically when I hear "suspension lift" I think of lift that is produced by more spring... call it whatever you want, the body/unibody gets lifted above the engine and the rest of the drive train using solid blocks. if BODY lift doesnt work for ya, call it uni-BODY lift then anyways, except for the few people that produce lifts for subarus, the ratio of custom subaru lifts to non-custom(ie AA BYB SJR etc..) is pretty high and not all lifts are going to be done the same way, and especially with subarus because of the independant suspension and unibody there are far more options and possible ways to go about lifting/modifying than your convential body on frame truck, many of which you can't really compare. anyways, if you go bigger tires you will find that you use 5th gear less and less, and usually when you lift something, you tend to not drive it really fast on the highway even further limiting how much you use 5th. the only way you'll probably use 5th gear is if you drive around in low range all the time like me(removed rear axles for street - also welding diff soon)
  10. also how are you driving it? when are you shifting? subaru motors dont like low rpms
  11. its good for situations where you need 3 feet and one foot half on the brake half on the gas doesnt cut it.
  12. go all out with tractor tires dude. that lower rad support really bothers me... if you're good with soldering wouldnt be tooo hard to shorten it, but could be a bit of work and might not cool good enough. Other options I were considering for my case were moving it to the hood, or possibly on the roof or tailgate. SWEET bumper
  13. look at that nice big fat exhaust pipe waiting to be crushed :-D dude i like your wagon, its looks pretty sweet.
  14. ok well, its very debatable. you CAN use those rims and they will work ok for tires such as super swampers because they are generally a very narrow mud tire. Anyways they are steel so they will bend, and if you offroad you WILL bend the isht out of these rims. I considered it, but its better just to take your hubs into the machine shop and have them drilled, or do a 5 lug swap or whatever you have money for.
  15. well from what I've heard, the engine crossmember works fine, but you will bend the isht out of your radiator support from what I've heard. Probably using the bumper and/or those tow points for a mount would be a good idea, unless you can find a way to reinforce the radiator support, but I havent looked into it a whole lot, need to fix other things first. dry sump :-)
  16. and as far as subaru fitting on atv trails, that is by far, no news to any of us
  17. yeah just make sure you go back a week or so later and tighten everything back down, and threadlock/locktite is a good idea. Also I dont know exactly what bolts AA uses, but I used 1/2" grade 8 bolts, I'd LOOOVE to see someone strip one o those without pulling out the 5ft breakerbar extension... Really tight is good, but too tight is bad because if some blocks arent tied together, things will move and flex and you will be snapping bolts, like I did... but then again I also have 6" of lift.
  18. yeah not gonna work out, buncha stuff went wrong, and braking up w/ my gf tonight didnt really help my situation for tomorrow. Sunday may be an option.
  19. they didnt bring out the ea82s untill 85 last i knew
