  1. well went back and talked to the manager and got them to match baxters price, I guess they might have taken a return but they really didnt want to ship them back to denver. Another thing, DONT order parts on sundays, it may very well be in TOWN if you wait till monday.
  2. Well closer the better, I doubt anyone wants to pay an extra $10 for the ATV permit we need to be out at tillamook for more than half the trails out there being closed right now. Last time I was out there in my jeep(01/05/2006) I got a ticket because I didnt have one, sherrif was an rump roast and I couldn't make the courtdate. I havent seen whats out a scapoose, I would love to go out there but I'm pretty much following whatever GD says on that. I also figure that up by rissan is gonna be similar to scapoose or wherever along the coast range, its the same type of terrain. either way I got a big hose and a high volume pump I can bring
  3. dude, I wouldnt drive that. I have driven some SKETCH vehicles(well ok 2) and I wouldnt be driving that. What you do when you gotta slam on the brakes? At the very LEAST get it welded up if you cant afford to ditch the car yet. You dont wanna have to hit the brakes going 55 have the wheel and strut rip off and come through the wheelwell and spin you around? Something similar happened in my uncles GMC dually once except he had no warning. he was VERY lucky there was no other traffic around because if he hit an oncoming car spinning around like that, someone was gonna go home in a body bag.
  4. ok so keeping this clean as possible(hard right now...) on sunday I ordered a pair of KYB GR-2 gas struts for my wagon, on the account I have at schucks they qouted me about 76$ each. Today I arrive, my dad goes to pick them up and they charge him $240 total and they wont take them back cause of some bs about special orders. ANYTIME you get a qoute, GET IT ON PAPER IN WRITING. I found out today that Napa can get them today for $89 a piece and Baxters can get them by 4pm for $85 each after calling around. I'm soo pissed off. :banghead: :banghead:
  5. tillamook state forest... its only about 45 minutes - 1 hour max from portland, and theres TONS of good stuff out there, although I'm looking again and many trails are closed till later this spring. SO I guess I'm in with rissan... so does april 22nd work?
  6. dude you have a friggin bad rump roast camera
  7. scrap487

    twin A arm?

i'd rather see someone put their time into developing/addapting the hummer type hubs to work... with the gear reduction
  8. at this point I'm leaning towards somewhere around tillamook actually, long beach is just a little bit far to go, map quest shows it as a 2 1/2 hour drive going up I-5 to longview to highway 30, which means its probably closer to a 3 hour drive for me cause I definately cant do 70mph on I5. TSF ohv area seems a bit far from longbeach in terms of driving but I'm really not willing to drive more than an hour and a half at the VERY most, or scapoose/vernonia/clatskanie if theres some less hardcore stuff around there stock vehicles can do. so my vote is tillamook
  9. thats real cool... now you need to make subaru emblem covers that automatically move out of the way when you turn em on, 4th and 5th eyes that actually looks pretty decent, and actually now that I think about it if you got the tools that seems to be a good way to get a LOT more light down the road for fairly cheap. thats definately unique, congrats :-)
  10. tell us more bout this place, never heard of it, but that seems to be really close by if its anywhere near mt angel, mapquest said a 50 minute drive or 39 miles roughly, what's around there? The whole idea of traveling in a sweet subi pac doesnt sound too good to me unless you all like driving 50mph on the interstate, untill I get all my blocks welded and braced up(which may or may not happen by then) I take it easy at high speeds cause it handles funny and steering is really loose.
  11. i'm having trouble finding the video
  12. eehhh let me know a specific date, and I JUUSSST might be willing to make it up there at least one time. how long a drive is it from portland edit: oh damn, that weekend :-\
  13. get an older worn engine that will definately help you get that popping.
  14. Try taking a fairly large straight through catalytic converter, hollow it out, and then put it on. Its not too good for the engine or performance to have that in there but that will cause a lotta popping when you let off the gas.
  15. Overlap is the period of time the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time. I dont see why you want your car to backfire, its bad for the motor. Are you talking about poping on decelleration? Either way, you should set your timing back to stock, it doesnt sound so much like you know a whole lot about what you want to get out of your car and you may end up losing power and probably shortening your engines life if not destroying it fairly quickly. Running rich means your using too much gas, too much to get optimal performance/economy out of your car. Running lean is the opposite, too much air, running lean is also generally worse for your engine, but both are bad.
  16. Never having done one before on a Subaru I cant say for sure, but as far as getting it to where you can work on the clutch on the itself I believe goes as follows: Unbolt intake from engine, set with all hoses and wiring still together on spare tire shelf; disconnect pitch rod, unbolt the tranny, break motor mounts loose, pull engine up and forward and then out of the car(dont know if you need to remove radiator or not). As far as I know its something that can be done in a few hours and is much easier pulling the engine rather than dropping the transmission. It's nice to have a guy help you lift the engine out of the car if you dont have a cherry picker, it can be done alone easy if you have to though.
