what does usmb.org have to do with anything? -
Newest member of my Subaru collection... PICS!
mikeshoup replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Quit your complaining. Just move to Colorado and be happy, and you'll find the SPFI D/R wagon you wanted for $200 with just some minor rust. BTW, these just don't pop up all the time. You do have to keep your eyes peeled. A kid I know at school was tinkering with his Subaru in the parking lot after class one day. I walked over, asked him what was wrong. He said, "Nothing, want to buy it for $200?". I had no use for it, but I figured out why he was trying to sell it. He couldn't get it started. We played with it in the parking lot, wiggled the wires on the CTS, and he got it started. -
Distributor questions EA82T
mikeshoup replied to Frank B's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Not entirely true. 85-86 Turbo distys (maybe MPFIs too) have vac advances, and a magnetic pickup, not the optical pickup with computer controlled advance. -
I noticed that too, the Gen 3 soobs were made since 1981 in Japan, but only came to the US in 1985 (and other places?). I wish Subaru of America and other Subaru websites had as detailed a timeline as Subaru Global's is.
-
Anyone have decent pictures that they took themselves or are not copyrighted of a Gen 1 Leone and a Gen 2 Leone? I'm using a picture of a German Sedan for the EA82/Gen 3 that was already on Wikimedia Commons, and is a decent picture.

I'm currently in the process of rewriting the article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Leone Feel free to edit as you wish. There currently is a whole lot missing. If you add to it, please try to find reliable sources. Whether it be from a book, or a reliable website. One of the wikipedia policies is "Its better to have no information, and incorrect or misleading information". I will get back to it later tonight.

Its been posted before... And I still think its blech.
-
http://www.subaru-global.com/history.html Posted it a little earlier in the thread. Its a timeline.
-
Japan ever see the BRAT? Also, according to that timeline, Japan saw our EA82 style in 1981. We didn't see it until 1985!
-
They have the Leone back to 1971 as a replacement to the FF-1
-
Where all was the BRAT released? US, Australia, NZ, and?
-
I'll agree there. Ther BRAT probably should be included. Now what I'm finding odd, http://www.subaru-global.com/history.html makes no mention of the BRAT. That is the Subaru Global history website.

You mean like Subaru? Subaru - Pre-Legacy unfortunately would not really follow the wikipedia naming convention format. I'm still rather insisten on using the Subaru Leone name, because the Leone is what the majority of the world sees these cars as. As I said previously, I don't think the article should cover all pre-legacy stuff. As similar as many of the cars are to the Leone, they are still different. The BRATs, XTs, 360s, 1000s, FF-1s, etc, they are not Leones, even though they are similar. From what I can tell, the Leone line has always been sort of a middle of the road line. Its pretty much always been a Coupe, Sedan and Wagon. The (only?) exception to this is the Gen 2 hatchback.
-
The biggest problem with making articles at the splits, what would you call them? I think the idea of a disambiguation page for the Subaru Leone would be good, but I can't think of anything to call the subsequent articles.
-
GD: That's actually the point of merging it all into the Leone Article. The US was the only country never too see a car badged "Leone", however, its the same model line. You'll notice, the Loyale article tries to cover the EA82 generation, and the GL article covers both the gen2 and EA82 generation, and the Leone article tries to cover everything. Since the Leone is basically everything, it should cover everything. Unless, someone can come up with a good way of splitting and naming the Leone into their respective generations. The subaru global website has a good history timeline on these cars. Does a pretty good job of describing when the cars were released. Also, a Leone article would not cover a BRAT/Brumby, a 1000, an FF-1, an Alcyone/XT, etc. Just what was branded the Leone, and what it came to the US as.

I noticed the other day, there were three wikipedia articles for the same car. I proposed on the articles, a merger. Basically, I proposed to merge the Subaru Loyale and Subaru GL article into the Subaru Leone article. Since they are all essentially the same car, this makes sense. In the Subaru Leone article, I want to worry less about specifications, and get more the three distinct generations right, and some of the options available as well as the years the different models were introduced. If you're an avid Wikipedia user, feel free to comment on the discussion page. Otherwise, post here your thoughts. I would also like a description of the different generations, and any credible sources you have for some of this stuff.

I may have to try something like that. Though, I'm more interested in just replacing the rear end carpet of the wagon with something that will be easy to remove and clean. IE: a rubber pad.
-
The rear carpet in my wagon is all stained, always has been. Its kinda ugly. I was contemplating removing, and laying something down over top of the metal, like a rubber mat or something. What has other people done?

Removing a loyale shift knob
mikeshoup replied to Numbchux's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Its got a drift pin or two in it. Gonna have to pound it out with something. -
What's the code that it throws when it does that?

How much would you pay for a catless EA82 Y-pipe?
mikeshoup replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you could make the Y-Pipe without cat, then a mid-pipe replacement with a high performance cat... Unfortunately I can't delete the cats completely in my area. -
Shopping for a fan for my EJ22 conversion
mikeshoup replied to Subarutex's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
The trouble is finding fans that fit between the engine and the radiator in an EA car when you drop an EJ in. The EJ is a bit longer. I don't think the stock legacy fans will fit. -
I just place the drink behind the 4WD select lever and next to the parking brake (this is an EA82 btw). It holds things just fine

SPFI retrofit electrical questions
mikeshoup replied to bgd73's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Regardless of what you feel about it, the EGR is a good thing when working properly. Both my XT and Wagon have a properly working EGR, and I get no exhaust fumes, etc in the cabin. And it makes sense to have one when it works. Introduce a non-combustible, inert gas into the comubstion chamber. It has a cooling effect. A 1993 supplement FSM will probably contain additional material to that year's FSM. Though, it may contain additional material for the previous years' FSMs. I dunno. IE: The 1985 XT supplement I have is an addition to the 1985 FSMs. -
At 14-18lbs you're not going to have problems with the bottom end... you're going to have problems keeping those head gaskets in check.
