  1. even on pavement, you should be able to peel out a bit in 2wd, in 4wd on pavement you shouldnt be able to peel out at all
  2. He was considering using a subaru transmission as an inexpensive alternative.
  3. well, its a thought, not sure if I'll ever attempt doing, but I've been toying with the idea of putting a front bench seat in my subaru. Anyone even considered such a thing before? other question, does anyone know of a split bench seat(rear) that will work in an ea81 easily?
  4. Ok well, if your only doing logging roads and such, stock is plenty good enough, might be good to get some good tires, and skidplates if you dont have any. I dont have experiance with tornado air, but from looking at it, and talking to people I think they are total BS. all I can see them possibly doing is making the air slightly more turbulent which really probably serves as more of a restriction than anything else unless your injectors are clogged or something and your not getting very good atomization. Other than that I dont have a clue in the performance dept. If you use the search function you will probably come across most answers for your questions, especially regarding injectors, exhaust and offroading. Good luck and enjoy your subaru
  5. Yes, yes I have. I have the "lightweight," "professional racing" backing plate to prove it
  6. lol, if its gonna be trailered, first thing first, DITCH THE FENDERS, dont cut them.
  7. gonna leave this to GD since he knows the area better than I do.. but yes mut, probably some deep holes(floating suby = no good), some knarly ruts so clearance may be an issue...
  8. naaah they dont suck they just too damn big... anyways stop highjacking this thread. question was about what diff could be used in the rear, NOT about solid axle vs independant probably heard this before, nissan differantials(like the r200 I think) have some after market and you can get lockers for them.
  9. you guys should organize a meet thats halfway between seattle and washington... so a few others and I could make it... I couldnt stand a 3+ hour drive in my subaru just for one day of wheeling
  10. hatchy, dont spawn multiple threads for the same problem, and this is not offroad related. The search function is your friend, there are literally thousands of posts about bad axles and such on this board, dont want to create junk that gets in the way when people actually use the search function. Anyways, it sounds like a bad axle, get under your car inspect your boots, grab the axles and see if there is any kind of play in them when you twist it. move them in and out from the car and make sure the action is smooth, if it is rough like its dry its probably a bad axle. The other thing you could check are your ujoints in your driveshaft, they dont normally go bad and they are pretty tough, grab your axle and twist and move it around and check for play in the ujoints. If you dont have the anti rattle clips on your brakes that will cause a clicking type sound too, but it wont be constant, will disappear when you are braking.
  11. Well I think you're out of luck as far as travel, axle cant handle a whole lot and I dont think you can really get much out of struts... but I dont know for sure. The ea81s had a torsion tube and I got some 32" procomp es3000s. after reclocking my torsion bar last night I have a good 12"+ of combined up and down travel. Take your anti-swaybar(s) off, that alone will help quite a bit, other than that you're gonna have to get comfortable with lifting 1 or more wheels off the ground
  12. Ok I'm going to scapoose/vernonia on saturday, stock vehicles BEWARE. I dont really want to drive more than an hour untill I can for certain get my rig SOLID for highway use. If you want to meet up tell me a good place and time, like the Fred Meyers or Safeway parking lot by 9 or something
  13. videos(more as they slowly upload... ):
  14. hey if he can wheel his outback and *not* take any major damage, a baja should be able to do the same dang uploads are sloow... gimme like 10 minutes and I'll have the rest for ya
  15. ahh I had some problems uploading my pictures anyways, here are a few gonna have some better ones up in a few, possibly with a couple videos if i can resize them
  16. yeah I got a bunch of pictures and a few videos, I dont have a way to post the videos up tho or reduce the quality, they're like 200-300mb for only 1 min 30 sec or so... I'll post up pictures in a min
  17. I wanna get some air horns off of a train... I dont think I can get a compressor powerful enough in my subaru tho... not to mention those suckers are huge and theres no way I could hide em anywhere.
  18. wow dude, for not ever using TIG before you picked it up pretty fast... I havent used that process yet but I've heard its REAL interesting when you first start and a pain in the rump roast to learn. I love your bumper, totally beats my fugly square tubing I speant maybe an hour and a half all total welding together with stick... great work [qoute=superu](in the offroad forum, The thread was hijacked for Trackers and Sidekicks, LAME!!) [hijack]sorry bout that, didnt mean to [/hijack]
  19. wow that looks great, now time to do the other gauges the same way to match nice work
  20. naaah I have a torsion tube, I got some pro comp es3000 shocks for around $30 each if I remember right from 4wheelparts

    twin A arm?

yeah my uncle used shafts similar on his toyotas... except he got them from a standard parts store and there was nothing special about them. pretty sure you can get those for a reasonable price. I doubt it'd be all that hard to manufacture something like that either.
  22. were they remanufactured axles? try a new OEM axle, those are waaay tough I hear compared to most reman'ed also what is the condition of your motor mounts and your pitch stopper? those can really tear things up. My pitch rod broke and I have a brand new axle in my passanger side and its giving me problems already because of that.
  23. you'd think you wouldnt need breakaway mirrors on an ea81... those things are tough and really they dont stick out much past the body if at all, and who cares if you break them off, they're so tiny you cant even use them
  24. bring back any pics?
  25. Its ok if they arent adjustable... I had them turned all the way down anyways.
