  1. 31x13.50 would be hard to fit. 30x11.50s might fit but steering would still kinda suck.
  2. its settled out a little bit, but its still kinda bad. I can drive it. I dont have an exhausts on it yet, so I havent be willing to take it to far from my house cause I dont want to get pulled over. sure beats my neighbors alarm clocks in the morning
  3. ok everything is back together, steering is perfect... rubbing is a little worse than I first thought. I either need to get an automated BFH, or go with smaller size tires, cause I can only swing my 5lb sledge so much with its 10" handle. here are some day time pictures...
  4. I gotta take that back... its a LOT of pounding... blah, well I've gotten my turning radius down to about 30 feet, got bunch more pounding to go to make it back to the stock 15 or 17 or whatever it is. ..
  5. hey, hammers are good for something? i said it was needed lol...
  6. 31s will fit easy i have the right rims for them, only tool you need is a bfh, and actually I think my school has one of those air hammers if you have been following the build of my subaru, the tires I have on there now are 31x10.50, 31x11.50 swampers WILL fit with the use of a hammer. there wont be any issue of it rubbing on the strut. also as far as gearing goes, is a 4 speed d/r, and i've driven my soob around a little bit, and I havent had any problems. I dont think the 31x11.50 will rub on the struts, but if they do my wheel studs are long enough I can safely put a big enough spacer in there to take care of the problem. btw, 108$ for a 31x11.50x15 LTB sure beats 143$ for a 30x10.50x15 tsl. if I need to do more work to make it fit, its worth the saved money for me.
  7. yeah... bias tsls are strong than the ssrs... personally I'm gonna go with the LTBs :-)
  8. havent done any trimming in the rear, although I drove it around the block a few times today with no exhaust... SWEET  the biggest problem is I need to take my bfh to the floorboards in the front, it rubs kinda bad there, steering got stuck trying to turn into coffee shop parking lot and I had to jack the front up, use a wrecking bar, deflate the tire a little bit and have someone help me wiggle it out. also if you got a lot of weight in the back, theres this little tab in the front of the back wheel well that will rub on the tire, gotta take my hammer to that. other than that there isnt much rubbing. btw if I put swampers on there now, I wouldnt need to use my bfh and sawzall, theyd rip all 4 of my fenders off in probably about 20 feet(I want to get 31x11.50x15 LTBs). another problem i'm h aving is getting the steering tightened down, whenever I tighten it it forces the rod out of the coupling a little bit, and then when I turn the wheel it will jump and click and not actually turn unless I'm moving.
  9. btw, 6" lift, 31x10.50x15" tires, nissan pathfinder rims. perfect fit, could go taller w/ same width but would have to pound out floorboards ALOT. by perfect fit, some easy trimming required of front fenders, absolutely NO rubbing on the struts, with about an inch of room to spare. no trimming in back required. all that is left for me to do is get my exhaust together, finish putting my steering back together, bleed my brakes, hit the gas and dump the clutch...(and finish off my bad half shafts...) enjoy. hope to see you all on saturday.
  10. yeah, so its dry out, so I got some more work done.. hubs back from the machine shop drilled this time, so all the lugnuts are on and tightened down :-) I have yet to take it around the block due to my exhaust problems.
  11. alright.. good news, hubs were done today, the machinist there was kinda interested in my project and pushed them ahead... I might be able to make it, but I wont have good tires for about a month cause I dont have any money($320 to get my hubs drilled ). so I got 2 semi decent wildcat a/t, another with good tread but loses air, and another that has a really bad wear on one side of the tread... but if a stock wagon can go over it I'm sure I can with these... how many of you got radios?
  12. it might cost more initially, but I suggest converting to 6 lug, in the long run if you plan on keeping your car that long it makes things easier whenever you need to replace a wheel or anything like that. more sizes available too if you ever want to go bigger.
  13. I'm thinking I might go out there friday night for a little test run before the trail run on saturday
  14. oh also, there is tillamook state forest OHV area or whatever its called, I think its about a 45 minute to an hour drive from portland, there are some sweet trails out there, but you gotta buy an atv permit($10.50). I got a ticket out there for not having one a few weeks ago, $147...
  15. theres a mud pit right in the middle of portland... I'm not sure about the legality of everything but its a pretty popular spot and I"ve never heard of anyone having trouble with anyone out there... anyone know where the old race track is out by portland meadows? thats what I'm talking about. its REALLY muddy, can be a lot of fun, but you also need to be careful cause its really easy to flip out there. I have had a few friends roll their rigs out there more than once doing stupid crap.
  16. ugh... I'm gonna be hard pressed getting my subaru to run, my hubs are supposed to be in the machine shop till bout thursday or friday meaning I cant fix my allignment and camber till the weekend. I have some junk tires I can drive on but ugh....
  17. I dont have experiance running on the spare tire rims, but I know of some people who do, and they dont have any problems with them. a spare tire rim will work for as long as you want it to, they are designed so they can get you home or to a tire shop or wherever safely, and if they can do that, the length of time that you run them isnt going to matter. they ARE however not as strong as the stock rims, and they will dent and stuff more easily but odds are you are not gonna get stranded cause of it unless you were doing something extreme to start off with. I can't and won't say you should run with spare tire rims, only because I dont want to run the risk of feeling responsible for anything wrong that should happen, so run them at your own risk. Albie out at AA runs the spare rims with 29" swampers and he abuses the hell out of them.. one of them is bent, but it still drives fine.
  18. oh yeah dont worry I've thought about what to do for on board air, build a couple storage tanks and then run a compressor off of the drive belt where the ac would go, hell maybe even the ac compressor would work. since I have oversize tires, I would most likely fit some kind of tank where the spare tire originally went under the hood, along with keep my tools under there, and then run a hose or something to a spool of hose next to where I would have my winch, and also keep hose wound up in a spool in the back where the spare tire jack and window washer fluid is and run the air to that also. I also want to rig up an onboard combo stick/wire feed welder but i dunno if the car can put out enough power for that, and if I could find space for the welder, and c25, and if it could handle that much more weight.
  19. yeah, I plan on keeping my back seat cause I will be hauling people around occasionally, along with all my gear and stuff. whether I put a bigger tank or not in the back, the suspension needs to be beefed up regardless cause it will be taking more abuse and hauling more weight. anyways, fuel cell idea works great for some, but for me its about making the most of the space I have, that and I'm used to my nissan with its 60 gallon capacity.. although something I want to do is find a split bench like 60/40 that will fit in the back, or just find a couple bucket seats that will fit in the back so I can take out the bench and free up a little more room.
  20. yeah, I said you'd have to beef up the suspension a little bit. anyways, even making something that goes all the way across the frame that is a little bit flatter, but anyways, why you all runnin around bangin your crap up with out skid plates n stuff?
  21. ok, after putting in my 6" lift, my fuel tank looks TINY... anyone ever try to put a bigger tank under there? or maybe make one? might need to beef up the rear suspension a little bit, but itd be way cool to have a subaru with a 30-50+ gallon gas tank... especially for those extended multi-day trail runs, beats having to carry gas cans around. it also be nice to know I can make it out of country on one tank of gas I was either thinking of making a larger gas tank, or making a differant shaped one and make room to fit a spare tire under there. there really is QUITE a lot of room underneath the bottom of the subaru where you could stuff all kinds of stuff without having to worry bout angles and clearance. then again, theres always the idea of stuffing some pontoons underneath there so I can go fording the bigger rivers n stuff
