(Subaru body) R/C cars that is. . . I've got a few to bring and play with. They're all dirt toys. A couple of mini 4x4 crawlers, a pair of 1/24 4x4 impreza offroaders and the 1/10th 4 wheel drive Tamiya Brat. Maybe if we get enough of us together, we could get the organizers to offer prizes for an RC "car show". lol I know plenty of you are sitting on those Tamiya Brats and need to get them out of the box and play with them. If ya don't have one, ebay's got the re-release. . . What's up? hmm? hmmm?

You don't get what I'm getitng at. . . I'm saying that tire sizes vary too much from tire to tire to get an accurate calculation. You would need to physically measure it.
-
Cuz tire sizes vary too much from manufacturer to manufacturer, that's why. Two tires in the photos are marked "27". One is marked 8.5, one 9.5 for width. The swamper is at least an inch taller an probably 2 inches wider. For reference, left to right: 27/9.50/14, 225/55/17, 27/8.50/14, 205/60/15, 175r14.

I tried WRX spring/strut assemblies on the rear first. But, the end of the strut just below the threads has a different lip (for lack of a better word) than the GCish ones. There was a 1/4 inch of space that made a constant bang bang bang over bumps on the test drive. That was using my own tops. The tops from the WRX struts have a different width in the bolt pattern. You could use them if you felt comfortable redrilling the holes up top. I used used springs and new GR2s.

Good luck. And as advised earlier on, I'd get a hold of ScottinBellingham at SJR if I were you. He's a great guy, he can help you get your rig where you want it to be.

Welcome to the USMB It kinda does answer your question. And without pics of what wheels you're talking about, how would we know if you would need to "shim" them out or not? Wheels come with wide variety of backspacing and offset. Did you go thru the frequently asked questions sticky at the top of the forum? You'll find the answer to your question is pretty general. There is no manual to refer to.

I figured out how to level them out. The wife's 96 OBs has needed struts for some time. Yesterday it got 4 new ones. In the rear, I used springs from an 04? WRX wagon. They looked to be a little longer and firmer. Indeed. It lifted the rear up exactly 1 inch. The rear diff clearance measured 7 inches before and 8 after. I took it out on a test drive to the local windy road to see how it does and was very impressed. (Carkeek Park) I also added a 20 mm rear sway from an 02 sedan. Mama's car is very happy now. Me too, I can see out of her rear view mirror now. lol

That 06 thread is past its prime. Time to post/repost those photos of your Lifted Subarus. The one you have, not the ones you've had. Feel free to post 2 photos of your car, cuz I know that it can be hard to decide your favorite. Action shots encouraged! Short breakdown of the car would be cool too. If you don't have a car to post a pic of, then please don't post. It gets hard to sort thru 12 pages of comments to find cars, so moderators will delete conversation. Thanks for your cooperation. 96 OBS, w/96 LegOB struts and springs giving about 4.5 inches of lift, 27/9.50/14 SSRs. A sexy butt, . . .and a face only a mother could love.

lol 27/9.50/14 Super Swamper SSR. Should be all lifted and ready to rock at the WCSS this year.

Got 'em on yesterday. Spent the afternoon cutting and banging to get them to stop rubbing here and there. I'm satisfied that with 2 more inches they'll barely rub at all. Pretty much they only rub on the front of the fender when turning. Rather than cut into it, I'll wait to see if the lift will make it better. Most likely, I'll do like Austin and cut the bottom of the bumper off for approach. Anyways. . . For those who say it can't be done, there's better than a half an inch of clearance btween the rear strut and tire. The wheels have the perfect offset. hey, nice butt. lol clearance clarence

That last part is a good point Greg. I'd like to run it from the other side. I've done the better part of it heading East. I think we did roughly 60 miles or so. It's been a while. But I remember complaining the whole time about being stuck behind a big group of slow moving Jeeps. Letting them pass when we stopped to fix a flat was one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made while driving my Soobies off road. Here's a pic at the pass on the way back.

OBS = Out Back Sport (impreza). I'd argue the suspension difference, they are the same as an impreza wagon, just a silver bottom and a badge. And a hood scoop 97-01. Suspension is the same, look up the part #s. SUS = Sport Utility Sedan. That is the Legacy Outback Sedan.

Fine, your butt. lol 1/4 inch is all I had to use to clear them. You guys have seen the photos of the tires on the car. I even drove it around for a while like that. I didn't make anything up. Keep in mind that different wheels have different offsets. The wheels that I used were 14 inch steelies. I'm about to put a new set on my imp. But this time I've got some wheels with some proper back spacing. I shouldn't need any kind of spacer with them.
-
If you can go with imp axles, do so. They seem to tough as nails. Example being Ken in his imp trying out our new rally tires. He popped the clutch in the hard packed parking lot and dug 4 holes about an inch deep and a foot and a half long launching. My buddy Sean is sitting on some where near 350 whp in his 01 RS. I know he blew right through the stock clutch, but haven't heard any stories of axles dying.

I've broken axles and I exploded the innards of the diff once. I've seen it happen several times. From cups exploded to the shaft busting right in half.

Great job getting the ORV park again! Now I've just got to get a lift on my imp so I'll have something to bring. -
There is no difference other than a legaly binding piece of paper. Today is my 6th anniversary being married to her after 4 years of being boyfriend/girlfriend. Nothing changed. If people want to treat it differently, that's too bad. My girl has always loved to wheel with me. I've never once heard her *************** about anything I've done or attempted. (although it's not uncommon for her to laugh at me as I'm sweating a tilt or a drop off) She's always trusted me 100% to keep her safe. I've always pulled thru with my side of the bargain. The only thing that keeps her out of the "shotgun" seat these days is our boy. She's also a very good driver. One of a very precious few who I let drive my truck. On and offroad. She listens to instructions better than any of my buddies when it comes to learning the ropes of the Toy.
