  1. I see the simplicity of the quickie/cheapie lift with air bags. But, I've found that the best results off road are to be had with the suspension dialed all the way down and the sway bar removed. The more movement the suspension has, the better chance it has of keeping wheels on the ground. Wheels on the ground = traction. Traction is good. I'm even against "clocking" the torsion bar because it makes it too stiff in the rear. And yeah, what he said about the cvs.
  2. None of these guys have answered the question youve asked. Your 85 GL wagon has adjustable struts in the front, and adjustable coil-overs in the rear. You can gain a little over an inch on the front and 2 or more from the rear. That would be a "mild" lift. I kinda-totally disagree. For my first 2 offroad hatches, I refused the lift kit, and followed Qman everywhere he went in his 4 inch lifted hatch. But one day when we went to drop off a big rock face, my front bumper caught, causing me to teeter on 2 wheels, stuck. Qman barely nudged his front bumper on that same rock because of the clearance afforded by the lift kit and drove right down with no problem. Exact same line, I have it on video. He sported 28 inch Coopers, I had 28 inch Swampers. That day sold me on the advantage of a lift kit. Big tires will give you clearance under your Y-pipe, but clearance under your bumpers and rocker panels is good to have too. High-centering is a bitch, even with 28s.
  3. He detailed the HEll out of the car for that show. They have a thing about tracking mud into the place. I asked if I could show up all muddy, Tex said he'd already asked. . .
  4. Yeah, kinda like the dude who painted the grill on his tan wagon blue to match his brush guard.
  5. How tall are you? If you are 6 ft or better, you definitely want a gen 2.
  6. That's usually the bushing in the disty. Pull the cap off and wiggle the rotor. If there's play, there you go.
  7. Anybody besides me see his wallet sitting there? Auto-winged-Doh!
  8. That should be Jeff "One Eye". That mud would be compliments of Evans Creek.
  9. I understand. Especially for just a day thing. You should have made it up to Evans Creek last weekend. Maybe next time.
  10. Near Monroe, WA. We'll see what the weather is like. I'm not pulling my 1000 dollar camera out to get ruined by H20. I have hundreds of photos and hours of video already. You've got my #.
  11. One of the HP guys called to ask if I'd make it up to Reiters Pit this Saturday. There's a special reason, but I ain't sayin' what. Anyways, Qman has his Brat all up and running again, along with a bit of modification, that as far as we know, is the first to be done to a Soob. This will be a big chance to see a few of these offroad and doing the dirty stuff. Anybody wanna join us to see what he's done to it? And the other thing too.
  12. I'm with them. It's not what it's worth here, it's what folks will pay. Not much. You may or may not have any luck with eBay. Autotrader is probably the best place for it, people can view it nation wide. I've offered up a few of my lifted rigs in Auto Trader, and mostly I got calls from folks saying they had a brat and wanted to know how to lift and upgrade theirs.
  13. Austin got a little footage and some still shots, hopefully he'll post 'em today. MORE NEXT WEEKEND!!! Reiters here we come!
  14. MAN O MAN!! We got ourselves into some stuff today! The bummer is, it was raining so hard all day that the cameras mostly stayed in the cars. . . Had 5 lifted Soobs, a big rump roast FJ 40 and a Bronco (which broke before we hit the trail). The guys from Mt Vernon had their share of trouble today. Another "unhatched" among them. It went to go thru teh mud hole and lost its tranny. The wagon they brought ran out of gas on the trail, on a big hill climb ta boot. Austin is a pro with his ej22 powered wagon. Even open diff'd. He just keeps at least 5 people in it for traction. My little hatch performed perfectly, impressed some Jeep guys pretty good as they pulled over to let me go up the gnarly trail they were coming down. Got it good and muddy, and even put a little dent behind the drivers door down low. The fold below the doors lived, and is still pretty. It will clean up real nice.
  15. I can't guarrantee open seats, but I'm guessing the North guys might each have open seats. There may be room in Brian's FJ too. . . I'm leaving at 6 sharp, feel free to follow me down.
  16. I'll be heading down Sunday a.m. See you there. Or at 5 to 6 Sunday morning, I leave at 6 sharp. This is gonna be cool. Spent all day accessorizing the hatch. A-bar action with a little change to the A-bar. Bring on the bumps! Brian will be camping along with at least 3 from North. Expect a few guys from the SNORT board to show too. Should be 15 vehicles at least. . .
  17. You can stuff a 4500 lb winch in pretty easy. But I just alwasy use a come-a-long. It's rated at 8000 with its snatch. That and a few straps and a chain for trees and 2 people can get it out of just about anything. That stuff's all lighter too. I can keep it behind my seat and dry and out of the way.
  18. The only thing that stopped me was the gas tank. That was as far as I could cut it.
  19. Qman is in the middle of moving the front end forward on his Brat. He still has no internet at his new house, so you'll have to wait for him to be back on line before he can tell you what he did. I think he used some ea82 parts.
  20. Here's a couple of photos of my Bob'd Brat. I think I was the first to do it like this. http://community.webshots.com/album/37919799NGXlOA
