  1. Zowweee Buddy towed my ride, 2.3 Miles (in snow) with the front end up, rear end on the road. My bad........forgot to stipulate the requirement for a Flat Deck. :-\
  2. Thanks for the last. Main Pulley is on a Rubber Hub! (Like an Outboard Motor Prop Hub). EJ22 was not like this! Appears that the pulley on the EJ25 let go and drilled inward towards the time belt cover. The A/C belt wore off. Alternator belt too tight?.I was not horsing the car and I only drove it a short distance for a safe landing.Going to check the timing marks on the Tbelt behind the covers.Could I have jumped a tooth? She won't start now.Turns over but no start. Pricing out a pulley. :-\
  3. Here is a picture attached (I think). You can see on the sides of the pulley how it is burrowing into the plastic plastic timing case. What a brutal time for this to happen. I am not really clear on what is happening here nor how to repair it. Any further explanations are greatly appreciated. Thanks Ultimate
  4. Hey Folks Alternator Drive belt fryed and A/C belt is missing in action. The main pulley is recessed into the timing belt cover. Did I blow a main bearing? Worst thing is I just sold my EJ22 engine. Any ideas???
  5. Well I smurfed out the market (new and used) cause my O/B is pushing 400K and the tank is leaking now plus a bunch of other small items. Would last another winter up here in Northern Ontario but I have finally found the only ride that can come close. Yes I will be taking delivery of my "new to me" 1998 O/B LTD in matching colour. Of course I will keep the 97 for parts and may even send the EJ22 down to Emily for a refresh. Just got back from an 8 hour ride to Kirkland Lake (Gold Mine)....O/B rocks in Kanada.
  6. Thanks Skippy and Nipper I sorted out the DC Harness on the top of the Alt real nice as well as few other items and she fired up nicely. In the process I found my Air Box to be not completely closed and this maybe what is throwing my Pressure Sensor code. Also explains the greater level of air intake noise. I seem to have problems closing that air box up. I bet their was a huge level of moisture in my intake given the amount of Southern Rain we have had. Melted almost all of our snow dang it. Global warming sucks. Anyhoo, I am back in action and now I will attempt to go over all points with a fine tooth comb. I will get my battery analyzed. Anybody have a source for that monkey wake that is used to plaster electrical connections to a terminal and make em corrosion inhibited? Thanks again fellas. Doogy
  7. Hi. My 97 O/B has become an extension of my $@ and I really can't live without her/it....... So I'm hoping you folks can fast track my fault finding procedure with some quality recommendations and I appreciate your expertise in advance. Here is the scenario (s) and you have seen most of this before: When the weather turns extremely damp (rain, fog and cold humidity) the old Girl misbehaves. In fair weather all is well. In cold, non-damp weather ..all is OK. Hard start and rough idle followed by hesitation with acceleration at low range. This phenomena disappears after about 2 miles. or The Battery dies after half a crank and I need a jump. Car runs fine til next wave of dampness .or The Battery dies after half a crank and then won't fire with jump start though turns over nicely and I can smell fuel. Right now my Subie will not fire up. Codes - 0107 (pressure sensor). Checked voltages but all OK???? Battery Terminals clean. Alternator Wiring Harness corroded at DC plug on top of Alt but conducting and I am repairing with new white wire. Haven't checked grounds straps. Haven't analyzed battery but it is 2 years old and holds well after jump. Haven't checked all cables/harnesses i.e. starter, negative on battery, sensor harnesses. Tnks Kindly
  8. Hi Fellars Thanks for chiming in...Fun do the diagnostics based on ones description of symptoms...When you don't play mechanic 24/7 it takes a bit of thought to get back into the mode. Anyhoo, enough of my babbling. I did as you said Nipper and company...now the temp gauge is normal. However there is zero heat into the cabin so I shall risk all and say "Elementary my Dear Watson..the dadgum T-Stat is stuck open....lol. I will R&R it tomorrow with a genuine Subaru joby. At the risk of sounding even more cornier...you guys are the bestest. Cheers & have a good night or day. Doogymon
