  1. Are there any local wheelers left besides Turbone? I'm taking a couple of rigs out to my Father's cabin on the Penninsula. It's in Chimacum (sp?) just about 20 minutes South of Port Townsend. Takes about 25 minutes to drive there from the Kingston Ferry. Lots of good wheeling, big fire pit, 7 acres of fun. Cabin sleeps 10 or 12 comfortably. A couple of lakes within minutes, mile and miles of trails 10 minutes away. Drinking and *stuff* will definitely be on the agenda, minors better be with your guardian. Qman and Turbone are maybes/hopefuls. . . Anybody else wanna go wheelin?
  2. So find me a JDM dual range tranny for my impreza. I htink lots of us want the same thing. . .
  3. Here's the next level you can take your newest Ultimate Wheeler to. http://video.cardomain.com/Clip.aspx?key=26A6F2383E590925
  4. Did you take time to read the F.A.Q. in the Off Road section? The question you asked is answered there. Several times.
  5. What's the cause of this forum going dead? Nobody is wheeling this Summer? Is it just that nobody's taking photos? Did the action at WCSS just cause a brief calm in the waters? I know some of you don't like it when the Toyota guys post their fun, but sheesh, there's been 0 Subaru action for a while now. . . With the return of my old Brat, I'll undoubtedly be showing pics of it doing the mild off road stuff, but a busted cv boot keeps me from doing it sooner than later. That and no time right now. The Toyota is ready and waiting to go back out, but again, no time. The rest of you? ? ? And lastly, if I organize a weekend cabin wheeling trip, will any of you be interested in going?
  6. I think: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=76928
  7. Just pm'd you about it. You'll recall this Brat from the vids. I took it into the mud and got it stuck, (why there's no carpet on the floor now) then went down the rock face with it unassisted. Tex' Brown wagon is in that segment.
  8. Took that picture yesterday. Good luck finding rust on this one. I didn't go and get it back for no reason. hehe. Out of the 30 or so Soobs I've sold in the last 7 years, this is one of 2 I actually missed. The other is Bob, and Bob for its off roadability. It's got some blemishes that don't show. A bad bondo repair gone bad on the driver's side door, and the top corners of the cab cuz the cap stayed on for the last 5 years. . . Couple other little door dings. I've got a good buddy in his second year of tech school for body and paint who's gonna help me doll it up. It'll most likely get painted the same blue again. I'm considering trading the custom (baddass) bumper-Abar-skidplate combo for stock bumpers and fenders. This year I didn't even wash it before the WCSS, it still had bugs all over the front from the 800+ miles it took to get it there. Next year I'm gonna take a stab at a prize in the show. This one's a keeper, one that I'll restore. It'll only ever see the lightest duty off road stuff. The swampers will come off and on will go the A/Ts for street use. (that's all A/Ts are good for anyways.)
  9. It took me about 8 seconds to bend the intake hose up and out of the way. I've had water over the hood a few times now, which means in excess of 4 feet. It wasn't mud that killed his engine, or the soob's engine previously, it was water. Do you hate water too? Good luck getting into mud 4 feet deep with a stock truck, or most other trucks for that matter. I'd blame all of this on the drivers and their lack of experience, lack of preperation, and lack of common sense. Not to mention lack of extraction methods. A Soob is not an extraction method for a 3600+ lb truck, I'm sorry. I love mud, here's what my truck looked like after last weekend. Water over the hood and everything. The window is clean cuz it was down when I went under. The left side of my body pretty much matched the truck. I swear I'm still cleaning mud out of my ear. lol The dash and inside of the window got it pretty good too. 10 bucks at the car wash got most of it off. What doesn't come off is character.
  10. Sorry, I told the wife I'd take one for the team so she and her Mom, who's here from Japan, could go watch the fireworks. I'll be home babysitting a 2 1/2 year old who's got a bit of a fever and cold. . . :-\ We've got some that we'll set off in the lot accross the street. Happy 4th just the same.
