That's always been a difference between me and Austin. He likes to turn heads, I'm more into being incognito. "Walk softly, carry a big stick."

anyone up for a Seattle meet tommorrow?
ezapar replied to xoomer's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Yeah, let's just go over to Ed's. We gotta talk about seats anyways. I'm babysittin today, so won't be much help with my arms full, but can hang around and BS just the same. -
I don't have the cajones to abuse mine like Austin does his. I paid too damn much for it to beat it. Now if I woulda got the one Austin got. . .

I'm cocky in person Morgan, ask the hundreds of people I've met thru this and other Soob boards. lol ie: NASIOC, SVX.net, Rallitek, ORG. . . The best way to get footage is to kick the passenger out and make him/her film. ***************** You get last word, then I'm closing this. Anybody who really wants to continue the conversation having to do with Soobs vs "other" can do it in the OT Forum. We can post pics of the different rugs that impress us/make us wanna gag and such.

Easy Morgan, quit finding ways and reasons to punch me in my kidneys when I'm not lookin' . . . All I said was that I can speak cuz I have as much time behind the wheel of a Soob as anyone. . . Never said the rest of the world wheels like a whoos. (although I haven't seen a lot of proof as far as pics and vids to prove otherwise) I have this sneaking suspision that if you followed a qroup up 311A, you'd change your mind a little.

I have to argue that a Hatch on 27/9.50 Swampers is a match for just about anything in the snow. We (the HP) find this out every year as we pass the big trucks who've given up as we head into deeper snow. My favorite memory is of dragging a Cherokee with 33 inch bear claws out of being stuck several times just to get him back down the trail. We easily menouvered around while he flailed. My other favorite memory is coming down the trail to find a group of 4Xs (toyotas included) blocking the path cuz they'd given up. Before they could move, I drove into the ditch to get around them, out of the ditch, and on down the trail. BIG CHEERS from the group of amazed people gathered. I was on tall 13 inch snow tires with no lift.

Lemme tell you something Mr. CEO. . . You've been on here for 7 months. I've forgotten more posts that I've made about offroading Soobs than you've made period. You don't have any idea of what I've done to promote Soobs and their offroad capabilities. You have no idea how many times I've gone to bat for our little cars. No idea at all. If I end my statement with "that's my 2 cents" then you should respect that as my opinion and not tell me I should be ashamed for how I feel. Did you bother to read the last sentence of my post? You should be ashamed or yourself for being so absolutley greedy and only thinking of the USMB as a way to make $. How many times have you gone out wheeling with members of this board? Or how many of them have you taken the time to meet other than to sell them something? How many times have YOU vollunteered your time and garage and tools to help someone get their rig ready to wheel? How many lift kits have you installed for free? How many times have you gone out of your way to help anybody on this board without getting paid. How many emails and pms have you answered in the name of honest and informative advice having to do with offroading Soobs? I've forgotten how many times I have done all of the above. You're the one who when I asked for vollunteers to help with making a flyer for the WCSS7 (which I 100% vollunteered my own time and gas and printer and cell phone bill and god knows what else to put together) that said you'd only do it if I put a link to your business. . . Want me to go on? No, you should be ashamed of yourself Shady.

Sorry Clay, I'm done copying and selling them. Good to hear Robert's out there still.

I like to catch the 9:00 ferry, I usually get there just after 10:00. I think Dustyrider is gonna make the trip, you guys could caravan. he's got my #. With any luck, we'll have Ken's Brat up and ready by then too. Tex and Nomica? I kepp trying to get a hold of Svengouli, but he's dropped off the face of the planet. . . :-\ Cabin sleeps 10+.

Dunno where Robert is, he dropped off this last year, I should give him a call. Can't remember just what suspension he had. John actually had 32s, sorry Ken. Robert sported 30s I think. Stock ea81. As far as not noticing Ken's Brat, I think they were all in denial. lol

Very well put. I totally agree. Think about it like this. If you wanna build your Forester to be a capable offroader, you'll need the following: Bigger tires, lift of some kind, and possibly a transfer case or at least a dual range tranny swap. These will set you back at least 2 grand, especially if you have someone else do the labor. This will degrade the on road capability of your forester quite a bit. People tend to forget the Forester is an Impreza with a different body on it. After all is said an done, before you even wheel it, you'll have completely destroyed your car's resale value. You're much better getting a pre built used 4X. As example, I recently saw a 79 Toyota 4x with a 4 inch lift, 33s, roll bar and bumper for $800. The add claimed that it ran and drove fine. Even in the Soob enthusiast's wildest dreams, a lifted Soob won't hold a candle to a solid axle Toy. Trust me, I'm growing to learn that first hand. And I'm pretty sure I can say I speak after as much experience bihind the wheel of off road soobs as anybody on the planet. In any and every condition. This is my opinion after taking my open diff'd toy thru the same trails that I took my last Soob thru with its welded diff. I made it with the Soob, but only after exploding my diff and adding a few pretty good dents to it. The Toy (all but stock, with only a 3 inch lift and blading 33s) easily walked right thru it without a scratch. If you tried that in a Forester with mods, it would kick the shnit out of it. Repairs would be costly. If you really wanna 4X a Soob, then buy an older one and build it. 1500 bucks worth of mods on a 700 dollar 80's Soob will make it pretty capable, and you'll still be able to sell it for @ 1500 if you don't completely trash it. My 2 cents. EZ

Thanks for the good review Morgan. It was a blast, something I'll never forget. While those guys did it in rigs, I did the whole thing on foot carrying a camera and tripod. (with a blown out ACL) lol Like talked aobut before, the camera never shows the true angle. It was a constant up hill climb. The Pebble Garden was one of the most remarkable things I'll ever see. Glad you dug the photos, I threw in the muddy ones just to show you what fun we have, stuck or not. hehe Speakin of photos, did you watch the sunset? We were treated to it after coming down from the mountains, it really cheered us up after 4 rough days and nights. You're one of the very few to get the unedited version. Thanks again. EZ