  9. Thanks fellas I tried to burp the system. Opened the bleeder. The level went down and I poured in the 50/50mix. It appeared that the thermostat opened but i'm not 100%. Steam came out of the bleeder and the top hose got warm. Not sure if coolant was travelling thru.Would coolant leak out of bleeder? Didn't see any. Anyhoo the bad news is that the temp guage went high but not pegged. Still it was at about 90% to the top. There was no heat in the cabin. All fans work. Cannot see any leaks. Tighten all clamps.I guess its the thermostat next eh? And yes I will buy a genuine Subaru. Back to the snowbank. Doogymon
  10. Hi. My 97 Outback with 95 EJ22 has been a pleasure to own. Tonight I noticed anti-freeze on the snow at the front of the car. Discovered the small hose was off at the Radiator Cap nipple. Plugged it back on and drove 4 miles to home at -15 deg celsius. The temp gauge went to the high end and I lost heat in the cabin. The engine was fairly hot when I arrived including the upper rad hose (hint to the gurus). Would my disconnected resevoir hose drain my rad or could a bad thermostat cause this? BTW it was -39 deg Celsius for a couple of recent nites....can metal shrink? I went to the 95 2.2 l engine so that I wouldn't have learn how to spell head gasket.....lol.... Any help would be appreciated....It may have to use the services of a Sub Dealer..due to time constraints...yikes. Thanks Doogymon
  11. How are you Eh! I now have about 12K (KM) on my 97 Outback LTD with EJ22 Engine (95 Auto). Only hiccup I had was after a while it threw a knock Sensor code. I R&R'ed with a new one (ordered from a foreign country of course). Anyhoo, what a difference with the new knock sensor, runs very smooth. The old sensor was physically cracked. This Car is best rig I ever had. Just about to slap on my Yokahama Snows. Let her snow. Looking into aftermarket exhaust. My Cats are questionable (came off a 98 Outback blown h/g). Can I guy bolt on a nice exhaust and simplify the cats so that the engine breathes better and still passes emissions? Any advice on exhaust sys? Thanks Doogymon
  12. Hi Folks. The swap out went without a hitch (very smoothly), just like predicted on this board. Thanks for your help. I put a new oil pan on the EJ22, the original was stoned chipped. No codes showed up and the car started just like new. Just have to turn the rotors and I'll be on the road. All other systems appear to be serviceable. Hopefully the struts are ok, the car has 300k KM. Long live the Subaru. Cheers
  13. Don't know the origin of the doaner 2.2L. The car receiving the transplant is a 97 O/B Auto and had the 2.5L. Cheers & Thanks for your help thus far.
  14. Greetings Subies I am yanking the 2.5L out of my 97 O/B and inserting a 95 2.2L from a legacy. Will the following parts from the 2.5 work on the 2.2: Starter motor Coil pack Alternator Timing Belt Covers Also, anybody have a good source for quality Sub parts up here in the frozen North (Canada). Ordering from the States can be a drag with brokerage fees coming across the border. I need a timing belt/seals kit. Thanks Doogymon
  15. Thanks very much for your replies. I will be elbows deep in a few weeks with changing the engine on my 97 OBW. I may be popping in for a few questions so I thank you in advance. Happy New Year
  16. Great Site Disclaimer: Haven't played with cars for a lonnnng time and I know this site has alot of threads about this subject. Sorry for any redundancy or improper terminology. Finally got me a Subaru (been test driving for 8 years). 1997 Outback LTD 2.5L , 300k KM and pooched Head Gasket. I have placed a deposit on a 1995 EJ22 with 93k Km and will pay the rest as soon I have a warm and fuzzy confirmation that I can plug the 2.2L into the O/B. Is it possible for some "corrective" comments on some of the variables/concepts listed below: 1. The 2.2L (EJ 22) must be a 1995 for a Transplant into a 1997 O/B because of the number of Tranny Bolts? i.e. Post 95 EJ22s went to 8 bolts? 2. The 2.2L must be a 1995 for a transplant into a 1997 O/B because the 95 2.2L has a dual Output Exhaust Manifold that will match up with the 97 Y pipe. Other years for the EJ22 did not have dual exhaust port. Therefore I also need the 95 2.2L exhaust manifold which is included with the EJ22 on hold. 3. The onboard 97 O/B ECU (OBD2) can remain and will plug and play with the 95 2.2L which is OBD2. 4. The 97 O/B is an Automatic Tranny. The 95 2.2L engine Tranny is unknown. I don't think this is an issue. 5. Would it be smart to change the timing belt, water pump and oil seals with the replacement EJ22 before I attempt to stick it in the car? 6. I think I saw a thread where a Suby Guru listed misc items to consider for a job like this like. He talked about engine mount rubbers and stuff like that. Any ideas? Thanks Subies. Thanks Emily Really appreciate it Merry Xmas from Doogymon
