  1. I dont know about GMC trucks, but my jeeps airfilter box inlet came all the way to the front, and was on the side of the grill halfway down, if the gmc is anything like that its gonna suck water in way easy. I had my jeep down in california shortly after I got my jeep and I was crossing a stream to get to a beach, it was deeper than I thought it was, but it only came about up to the bumper, but it sucked water right on the approach and I immediately shut it off... fortunately I had enough momentum to get far enough to get the nose out of the water. Other than jeeps being POS, that right there was one of the worst things about my jeep, I never really took it through many water crossings after that. Maybe his GMC was setup the same way? as for a snorkle, I think the best way is have it facing down and to the back if you want it to stay dry, although creating a scoop for it facing forward might feature some kind of gain :-)
  2. screw the rectangle ones, get the 100watt round pair for 16$, trust me they are tons better, or get the 100w round KC wallmart knockoffs for $10ea
  3. those lights look pretty good like that... but do they work worth a damn? those look too small to put out any real kinda light. nice looking rack, didnt turn out too bad at all for stick. Trick with using smaw on smaller stuff is to use backing material.
  4. is your brat lifted at all? I got a massive coolant leak I THOUGHT was the intake gasket but I just totally took it apart, cleaned it, put it back together with fresh gaskets and sealent(for the second time) and its still leaking. I'm afraid it might be the headgasket but its coming from right underneath the intake manifold. the nice thing though, is if I have to replace the headgasket, with 6" of lift it is super easy access and should pull right out. Good luck!
  5. subaru? PRERUNNER? yeah, right... I dont know if it'd be tough enough, but I'd love to see someone manage to get 12+ inches of travel out of the front of one of these things.
  6. A subaru doesnt weigh much more and I'm pretty sure a justy is under 2000lbs. Weight doesnt have a whole lot to do with it, once you get going and are cruising at a constant speed weight shouldnt really affect your economy. Add a couple friends some luggage to any car, you aint gonna near as you had before. Anyways, it'd make a cool project, I'm gonna build a bike later this spring. As for advantages over electric hybrids, battery technology is decades behind modern electronics/technology, they're coming out with new and better stuff but in reality theres still a lot of work to be done to get something truly economical.
  7. thats a cool idea, if i had time money and place to work I'd consider doing something like that, but definately not with a subaru engine, because according to that first article(have yet to read the second) when they built their first vehicle using a 60hp vw engine the actual gas milage went down because it was too much power. if i read it right, it works essentially like steam engines worked, except instead of heating up water to create pressure you are using a motor attached to a pump. I've also seen similar stuff done with compressed air. also if you did build that, I think using a RWD car would be easier.... and possibly any chance for real smokey burnouts>
  8. I havent seen one modified like wagons have been modified, I wouldnt do that to an xt6 anyways, and I got my wagon.
  9. anyone have an xt6 they wanna sell me for $500?
  10. thats the best subaru video I've seen so far... its pretty awesome
  11. no, use a tcase off of a nissan 720 4x4(made 1980-1985 before they went to something else), its a divorced tranfercase and the shaft that goes between tcase and transmission I've heard bolts right up, I believe you can use the nissan front and rear driveshafts as well but I'm not so sure about that, althougth the flanges do bolt right up.
  12. cool... shoot me a pm when you're ready to sell it, I'm looking for a backup soob.
  13. well, I started up my car, ran pretty much like a beast, but my catalytic converter I'm sure is toasted. was glowing bright orange, almost white, after i drove it up to the parts store and back today, its also the low point in my exaust because the shop I took it to tucked as much of it as they could near the body. When I took my intake manifold off to clean it up, I didnt drain the coolant first so a good amount of it ended up in the cylinders and I'm sure most of that made it in to the cat, and I figured it'd just all blow/burn out after a couple minutes of running and thought nothing off it. My question is, is it likely my cat was done for before that, or would a bunch of coolant in it destroy it? oh and another thing(unrelated), I ended up with a intake manifold gasket leaking on the passenger side, it drips a little bit which eventually makes it to the ground and it burns just a tiny amount but not a whole lot, how high up on the list of things to do should I put this?
  14. how much you thinking bout selling your wagon for?
  15. yeah... your's is done a lot better than mine, I didnt bother masking or anything, just cleaned it up best I could and sprayed in the general direction of the block I did take time doing the intake manifold and thermostat housing and alternator tho since I took them off. Its gonna get dirty really quick
  16. I can't tell you what you are looking for, but I can tell you that information on models from 1984 and earlier will not help you as those cars had a differant suspension.
  17. ok I got it about halfway done, carb is mounted, distributor is in, all I have to do now is clean up the wiring mess for my fuel pump, hook up the fuel lines and linkages and figure out how the automatic choke is supposed to be installed and I should be pretty darned happy... gonna save all the noisy stuff for tomorrow when my neighbors wont complain bout it -.- before I bolted carb down and got disty in:
  18. ok its here... too late to install, but I am looking through the kit and I dont see a plate to block off the egr port in the intake manifold like they said would be in it, I really dont want to fab one up cause anything I make will be ugly but...... bleh, I guess since I plugged the holes for the egr pipe I could always put the valve back on but I'd rather have a cleaner smaller lighter plate.
  19. my WAGON went 85 and its at least 500lb heavier I think? for a 4 speed thats not too bad, with a 5 speed I bet it could make it to a hundred although I wont take it any faster than 55 untill I stiffen up my suspension a little in the front er... hatches came with ea81 or ea71?
  20. either way, its going to a wrecking yard now
  21. I'll try, although some of the work is already done and I'm not sure what and what not was needed for a weber. I cant wait any longer damnit!!! when's the brown santa gonna show up, I got everything set up and ready to go
  22. man... I feel like a lil kid... "are we there yet? are we there yet? aww comon are we there yet?" except its more like, "is it here yet?" I was sleepin this morning, and someone knocks on the door real loud and no one else is awake thats home so I jump up and get dressed super fast rush downstairs and... its my aunt, shes really cool and I havent seen her in a while but all the same... :-(
