  2. I look under my car every day. It takes 5 seconds to do. Gotta make sure I didnt run anyone over... lol
  3. thanks carfreak, I'll double check that.. thats one of the nice things about being in the driest part of alaska. No rust
  4. Found an AWESOME 1985 Brat today. Baby blue and it still has the brat stripes down the b-pillar. No rust holes anywhere in the car. Paint rust on the back fenders but its just surface rust. The tailgate is dented, but repairable. Has the T-tops, original bumpers and grill. 101,000 miles its an old man car, so its been taken well car of. payin 500 for it. Is there anything I need to know about 85 Brats? like the problematic parts?
  5. for the cone filter, get a K&N filter, and then get a SPFI air intake hose that runs from the MAF to the fuel injector problem solved
  6. replace the raid, and flush the heater core... seems like 86's havea problem with the cooling system. I've worked on 6 at work that all had the same problems.. changing the raid and flushing the heater core fixed the problems. grab the pulley on the water pump. if it moves up and down at all, the bearings are going bad (or already are). It could also just be a bad air bubble in the cooling system. park it on a steep uphill, let it heat up with the raid cap off and watch for bubbles.
  7. sounds like you need to restab the input shaft. and when you put the engine back in, the TQ has to be on the tranny side. install it to the tranny, then put the engine in, and then you put the tq bolts into the play via the timing hole in the bell housing or in the hole where the starter goes. what I do is take the input shaft out, line it back up until it goes all the way back in, and then give it a good swift kick to set it into place
  8. its an 87 automatic wagon. seeing if the car is worth getting for parts or not -if I get a car fax- I also found a nice 84 GL sedan. black with hardly any rust.
  9. Would someone please do a carfax on this for me if you have access or an account with them? check this VIN - JF2AN53B5HF449782 Mfd in 02/87 thanks in advance
  10. a ford 2150 (inline 6) carb works too I believe
  11. how complicated is it changing out the dimmer switch? Mine is doing the same thing. High and Low beams on Low setting and then highs on at the high setting.
  12. blown voltage reg. 86's are notorious for doing that. i've gone through 12 of them in 4 years
  13. no ones mentioned you'll need a 3.900 rear diff for the 5 spd dr swap
  14. cant im it if the tech cant turn on the check engine light
  15. cut your front fenders below the 2 inch black trim in front of the tire. lol
  16. figured it out. Who ever worked on the car last plugged in the white connector next to the green connector. I didnt know that it was a combination to resetting the ecu. I always just unhooked the negative for a few minutes. The flashing check engine light is a all clear for the ECU. its saying that everything is functioning correctly. After unplugging the white connector, the check engine light went out
  17. Its a customer car. Everything worked fine before the engine swap. I did not do the swap, but I checked everything and its all hooked up right. I plugged in the green clearing connectors, and drove it fora few miles, and it made the check engine light come back on and stay on constant. Unlugged the clearing connectors and it goes back to the flashing check engine light again. Its weird, because the car runs GREAT. Out of the last 30 I've worked on, this one runs the best. The guy is trying to get it IM'd so he can register it so I really need to get this problem fixed.
  18. Alright, heres the deal. check engine light was on, checked the ecu, got the egr code, fixed that. reset the check engine light, and now it flashed on and off. I've never seen a sooby do that before. What does the flashing check engine light mean? (my boss said it gives out the codes, I told him he was crazy.) its on for a half second and then off for a half second. And how do I get the Check engine light to stop flashing like that. 91 Loyale SPFI. recent engine swap
  19. Northguy saved my trip to anchorage this weekend. Blew another alternator. Just wanted to say thanks. The EA-81 alt. worked great on my EA-82
  20. word.......... I'm hijackin this since is just us Alaskans using this thread. I'm planning on comin down to anc. thursday night. I'll be there until probably sunday. Northguy - I found that piece of door trim for your brat. Its grey (is that the right olor) The only problem is that someone else took over the junkyard that the car is in, and I can't get ahold of the guy to get back in there. I will keep trying. And for the heat vent handle things you wanted, that car has them from what I can tell. I will pop out all the vents and bring those down for you too.
  21. alright guys.. another problem with a car at work. Guy brought in a SPFI 90 loyale, S/R 5 speed. Here what he told me. Heater didnt work, front wipers didnt work, Tail lights dont work, but the brake lights do. The passenger side headlight works like it should, while the driver side is barely lit up. I got the heater and wipers working. I replaced a few bulbs in the tail lights, got them working. Then I started on the head light problem. This is where it got frustrating. After 20 or 30 min of checking wires up front, the tail lights stopped working almost completely. They are still on, but just enought to make the filament turn orange. When I disconnect the drivers side (side with problem) headlight, it makes all the marker lights and tail lights go out completely. With it plugged in, they come back on. So I changed the bulb out and the connector that plugs into the bulb. Still nothing works. Started messing with the fuses. When I took the fuse of for the LH head light, it stayed on. So I'm thinking it now could be the switch in the steering column. I tried two other steering column switches, and got the same results. Anyone have ANY ideas on what could be causing this electrical problem? Oh yea, cleaned up all the battery connections and grounds..
