I don't mind dinging up the OBS. -
Yeah, I undstood. I initially put my OBS springs onto the OB struts when I put them on. The springs were so much shorter that I could put the tops back on by hand. The rump roast end was a little taller, but the springs clunked because the struts had more travel than the springs. So when I added the OB springs, it got waaaay taller and much stiffer. With a tank of gas and fully loaded it rides like a cadilac. But the legacy is probably closer to the weight of an Outback than an OBS so maybe the legacy (wagon) spring is stiffer than one on an OBS. But I think the OB strut is taller, so the OB spring should be taller to fill the extra travel.
-
About an inch and a half taller I think. A little stiffer. The OB strut has a longer travel by 1 and 1/2 inches.
-
The only difference between the OBS and (plain) imp is paint and a couple of stickers. I had clunking issues when I tried to add WRX struts and springs to the blue one. The shoulder at the top of the strut requires a washer about 1/4-1/2 inch thick. So I removed them untill I get some.

Disregard most of what Tubo Brat just said. No disrespect Turbo Brat. But. The 90-94 legacys are exactly the same when it comes to suspension. If you would have used the tops from the OB that the springs came from, you woulda been doing it right. And. Yes, they hit at the bottom, but if you install them right and beat back the inner wall a little where they're rubbing, you'll be fine. Curious where you read it? And yes you can. I believe there's a write-up in the FAQ just above this thread.
-
Here's a different before and after. I've done some trimming on the green car, doesn't look too "hacked" to me. Still looks close, but they would rub severely on a stock OBS.
-
My car does the same thing, but I like it. Before I got the OB springs to go with the OB struts, I had to use my stock OBS springs. I wasnt' happy. Without spring compressors, I was able to install the springs on teh struts and tighten the nut on top by hand. Yeah, that loose. The OB strut has an inch and a half more up travel. I would recommend looking into a regular legacy wagon rear spring. Might be a happy medium. EZ

So it's looking like a lot of rigs so far. Me in my Toy Rob in his Hatch My buddy Brian in his FJ His Roomie in his Range Rover His other roomie in his Range Rover (the lotus is too low) lol Brian's buddy with a Toy Edrach's imp His neighbor in his Toy My buddy Delian in his 4runner His buddy in his Cherokee Sean from Rallitek in my OBS? Tex? Noah? Come on up in your Soobs!! Show all these silly Toyotas what's up! If your rig isn't trail ready, there's bound to be a seat or two open for passengers.

That's the first thing I saw, but I figure'd I'd at least read the whole thread before saying something. If you pull off some flex like that while on it a little off road. . . You'll be changing out some axles. I'd recommend limiting straps. Looks very cool though. (that would be me who went thru and got rid of the PBR BS. Please take that stuff to OT. ) Say, did you every finish the video?

It was the ignitor. It really had us stumped, so I called Sean at Rallitek. He knew right off the top of his head. So I replaced it with one from the J/Y, cuz a new one would be 300+ dollars, and the dealership would have to order it. 2 months went by with no problems. Then it happened again. I was sitting outside of the bar with the key on so the guys in the car with me having a safety meeting could roll the windows up or down if they wanted to. Sure enough, it failed me when I started it up. My luck? I had been to Pull a Part that morning and had grabbed one just cuz. Needless to say, I grabbed 3 more to have in my glove box for next time. Ken's brighton with the 2.5 swap had the same thing happen. We're pretty sure that the shop that was installing his alarm must have left the key on. Sean says that the Perfect Power makes them work harder and may have contributed as well.

A couple of you locals know what the answer is, please let someone else answer. OK, since Skip hasn't done one of these for awhile, I thought I'd try one. This has to do with a problem that came up on a 1996 2.2; my OBS. I've never had any kind of engine problems in the year I've owned the car. I drove it to Ken's house to help work on the little rally imp. @50 miles one way. I had my hatch open for an hour or more listening to music while we worked. When it came time to move it aside to make room to roll another car into the garage I got in it to move it. It started, but was running very rough, like it was missing spark in 1 or 2 cylinders. NO power, could barely get it to rev to 3 grand. So we got to pulling off the spark plug wires one at a time to check which cylinder was miss-firing. Turned out to be both of the rears. 1 and 2? ~Changing plugs and swapping out wires made no difference. ~I have a perfect power engine management chip in the car. I disconnected it and put on the bridge, still no difference. Anybody know what would cause this. Simple fix, expensive part. If you do konw the part, what would cause it to fail?

