  1. What he said. 26 inch tires don't seem so big, but you'll find that your clutch will really hate them with no dual range.
  2. The one that got smashed and fixed pulled hard to the right when we got it back from the repair shop. They messed with it and got it to go straight, but I still wasn't happy. The one we traded it in for has no such problem. I've driven it in the snow and had no problem with it pulling or kicking. In fact, it was so boring that I put it back in the driveway and brought out the jeep so I could have fun and spin the tires and stuff.
  3. Stickers are very exciting. Let's get this mofo on the trail man!!! I'm ready to wheel with you buddy!
  4. Very inventive. But, I think you are gonna HATE those on your dash. Think of the glare from the sun on any given day man. You will be blind as hell. Maybe paint them flat black or something?
  5. Welcome to the USMB. Plenty of local/NW folks here.
  6. We are few here, but we are here with our XVs. Welcome.
  7. It was indeed very cold. Saw 7 degrees on the thermometer at one point. Good times, decent turnout.
  8. Maybe. Not too stoked about that being in the back of the XV. . . Too cold to bring the family in the heep.
  9. It's gonna be COLD. Prepare for it. http://www.weather.com/weather/5-day/Greenwater+WA+USWA0523:1:US

Make sure to use better tires than he did, I have it on video failing pretty miserably with the Thornbirds. And so you know. The guy who owned this complained about complete lack of visibility.
  11. My guess is that it came with a diesel. Prolly wanna keep that ea81 away from it. lol
  12. This is what I'm running. I would argue that they will do fairly well in the muddy stuff. I did really great on the gravel and dirt road on the way to the snow. I was stoked to try them out at the RallyX, but it got cancelled.

I'll be there in the XV.
  14. Ok. So I changed my mind. I decided I wanted some AT's instead. They make a couple of pretty sweet ones that would only be a half inch taller than stock. I wanna Rally X, play on dirt roads and get into snow. A dedicated snow tire wouldn't do the trick. So I sold them on craigslist for 90 bucks more than I paid for them. hehehe. I bought new wheels after finding some irresistible snow tires locally on craigslist for a dirt cheap price that look like they'll do fine in grass and mud. Looks like they'll slay the snow too. Came out 100 bucks on top ta boot. Hoping to test them out at the pass tomorrow.
  15. How about adding a hood scoop. There's gonna be a turbo in the sucker, right?

Snow makes all that much funner.
  17. The ea81 is about the most reliable engine ever. lol But the idea of fuel injection is the shiz. Ask Ken about how tough it is to follow me up long steep inclines at slow speeds cuz his carb always gets to choking on itself. The pic attached is him doing the 3 feet thing with brake gas and clutch all at the same time to keep it running. Lame.
  18. They're a mix of both.
  19. I test drove both the impreza and the crosstrek, drove the five speed and the cvt of each. I drove them on the highway and drove them like I stole them. I tried real hard to beat the traction control around highway on/off ramps with both. We concluded they held corners the same. The crosstrek seemed faster in a straight line. Turns out the imp has 4.11 for a final gear, the crosstrek has 4.44. Both seemed grossly underpowered in the 5 speed form. Slamming gears one to the next was impossible, the cars would choke and stutter, not near enough power to hold rpms. After 5k miles with the cvt xv, I am used to the "lack of power". Which really isn't for the gas mileageit gets. And after a few little light to light dashes against various other cars, it holds its own. "Whoohoo, paddle shifter time!!" If you wanna pass at 60, a gentle stab will get that thing up to 80-90 no problem. I'm betting it would beat my old 2.2 impreza sedan 5 speed in a 1/4 mile. But I didn't buy it for the speed or lack of. I bought it for the leg room and I bought an XV cuz it's higher off the ground. I like it tall cuz I play in the snow with the family when I can. Low cars suck in the snow. Plus it looks way more baddass than an impreza when they're parked next to eachother. Handling? I also have a 2000 RS impreza. I take one on ramp on the way home at 60 and let the car coast, this is close to the limit of it not sliding sideways. I can do the same corner in the xv at the same speed with no worries. I love the car, and would buy another.
  20. One day when I've got several hours to make something special, I'll put the best of the discs below on a 3 or 4 part dvd set. I'm gun shy to let someone help me. I've sent off my footage to two trustworthy USMB members and never got anything back.
  21. Saturday, December 7, Greenwater, Forest Road 70. We'll meet at Mikky D's in Enumclaw at 9:00 a.m. and leave at 9:30 in a group or in groups up Highway 410 to go play in the snow. You have to have snow tires on your car to join us. It's a free country, but if you show up with street tires, you'll get stuck and just piss off the folks behind you that want to keep heading up the trail. This is a good family fun time. Leave your asshattery and bad attitude at home. Kids and friendly dogs welcome. There is a main parking lot that we set up base camp at. If your car is somewhat low and the snow is deep higher up, there will be folk with room to take you.
  22. We'll give you free admission if you make it. lol
