Okay, I'm going to the yard to pull off the valance body peice under the bumper (had a battle w/ pile of rocks and lost:-\ ) and a turn signal assembly. I already know that they have it, was there ther other day and didnt have a long enough extension to pull off valance. Anywho, I was wondering what else I should look for. I was thinking about trying to find a BOV, but I don't remember what car to pull them off of, or what that car would look like. Is there any other performance enhancing/gas saving parts that I could look for? or does anyone local want me to look for something in particular? There was something else I was going to ask, but now I can't remember, so when I do, I'll repost. Thanks,

Mufflers, Cats and Welders oh my!
theDirtyRue replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
How hard/easy is it to gut a cat? I'm running a glasspack for a muffler after no muffler for a while, and i saw a pretty big loss in the power. Anything else thats an EASY fix for better fuel efficency? I drive a lot and i dont make very much:( . Thanks, -
I wish you the best luck as well. Heck, i might even be calling you for some things. I've got two jobs now, so, I'm actually making money that i can spend! Now I can finally get to my poor, somewhat neglected car (neglected only b/c i couldn't afford all of its needs!! ) Anywho, Good luck with the business. There are a LOT of subarus over here, if you just do good work, the word will spread. Have fun,

replacing/repairing power window motors
theDirtyRue replied to theDirtyRue's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks, I'll give them a call tommorow. I figured that it probably would be best to replace them, but they sound like a great option. So how about getting to them? Is it something simple or complex? I don't want to just go tearing things apart and possibly rip or cut a wire somewhere. Anyone know the best way to get at these little motors? Thanks -
Okay, i know that this question has been asked many times before tonight; but it has never been archived and i didnt see it in the first ten pages or so. I havent been on the board for about 7 months now, so i don't know if it has come up recently. If it has, and someone could direct me to the thread, that would be greatly apprecaited. Okay, So, With my trip computer being where it is, I have a feeling it will have to move. I'd rather not move it, but o well if I have to. What else? I think I remember that the speakers are coaxial, not two-way, so with a higher powered deck, I'll need to rewire, right? How big of a pain in the A** is that? I don't want any wires showing in the end. Now, I've never installed a "system", so I really don't know what to expect, but I can't imagine its very hard. I've got some 8" subs to put in and I'll have a 600 watt amp pushing them, I'm thinking this whould be the easiest part, just running wire to the right spot and under the carpet, am I wrong? OR... Is this such a pain that I should just pay someone to do it? I'd much rather not, but if that is the best option, how much should i expect to pay? I'm really skeptical of putting a lot of unnesscary money into this car as I'm not sure I'll have it in a few months. But i figure that since i have all the stuff, i might as well try and get it all installed. Any and all suggestions are extremely appreciated!! Okay, now I was thinking about this the other day. I guess my first question is, can a car cd player be installed vertically? B/c if it can, I thought that a cool spot for one ony my car would be in the little cubby right behind the e-brake lever. It looks like, with a little cutting, that it might fit. then I wouldn't have to mess with the dash. Thanks

A couple of things come to MY mind (which has been wrong in the past, so get the second opinion!!) One thing is that you may have an exhaust leak in the pipe that pushes the exhaus gases into the turbo. This could be why youre not getting the boost you used to. The other thought is what you said, MAYBE the turbo is getting tired(If they do that...???). Anyway, If you DO decide to replace the turbo, gop to a local junkyard and get yourself another one. I know someone on the board has put a 2.2 turbo from a legacy into their car. It was an ea82T though, so I'm not sure if that will fit or if you even want that in your car. Well, good luck with it, and if you figure it out, let us know! Thanks,

front end problems, need some help/ideas...
theDirtyRue replied to theDirtyRue's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks to both of you. I know that i am very lucky. No one was hurt and i thank God for that. The only damage incurred is to my own property, no mailboxes or anything like that. -
So, while i was on the way home from work a few days ago, i blacked out. I ran off the road and jumped two driveways. Both driveways had large rocks on the sides of them. (I'm fine, and no, i was not under the influence) Anyways, i thought the damage was minimal, but when i went out to check it out yesterday, i noticed the passenger tire is out of alignment (the top of the tire is pointing into the engine) My dad thinks that my strut is shot. Is he right or do i just need an alignment? I cant tell if the drivers sie is bad too, I only have the spare on it. The hood will no longer close, I dont think that its bent. I also need to replace the front sway bar and the drivers side bushings for it. Other then that, my oil pan is dented up and the body under the bumper is thrashed, but thats about it. Thanks in Advance,

Or, you can take it into a napa or shucks or some place like that and they will do it for free. If you dont want to take it out, just drive your car to a Les schwab tire store, or some other place that does a full charging system test.

I want something that will last, and wont cost me an arm and a leg. Napa and shucks each want about $150 (shucks has a lifetime warranty, napa a 12month, 15k mi). Importedcarparts.com wants less $80 for it with the seals and shipping, but no warranty. Where is the best place to get one? What one is worth the money? (ALL of these are expensive to me, its just a matter of one is more expensive then the other!!) Any advice is helpful!! Thanks,

Slightly OT: Salt In Washington (the state)
theDirtyRue replied to the_bard's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
General Disorder, I have to disagree about the statement that there arent any large bodies of salt water around here. If you live up in the Seattle Tacoma area, you have the puget sound, if youre over on the coast, youve got the great Pacific. I think that the NW Could use salt, but it would cost too much and wouldnt be worth it. Unless you are in the mountains, then there really isnt a need for it. As some thoer people have said, it only snows a few times a year over there, so no point in spending lots of money on snow/ice control. ( this is also why the whole city nearly closes down after an inch and a half of snow. Over here, we could have 12 inches and ti'd be just like any other day!) Just saying, -
I think that it looks awesome. I'd be more than willing to fork over the money if/when i have i enough. The only thing i think it is lacking is a place to mount offroad lights. Maybe something could be rigged up to go into the hitch mounts for lights, like a bar of them, and have them abel to disconnect, like trailer lights somehow...? I dunno, just rambling i guess. Still, I think it looks awesome! So does your rig, with the lift and everything! Good luck with it.

theDirtyRue replied to DerFahrer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Okay, I don't know about all of your questions, but here it goes, To engage the 4WD (NOT AWD!! Maybe your XT is fulltime 4WD, not sure), Push in the clutch and press the button. It is shift on the fly, but I personally have never shifted into it at any speed above 5 mph. Shifting into it at 70, although not the best idea is possible (i think, don't hold me to it) as long as you are on dirt, snow, gravel (again not the best idea to be going 70 on any of those surfaces:eek: ) IF your car is fulltime 4WD, then you could shift in a turn, but i dont see the point unless you're wheelin. (Again, not positive, Don't hold me to it) An XT is an ea82. Engine wise, it is pretty reliable. Be sure to replace timing belts every 60k or so. Thats a biggie. A lot of people run into bad radiators due to the age of the car and all the crap built up in them. Usually the best idea is to replace it, and not waste money on trying to flush it, just spend the money (ifn it needs one). Some other problems i can think of are the lifters ticking. This isn't a horrible problem, more like a very annoying one. Couple of ways to "fix" this, is to mix in a heavier oil with some Marvel mystery oil. If that doesnt work, then you might need a new oil pump or you just might need to reseal your current oil pump...(difference of about $100) I don' have an XT (at least not yet, anyway;) ), But i do have an Ea 82 wagon (an 87) and can say that it is an awesome car and i have a BLAST in it. Thanks,