  11. My new old Brat. Just got it back from the guy who I sold it to almost 5 years ago. Happy am I. He treated it very well btw. Weber 32/36 that I originally installed before selling. Pug and play, no messing with it. The Success Story part: I flew from Seattle to Pocatello, ID last Thursday (6/28) to retrieve my old Brat and hopefully get it back Home in time for the WCSS9. I haven't seen hide nor hair of the car in the time it was gone, so no idea what to expect. Dale assured me it would do fine, I didn't see any reason not to believe him. Still wasn't too happy to find that the first 4 hours of the trip would be thru the desert with the temp at about 95+ degrees. We set out, and by Boise, were able to figure that the car was getting some 25 mpg, the odometer was a bit off because of the 225/70/14 All Terrains it was sporting. Fifth gear the whole way, averaging roughly 75-80. Cool so far. Night set in, so the first of the mountain passes, the Blue Mountains, would be done at night. Only a couple of times, we had to drop it into 4th up the big hills, never dropped below 60 mph. So, event free, we made it back to Seattle, two more mountain passes and all. @750 miles, gas used = 23 gallons. Yeah, you do the math. 12 hours for the trip, with minimal stops for leg stretch, energy drinks and piss breaks. That's when I looked under it to find it had no CAT. It blew thru emmissions just the same, made me pretty happy. Moral, Webers can be a very nice addition to your ride. Super gas mileage, lots of power, and still run clean.
  12. who told you you can't use 27s with a 3 inch lift? why would you need to use legacy control arms? feel free to use the faq up top, i spent a lot of time putting it together it will tell you that 27s will indeed fit under your car. if you can make it all work it should look pretty cool all said and done who knows, maybe you'll be the very first person to adapt the outback struts and springs to a GL that would be pretty cool. i say try it maybe you'll fail maybe you will not fail. good luck
  13. Your boy Brian claims that's his car. . . Which one is it Rob? lol
  14. Yeah, I know what you mean. My Mom was in the truck when the hood went under water. lol ('You're not gonna try to go in there are you?. . . ERIC!!' I also got a little off caber going up one of the muddy climbs and had to weasel my way the rest of the way up. She was a little freaked out, but she's getting better. (she wanted a second ride in the imp at the rally x.)
  15. Ya know I'm playing Rob. You were a pretty big star, you didn't let folks down by not using your ride for what it was meant for. You also didn't let folks down by not knowing how to pilot it. Bravo, kudos, all that!
  16. A few of these kids are already WCSS veterans. My boy is two, he's been to 2. (thanks for the shirt Mick!) Mark's kids are long time vets now. A shot of the rigs outside of Denny's on the trip down.
  17. Same Rob, all in fun. . . .Dumb drunk people and wheeling. You're nice for helping him. If he'd done that after I'd warned him, and drunk, I woulda left him to fend for himself.
  18. I don't know, but I do know there's lots of motorcycles buzzing around from 6 a.m. till 10 p.m. A skittish dog would be a bad idea probably. . .
  19. Fireworks aren't allowed at the show or ORV park. I think they said they'd throw you right out if you got caught using any.
  20. Ken and I took a gander at the mudholes two weekends ago. There is gonna be a lot of winching going on, I'll tell you that much. I saw a place or two where Rob will maybe make it, but the rest of you 27 inch tire wearin' folks are in for some trouble. Bring your 44s. Bring your approach angle. Deeeeeeeeeep scaaaaaaaaaaaaaaary lookin' mud. You can quote me on that.
  21. They should just put that little purple question mark up every day. . . lol The weather man does not control the weather. . . the weather does. (and rain dances)
  22. Yeah, lol. Yesterday I went and spent a couple of hours digging up the ones sticking out of the ground. Pushed the carnage over to the side more. Then I dug a few holes and made mounds and stuff to run the r/c jeeps back there. The 1/6 one does remarkably well with a good charge. I've got the beginnings of a pretty cool little track. Should be sweet by the time you all get here for my little shindig.
  23. I think a set of 27/8.50s would fit perfectly on one of them. My neighbor had one, we were pretty sure from eyeing it. Here's what the Toy did to the blackberries. All I had to do was rake them off to the side. Keep in mind, they were as tall as the roof on the garage, I had no view of the fence in the distance untill I was a few feet from it. Now I've got a place to stash a couple of extra cars. :evil