  17. If you're gonna do that, I'd just do straight pipes How much do you care about noise? If you take the cat out your exhaust will be a bit louder. As to how it affects torque I'm not sure, I've seen several claims about how not enough back pressure will cause poorer engine performance in the lower rpm range, but I've also seen an equal amount of claims that that is a myth. I have a universal 2-1/2" cat and a cherry bomb, its pretty loud, but the clacking from my engine still drowns everything else out.
  18. any other suggestions for places then GD? I'm still up for scapoose and I'll weld up my diff if you think its absolutely neccesary. What about around estecada?
  19. you think lockers are definately needed? I guess if I need to I can weld up my rear diff this week but I'd rather not do that quite yet. I wouldn't mind scapoose cause its nearby and i dont know anything out there. Last time I was out there a year or so ago in my jeep exploring around all I could find were some logging roads and virtually everything was gated.
  20. I really doubt drilling the hubs weakens them, but in the long run its better to drill the hubs, and probably get some rear discs before you drill them(so you dont have to do it again if you have to replace the drums). If you ever mess up a wheel or want a differant sized wheel or whatever, you will have to drill them too. .
  21. gettin there, 1/4" is way to heavy, 3/16" is even a bit heavy, the rest of the bumper is 3/16" 2" square tubing, and that is waaaay beefy
  22. well, I got the subaru up to the farm today. Quite a lot of fun, especially in between tightly packed trees... although 40+mph on rocky rough potholed roads isnt the best thing for OEM struts, busted drivers side strut, didnt come apart untill I was 20 miles away from home on the freeway was wondering why steering was so loose and I pull over and look and the spring is sitting at a weird angle bent up against the firewall, the top part that holds the spring had broken off from the top of the strut, and everything was pretty chewed up. I have some pictures, will upload them later today. I also put a pretty good dent in my rear passenger fender; totally destroyed my antena; and I found out my bumper is pretty darn sturdy, I hit a tree and put a pretty good dent in a piece of 2"x3/16" flat bar, everything else held up which is good. This thing totally blew my mind how well it did on some trails and in the trees off the trails and everything(on my farm), went places my nissan had gotten stuck in, and that were too narrow and off camber for my jeep(before I sold it)... and the turning radius kicks major rump roast Trying to get a few people together to go wheeling in a couple weeks, sorry for pickin a date thats a little short notice but it wont be the only time if you cant go. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=55434
  23. Right on dude, I wish you had messaged me earlier, I dont know mt hood backroads n stuff as well as I would like so I never go out that way to go wheeling. My farm is 14 miles outside of whitesalmon, about 3 miles off Snowden road on Statts road. I went up there today and play on some of the logging roads up there and up in the trees, I was amazed at how easily this thing drove between densly packed trees, stuff my nissan or my jeep could never have done. Busted a strut today too testing the waters and stuff for my dads nice truck on our way to go look at a peice of land for sale in the middle of nowhere, was rattling around and finally completely came apart about a mile after rooster rock. Posting so late/early cause I just got dropped off by the tow truck bout half an hour ago I should be up and running again by tomorrow evening
  24. near hear pretty much means around hour to hour and a half drive from portland, tillamook is about 45 minutes depending on traffic, longview is also about 45 minutes, not sure about long beach, but I've been on some smaller trails off logging roads up around clatskinie(sp?), not sure if thats similar to what you're talking about. I had my subaru up at our farm, about a 2 hour drive from portland. Or hour and a half up the "back way," which is trecherously steep muddy rutted with straight drop off cliff oneside and straight up the other, was a lot of fun playin around up there today. Got some work done as well, but I also completely destroyed the drivers side strut, it was rattling around alot untill I got back to the freeway, and then it completely came apart when I pulled over cause my steering was incredibly loose; should be up and running tomorrow. So, sounds like 2 people possibly 3, potentially more. Ideas for location include Scapoose Tillamook Longbeach ...where else sounds good? I dont mind a 2hour drive, but the shorter the drive the more likely my car will make it
  25. ahhh need more notice. OK, does any time between 4/21-4/23 work for anyone? It's actually my b-day that weekend but I'd rather get out in my subaru after months of hard labor and many dollars spent on it.. tally about $1200 this month alone, although most of that was tires, carburetor, exhaust(sounds like a v8 now...), and misc parts. But anyways, I wanna get it out and break it in and have some buddies to tow me out if I break it.... something near by would be good, such as tillamook or somewhere in the coast range or scapoose, something further away is also good if a few people are interested in campin out overnight.
