yeah I love that lift. keeps the tranny up inside the car instead of lowering it. Me and my cousin were talking about lifts and making a new style lift up. There has to be some sort of way to make a shackle for the control arms to the engine crossmember. to make more suspension travel and more controlled like on a linkage swingarm on a dirtbike. Another idea is hydaulic steering. No steering column at all. It would use a juicebox and a steering wheel and then there would be hydraulic lines running down to rams that would be placed where the rack and pinion is whatya doin

Putting a turbo on a EA82 non turbo???
torxxx replied to Sallbasic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you'll need the crossmember from the turbo car, the crosspipe, up and downpipes, turbo, wiring harness, complete intake.. oh yea forgot to mention dual port heads so the turbo intake will bolt on -
Man, I gotta go to iceland and rally my car.. looks fun there that legacy on 44's is the poop

Ice racing is as hard on a tranny as racing on dirt/gravel/pavement would be. Even when you downshift and lock up all 4 tires, it doesnt take anything for your tires to slide. I think it'll be fine. Use synthetic oil in the tranny

torxxx replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
heheh yea I always carry 2 alternators. I do live in alaska. 90 percent of the time, the part stores wont carry a sooby alternator And I keep 3 coils cuz I think one of them is bad, but I havent installed em to find the bad one yet. lol -

EA82 Wagon 4x4 - weigh'd mine at the landfill a few weeks ago. With a 50 lb tool box, 2 10" subs in a heavy box, amp 2 spare tires, 3 jacks, 2 jackstands, 3 spare coils, 2 spare alternators I was pushin 3150 lbs. That was with a 1/2 tank gas. Yota pickup, short bed reg car 4x4 ~ 4000 lbs extended cab ~ 4500 lbs The brat and the hatch from looking in my manual a month ago, I remember seeing ~ 2700 lbs dry for both -
5 speed. the 4 speeds are horrible for highway speeds. my buddies brat (stock) is like your rig with 25s. I drove it one time and couldnt stand that I was always shifting between 3 and 4 and 3 was too high, but 4 was too low

New Subaru owner with a shift linkage problem
torxxx replied to Arvid's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Clutch cable might need to be tightened. When I put a new cable in my wagon last week, I had similar problems with it not shifting to second and 3rd. Also like someone else said, change the gear oil in the tranny. you want SAE 75-90 weight gear oil. Get 5 quarts -
AA lift installation/use thread
torxxx replied to torxxx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Awesome feedback. After I get my lift on (when ever it quits raining and blowing) I will do a write up on shortcuts and tricks to make the whole installation eaisier and I will post it in the USRM. Hopefully I will have my internet at the house setup so I can get pictures. One thing the instructions I have say is something about the shift linkage guard or some crap like that? does any thing have to be unhooked from the tranny and shifters? And where is this going to put my dual range lever? -
backspacing.... damn candian talk... do you mean inset or offset? offset being farther out from the car.. inset being closer in

Well thats good to know that it'll hold up to my abuse. Ice racing is gonna be the hardest on it. Slamming into snowbanks completely sideways at 40 might do some damage. Kelly - Yea I was kinda thinking about just making a different skid plate. Once that I can get my hand into the get the damn oil filter off. I might just have to go and steal some construction signs tonite for operation skidplate. -
You dont need onboard air kelly.... just grow some muscles..

OK This is not a thread to start flame wars against AA. I want users input and comments, so if there is something that can be bulked up, or modified on my car to make the lift more durable, easier to install, etc... Got my lift in the mail yesterday.. Thanks AA for getting it here in a timely matter. 15 bucks shipping to alaska priority mail is GREAT. I think PK was listing over 50 bucks for his lift shipped to alaska. More parts on the PK lift, or is it the way its shipped? Now I'm debating on putting the lift on in my driveway or waiting until I get to Fairbanks in a few weeks. How many jacks/jackstands should I have for the job? I'm thinking 3 jacks and 4 jackstands should do it just fine. I'm looking for input from ANYONE who has a AA lift. Is there any shortcuts or things that the you've done different during installation from the directions provided? Hell with my bumpers 4 inches higher, I'm thinking I wont need bigger tires. I havent gotten stuck from the running gear being too low, it was always getting the body highcentered in 4 foot snowdrifts that's stopped me. I'm also looking for ideas for a spacer for the front skid plate. I'm thinking a 6 or 8 inch long piece of square tubing would probably work. It'll need to be 4 inches tall correct? One last thing, anyone cracked any welds on the AA lift? looking at the front strut spacers, the welds look a little thin for somewhere that is going to have the most pressure on it. The rear strut extentions look great. Good thickness of steel there.

How do I get rear disc rotors off? *frustrating*
torxxx replied to Harvester's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
get a craftsman flathead screwdriver.. insert into the slot of the cone washer.. give it a good wack. it'll come right off, and if you break the tip on the craftsman screwdriver, just go get a new one for free from sears. -
thats the size of tires I was gonna run. Good to know of issues I'm going to run into. Washers will work for spacers. I ran my car like that for 2 winters with washers on the front to keep the EA81 rims I had from rubbing on the brake caliper. Just make sure they are stainless steel washers so they dont rust or wear down

ultimate subaru road trip!!
torxxx replied to PeterD's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I say we try to plan this for in the spring as its getting closer to winter and we still dont have anything planned out. Make it around Spring Break time. The snowboarding will still be good, the trails will be good and muddy. Yea like Kelly mentioned about Canadia and their "felony" laws makes it a PITA to drive through. Felons can pass through, but there is a hefty fee. As far as fairbanks goes, we have awesome spring time loggin roads. all dirt, good mud. As I said earlier, a camping trip on the Fairbanks to Circle Historical trail would be good. Forest fires have cleared out a lot of that area, so we could make our own trails. -
ultimate subaru road trip!!
torxxx replied to PeterD's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
yeah. The only part of that drive thats worth it on the haul road, is the drive to Manley Hot Springs. Livengood is about 50 miles from there, and has AWESOME Ptarmigan hunting around those parts. Another good drive is the drive to Circle, but its only a town of about 50 people and the road is usually closed in the wintertime due to the weather. -
Subaru Klub of Alaska meet 'n greet on monday?
torxxx replied to Snowman's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Sorry bout not makin it up there guys. I never read the Meet and Greet.. heh, but next time I come up, I will give you guys notice and we can work something out. I still gotta steal Kelly's Rims and tires so I'll be up there sometime -
heh, you and everyone else man. They dont make any that I know of. Subarus suffer from the lack of upper door frames (where the deflectors glue to) We've discussed it before and havent had any luck. The easiest way to do it, is goto a auto parts store and get ones for an 80's S-10 pickup and see how close they will match up. You are gonna have to attach them to your A pillar, and make sure the door glass doesnt catch an edge when its opening or closing. Good luck and lemme know if you find a set that works for it.

I've got up north on lock down. I have a serious offroad trail set up. The Fairbanks to Circle Historical Trail. The Denali Rally would be the shizznit... Either way, we need to put this into action. Either way, the alcan is the alcan. There is roads between Anchorage and Fairbanks and Fairbanks and Valdez that are just as bad, if not worse then the alcan, so I wouldnt worry about that. The Subaru Klub of Alaska is a good group to get into. Its still small, but between me, Kelly, Matt and my buddy O'neil in Fairbanks, we'll get ya back on the road in a heartbeat T-belts, V-belts, axles, brake pads (they like to separate from the backing plate in the cold) and you should be set. We need to get some dates going to everyone can plan for it. We could call it the Alaska Subaru Show since you guys always have WCSS when I'm out fishing!