My Summer is screwed, but you guys should try to make it to Evans Creek on July 8th and 9th. You could go there Thursday - Monday too. The Nachees Trail is pretty cool, I've done it a few times in Soobies. -
hillsboro june 11.....WHAT A BLAST!!!!

Trust me, I wanted real bad to be there. Things just didn't go my way on Saturday. My first time ever was in Sean's 01 RS. It was also the first time I'd ever driven an impreza. Although his car was stock, the stricter techs of the old days put it in open class because of an aftermarket muffler. (before the rallitek days) 17 inch wheels with 40 series street tires. Sean won the class, (his first rallyx too) I took sixth in Open out of 20 cars or so. Back in those days you actually got an award for 6th. lol We both stole points half way thru the season. You'll do fine Corky, and I bet you might just be hooked. More familiar faces at the rallyx the better. The comradery and competition is a blast. I have one drop, so it may as well be the one where the car broke. -
You'll find that your VLSD is pretty useless offroad. At speed, with power it works. Stopped while a little off camber. . . useless as an open diff. Pulling a diff out of a legacy is a pain in the butt. It's not that tough to change out an axle. Find an old LSD from an RX, it'll work as a happy medium.

Glad you had fun! Wish I woulda been able to make it, but circumstances were against me on Saturday. Wish most of all that I coulda been there to witness Ed's little 1.8 with plain old Goodyear snow tires whip on that 96 WRX with the turbo and rally tires and everything. You go ED! -
It's pretty much always been closed during the winter months. All the way till June, or whenever the snow melts.

Nobody's hating anything. You asked for advice. You got some very good advice, everybody seems to agree that you should sell it and buy one that's proper for your car. Nuff said.

What kind of tire are you looking for? M/T or A/T? The one above is the tread from a the bridgestone dueler. It looks pretty friggin similar to the Kumho Venture M/T, except it costs about 30 dollars more. Plus you have to factor in shipping and then mounting and balancing. For that price, you may as well just go to Discount Tires and buy Super Swampers. They come in a 27/8.50/15. ------------------------------------------------------------------ There's your general grabber. Doesnt' look like it will grab much at all. ------------------------------------------------------------------- The BFG A/T is a good all around tire, but you'll be disappointed in the mud. But, then again, you're in Texas, probably not a lot of mud. . . -------------------------------------------------------------------- I say go for the gusto! These will make you very happy. ----------------------------------------------------- These look to be good and affordable, decent tread. Wallmart specials. 97 each. Super Sport HT

ezapar replied to Ever Victorious's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Soda? What the hell is chaser good for with nothing to put in it? lol Just kidding. I'll be here doing a strut/spring swap of my own on the wife's OBS. -
Cool, we'll see you down there. Probably afternoon, but who can say? You may get away with stock AWD. That would be hilarious.
-
I'm plannin' on heading up there with whoever will go along. I'm sure my buddy in his FJ and my buddy with his Forerunner will probably come too. Which means his two buddies from work with their Jeep and Ford ranger. We all will have others in our rigs. So that means it'll be a party too. I intend to go up there on Saturday afternoon to set up camp and hang out. Plannin on doing most of the wheeling on Sunday. We camp at the top of 510 or at the end of the far right finger on 320. 6000ft +, overlooking one hell of a view. Who's in?

Wish I woulda had the right # when I was just in Minneapolis last weekend. Safe trip Austin.

Somewhere I've got a pic or video of some landrover discoverys going thru some water deep enough that only about a foot of the roofline snorkel is visible. Hum Vees can go as deep as their snorkels, 6 feet I believe. My little brat never did die here, the exaust was plenty under water. I've kept ea81s running like that plenty of times. The disty on the ea81s is the big killer. Once it gets weet, you've only got a short time till it starts to stall. Subaru had a stock cover to keep water from hitting it as it flows thru the radiator. So with momentum, you can get thru some pretty deep water in a Soob. Although, I've never had use for a snorkel. (carb'ed) I copied good ol' Ralf and just started to cut out an old antifreeze bottle to cover the air cleaner on the weber. With the stock air cleaner, you can just put a red rag over the end. It's works as a water stopper *once*. Just rotate it and go on.
