  1. There's an 84 wagon down the street for sale for under 500 bucks. Guy claims it runs fine, has a good body, but has intermittant started issues. for 80 bucks I can put a new starter in it (unless the wiring is bad?). Its a 5 speed, 4x4, and he claims there aren't any major probs. 180K miles. Should I buy it? Anythign in particular to look at? Thanks, Jordan
  2. Thats because a sube dealer shop has never seen the inside of a tranny. They just replace them.... "Sorry, its a non-servicable transmission" .
  3. The left head is different? Never heard of that. 400 bucks for a 1996 EJ22 with that many miles sounds good to me. Jordan
  4. There's a weird metal container behind the passenger rear wheel well on my 93 legacy wagon. Its not black or checkered, but bare metal. What the heck is it? I found it when trying to replace my speakers (it actually gets in the way of the new speakers, so I'm going to have to find different ones.... ) http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewforum.php?f=19&sid=5e0c4e16328b6a0ee7fdebacbe8bfbf0 Jordan
  5. er.... good point. That will be my test from now on. "Yes sir, I'll pay 300 for brake pads. I want you to stand in the street, and I'll come around that corner at about 60. Don't move, I want you to just stand there, and we'll see how well it worked."
  6. Ain't nothing wrong with Les Schwab... or Smart. I'm a big Les Schwab fan, and like you have always had a good experience. They also stand strong behind their work. Jordan
  7. Anyone know of a timing belt "how to" site? I've been told its not too tough, but then again, I'm kind of a retard. Jordan
  8. Nokian Hakkapolitas (sic) are what I used to run, and they are the ************. I still have them in my garage, but haven't put them on my recently acquired legacy wagon because the thing doesn't need them. I imagine if I did put them on it, it would be more like a snomobile than a car.
  9. Anyone know of a good place (with good prices) to buy subie parts? I only prefer west coast because shipping time is less, so I will consider other areas too if its worth it. Thanks, Jordan
  10. Legacy, thanks for the reply. I tried the old "change the tranny fluid", having it flushed about 5k ago, no noticable difference. I fear the worst (tranny rebuild) but thought maybe it could be something much more simple (bad mount, computer glitch, etc.). Perhaps taking it to a tranny shop would be in order? Thanks again, Jordan
  11. Hi everyone. This board is a great resource, thanks to all that contribute. I have a non-turbo 1993 legacy wagon with an auto tranny. 136,000 miles. Recently, when turning corners and accelerating I have noticed that the transmission seems to hesitate and then shifts into lower gear with a lot of force. Kind of throws me back in the seat, like its slamming into gear. At the end of this month, I'm planning on a 4,000 mile road trip, and I'm not sure if the transmission issue should affect my decision to go. Assuming I can go, what sorts of things will I want to do preventive maintence on before embarking on my trip? I've only owned the car about a year. I'm OK with a wrench, but I'm no mechanic. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Jordan
