  1. Should just be able to swap out the long block, and bolt the stock intake manifold from your 99 to it. No need to swap out computers.
  2. Should we discuss who had a hole through the top of his engine? At least their's made it to the dragon.
  3. When I pulled my driveshaft, not a whole lot came out. It was more of a drip really. It also helped I had the back end up in the air. Jack up the back of the car when you do it. Makes it easier to get under, and it keeps gear oil toward the front of the tranny.
  4. You need an XT hood scoop. I wanna see one of these on a wagon.
  5. Spark Plugs, just plain old NGK Coppers work the best. Wires, I use any regular brand of wires. Majority out there are of the same quality. If you want to spend money, get Magnecor. Those ARE the best. Cap, rotor, just get whatever's available. They're all built the same. None of this will gain you any performance. It will allow to use power that you lost though from using old stuff.
  6. Unbolt it. Which fan we talking about here? The electric one, or the crank driven fan attached to the water pump? Electric fan bolts to the radiator. Has four bolts. Two on top, two on bottom. Unbolt it, then unplug the wiring connector. For crank fan, first remove the shrould. Has four bolts, two on top, two on bottom. Then unbolt the fan from the water pump, four nuts there. You can fit a wrench of the fan clutch shaft to keep the pump from spinning so you can break the nuts free.
  7. Weekends only for me. I start school tuesday. The earliest possible, the better. Early-Mid September would be good. Weekend of the 2-3, or 9-10?
  8. Get an OEM thermostat. They have much higher reliability, and last longer. The thermostat is located on the front p/s of the engine. Follow the upper rad hose back to where it goes into a bulbous housing. Inside there is the thermostat. If its a turbo, you'll have a little plastic device on top with four screws connecting it. Leave it alone.
  9. 15lbs isn't a bit much pressure. The radiator cap holds in 13lbs, and I know Phil/KBD is running 16 lbs in his RX. Flush junk, I've never used. I can't comment on how well it does or doesn't work.
  10. If you add the antifreeze seperate from the water, add 3/4 gallon. The system holds 1.5 gallons total.
  11. No. Just stick the hose in the inlet to the radiator, and let it flow until what's coming out turns clear. When you're done, let everything finish draining, hopefully emptying the system. Refill with 50/50. P.S., yeah, after the first time removing the drain plug, you learn to not lay underneath the car, and twist that bolt with as long as a reach as you can get. First time I drained the XT's coolant, It sprayed out everywhere.
  12. The wagon has wrinkled bumpers... I think I'll take yours
  13. We should have like a barbeque or something with the old schoolers. It seems there's not enough of us to really have a 'meet' like red rocks.
  14. The amber one sucks in the daytime to read. That's the biggest reason I wanna get rid of mine. I have so much trouble reading that dash.
  15. I dunno if the wiring is any different. There were two styles of digidashes, 85-86 had the amber colored, and 87+ (?) had the green colored. Those probably have different wiring. Analog dashes though, I dunno. I'd assume they're the same throughout the years. Tach signal should be the same.
  16. You need to custom wire it in. If you can find wiring diagrams for both dashes, you'll need to find what wires go where. Also, the fuel senders are different. Also, the digi dashes don't have a variable oil pressure sender, they just have a dummy light, so you'll need to switch oil pressure senders. If you have a trip computer with the range function, it will be off (cuz of a different fuel sender). I contemplate every day switching dashes in my XT. I hate the digi dash. As cool as my friends think it is. Btw, I can scan in the wiring diagrams for an 86, and hopefully soon to have an 88 manual if you need
  17. From the 86 FSM: Carb Intake (open/close): 3 BTDC / 51 ABDC Exhaust: 47 BBDC / 7 ATDC SPFI Intake: 10 BTDC / 54 ABDC Exhaust: 49 BBDEC / 15 ATDC MPFI non-Turbo Intake: 12 BTDC / 58 ABDC Exhaust: 58 BBDC / 12 ATDC MPFI Turbo Intake: 3 BTDC / 51 ABDC Exhaust: 47 BBDC / 7 ATDC Appears in 86 Carb and Turbo are the same, but the rest are different. I dunno what any of this means though. Someone else can do the calculations needed.
  18. Yes, there is a difference, and no, the turbo cams probably wouldn't work better on your carb motor.
  19. What Jeff tried to say and failed at, head over to xt6.net. That site specializes in the quirkiness and fun of XTs and XT6s. I myself own an 86 XT Turbo, and love it. Good luck with yours!
  20. 2 core can definitely handle the heat. Mine never reaches above 212 (I have a mechanical gauge) on uber hot days. 212 is about half on the gauge I think? The old radiator I had from when the head gaskets blew was an old one core that was clogged to hell.
  21. Yup, open up the petcock on the radiator and pull the drain plugs on the bottom of the heads. Run water through it until the water turns from green to clear.
  22. What's wrong with getting just a bit more power out of his current motor? The EA81 is plenty for a daily commuter. Could do an SPFI swap on it. There's a couple threads about doing that. That should help with power. Actually, that's probably one of the best bangs for your buck.
