  1. Try asking in the historic forum. You'll find nothing but people with Gen 2 or Gen 3 cars here (Okay, so the Gen 1 owners post here too )
  2. Dorothy is leaking out of the p/s axle stub on the trans. What's involved in fixing this? Its a pushbutton 4wd turbo trans.
  3. If you can wait in a couple weeks, we may be sending my brother's rotted out 3 door to the crusher. Engine has 240k on it, but it still runs brand new. But it isn't running atm either. Would need to make sure it isn't the long block.
  4. The non turbo pulley is probably about a pound or two lighter. Putting one in each hand, there is a significant difference in weight. As for hub height differences, that only deals with what kind of A/C setup the car has.
  5. Everything you hear now is purely speculative as FHI has really yet to release any specifications on it. As for sharing an EJ20 block, I highly doubt it. Examine the pictures, there is SO much different there.
  6. Your brat is an EA81. You want an EA82 5spd. Stick with non-Turbo, and your axles are fine as is. Legacies are different animals. Search for a 5spd D/R swap. There's an article in the USRM on it. Read the article in the USRM, then contact bratsrus1 (Jerry) and get your crossmember and shifter linkage modified. This way you don't have to bash the tunnel.
  7. A TPS registering full throttle triggers the fuel cutoff during cranking. In case the engine is flooded. Dumb question: You checked timing belts right? Also, I thought this was the engine that dropped a valve or something?
  8. There's no way to tell until it gets released. Also, if you look at the designs for the motor, the Turbo sits below the engine. Custom crossmember maybe? Only time will tell.
  9. To a board member? $500. Someone else? Probably a bit more. As GD said, the 1600 s/r isn't very desirable amongst the Subaru board folks. Though to the rest of the world, it may be worth a bit more. (not much though)
  10. Does the tachometer separate from the rest of the cluster? I'm sure a tach would be cheaper than a whole gauge cluster.
  11. I'm assuming where he has his location listed, Australia
  12. Its not the point of whether or not I need it. I want it. I like to be able to verify that the fast idle is working when I first start it up. I like to have everything on my dash functioning properly. I don't like to see a needle pointing to 0. Also, mine doesn't always pick back up. On a 10 minute drive to work, it usually hasn't started working again. Kinda bugs me. But since it doesn't sound like there really is an easy fix, I'll live with it.
  13. I wanna see a picture of these Desert Fox decals. I might be interested.
  14. EA82 will physically fit in an EA81 chassis pretty easily. Converting to a turbo though, is a lot of work. You need: EA82 Turbo Motor Turbo and associated exhaust Wiring, ECU A crossmember from an EA81T so the exhaust can clear it.
  15. The plastic cover that the shift boot goes into pops off. Lift up on it, and you should see where it'll come off. It'll be easier to figure out how the boot pops back on with the shift console off.
  16. I'd be interested in a set of vinyls. I like the mountain grizzly ones. If we could get some reproduced and possibly lengthened for a wagon, I'd be a happy panda.
  17. Your 87,88 and 89 FSMs do NOT cover XTs. In 87 and after, the XT has its own FSM
  18. Curious, what year/type of legacy did you try it from? And you sure you used FWD EA81 axles and not 4WD EA81 axles? There's a thread somewhere on this forum referencing the use of Legacy DOJs, and quite a few people saying: "Yeah, it worked!" The 4WD EA81 axles are about like 2mm larger in diameter. Would explain why they didn't work. MWE is definitely not a bad deal. If I ever decide to put a turbo tranny in my EA81T wagon, I'd definitely have MWE make me some.
  19. None really. Loyale was just a name change for the product line. Except for certain 90 turbo models, the Loyale came as SPFI only with a choice of FWD or S/R 4WD. No D/R.
  20. No. ALL EA-81s have 23 spline DOJs. Also, you don't need NKN axles or anything special like that to put 25 spline DOJs on your EA81 axles. FWD axles and early legacy/EA82 DOJs will combine to make one. Also, the guy at MWE Axles quoted me $85+shipping+core to have them done. Give him an e-mail.
  21. Never doubted you that it was a 4EAT. The fact that it is physically bigger is a dead give away right there. Should be plenty of 5spd FWDs available in the Junkyards. They made FWD soobs all the way until 1994. That gives you any FWD 5spd from a GL/Loyale from 1985 to 1994 that will fit.
  22. The fact that it starts up sometimes means that your firing order is probably A-OK. Is all you did change spark plugs and wires? Verify that you didn't knock any hoses loose or electrical connector. Is the Check Engine light on when the car starts?
  23. Never say never. XT and XT6 had FWD 4EAT. And it would also have been available on EJs.
  24. Anyone ever consider that maybe Subaru didn't build the clocks, but some third party did? Perhaps that would explain why its constantly broken unlike the rest of our Soobs
  25. In 88 (or was it 87?) there was a change to the transmission tunnel to fit the 4EAT under the car. The 4EAT is significantly larger than the 3AT. If you could physically fit it under you 85, you still need the TCU and wiring harness for the 4EAT as well as the shifter console and stuff. A 5MT conversion would actually be easier :-\
