  1. It was a 1980 DL, but had a dual range and an 1800.
  2. Shawn's conundrum: Hmmm. . . Let me see. . . 4 1/2 minutes in a car doing Rally X. (Which is a blast, but comes every month or so all Spring/Summer/Fall [sometimes Winter] ) Or a weekend with old friends I haven't seen for years. . . ? Toughy.
  3. You'll still be cutting and bashing to keep them from rubbing. Doesn't mean you have to butcher it, but you will have to alter things. I did quite a bit of altering to make these not rub. Can't tell though, I did it pretty.
  4. That's a DL. 1600, 5 spd, no tach. . . Right? Pretty pretty though.
  5. Pics and video. We got stuck behind a Willy's club. This was on the way back over the pass. We did some 60 miles or so that day on the Little Naches.
  6. The 38/38 dumps too much gas for the ea81. 32/36 is the way to go.
  7. Had a great time. It was good to meet you guys who I hadn't met before. My only disappointment was that only 2 of the 9? Brats were lifted. lol Good to see you Jerry. Fix that damn mustang before it sinks into the ground. My offer of 2350 stands. Here's a shot of us leaving for the canyon cruise. (which was very beautiful but frustrating as the speed was 45mph. That road needs to be 75 or more ) Saw this on the way home. Got a speeding ticket on the way home too. . .
  8. My Brat won't even be ready by this weekend. Too much to do to it. It's already started, so I can't bring it stock either. Thinkin' about just driving up in my other Subaru Sunday a.m. and hanging out for the day. I'll bring Subaru toys to look at, more Brats than the rest of you combined. Forcast looks beautiful!! http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/ski/tenday/USWA0130?role=
  9. Could I see a pic of the 6 inch ea81 kit? What do I need to complete the install? Rear shocks? Brake lines? Does the exaust wind up hanging really low?
  10. Looks like I'll have a lifted Brat by then. I mean it REALLY looks like I'll have a lifted Brat by then. I'll try to pull it off. Side note. Do you guys wanna start a new thread with a condensed first post? Where, when, details, list of potential attendees? Lemme know, I'll help.
  11. I owned one 3 times. Bought it at an auction, sold it to a Soob mechanic. Bought it back from him a year later, lifted it, sold it to a fellow in Idaho. 5 years later, bought it back from him and drove it back to Washington. Then I sold it to another board member in Portland. 9-10 years ago, I bought a Brat off of craigslist. Sold it shorly there after to a board member. He's nursed it along all these years and still has it. Today, I'll buy it back.
  12. Shorter blocks at the trans crossmember is a good idea. It doesn't hurt anything. It does angle the exaust up a little so it doesn't hang so low and look so funny. I thought that one up before I wrote the FAQ. I also came up with the idea to use an extra 1 inch block at the motor crossmember to give level out the camber. Works too. I can have an ea81 lifted in about 4 hours in my garage. They are very easy to lift. I think I've lifted 19 ea81s.
  13. (thanks for the pic Scott) Are the strut tower blocks in the pic off set or not?
  14. pics are back up.

  15. I'm sorry man, but that's just not true. Even a 3 inch kit requires a great deal of beating on the inner firewall to clear the struts accounting for the offset. Without that offset, the camber is rediculous. \-/ Ubaroo. Try this. Set the wheels on the ground, set a strut on there, point it straight up, see what you get.
  16. Ok. I've gone thru and cleaned this up. Dude, asis. Stay out of it. Asis. Expect to join band. You get the flute.
  17. These things are nuts. There's almost infinite (oxymoron) possibilities as to what you can do for mods for cheap. What a cool little addiction. With the shelf body. Action shots. Ok fine, this one's posed. Not this one. New rock pile is hard as hell.
  18. Another month or so, I'll start having the time to do these trail runs. Almost there.
  19. Hands up, let's see how many of us are here. Washington, Oregon, Idaho only. I'm curious. Mick's map died, and didn't really show current users. I'll start. Here. Seattle, Washington.
  20. After being spoiled by our imprezas for the last 7? years, I could never* make the backwards step to an ea81 for a dd. Especially not a lifted one. My coupe is fun to drive, but not up hills or around corners. If you're gonna wheel it some too, then yeah, get a hatch. And to counter my friend GD. . . Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. I have no problem looking at any ea81 with a lift on it. They all look the same from the front. They all wheel the same, I don't agree with the "4 inches of departure angle is gonna make you go farther" argument. They all have y-pipes up front. Nor do I think that 4.5 inches of wheelbase is worth a crap either. The most successful ea81 wheeler is the one with the best power to weight ratio. aka, the lightest one. Hatches win that title all day long. Brats are ten times as useful as a hatch for everyday use. Put a canopy on it, and POW, ganga "dry space". Seperate from the stinky dogs too. You can't put a quad or a motorcycle in the back of a hatch. no way.
  21. Wow, go thru the names of the people who posted on this thread way back. "Where are they now?"
  22. We'll keep our eyes open. I found crayola's brat the day it got stolen, it was parked at a local Target. Good luck.
