  1. looking at a couple of legacy AWD turbos as a possible commuter. my current work situation has me driving 120 miles a day, and I'd like to have something with cruise and AWD that and I don't trust my GL for the trip in the winter. I guess my question is this. one is a 91 at 110k the ad doesn't mention if its an auto/manual. and the other is a 94 with 150k 5sp. I guess my questions are as follows. 1. are there any major concerns with milleage on the turbos? 2. if the 91 is an auto is the auto tranny a POS. 3. what kind of live expectancies do these cars have? are fairly reliable?

  3. Hey guys Im looking for a source to get the gasket that goes between the distributer and the distributer cap. I've tried several parts stores (car quest, O'riely's, and autozone.) and nobody seems to have one or can get one. Can the dealer get one? My nearest dealer is 3 hours away so I haven't checked there yet. My GL has stalled out a couple of times and with the snow season approaching I want to make sure it doesn't get any condensation under the cap again. thanks in advance.
  4. thanks for the replies guys tomorrow i'll get out and see if the heat shielding will just swap over. and if not i may just try and run it with out it, the winters get cold here occasionally in the negatives but its been mild here the last few winters.
  5. is the intake heater hose neccesary for these cars to run right? I recently bought an exhaust system and the new catalitic doesn't have a spot for the intake heater hose to connect as the old one does. should i just use the new piece and block off the other end on the intake? thanks
  6. awesome thanks for the reply, I probably will just take it off and clean it, im putting a full new exhaust on next week so might as well just do it then. then on to the cv shafts anybody have a write up????????? i've never doen them before.
  7. Hey I got the EGR light on in my 86 GL 4x4 5sp. any ideas on what to look for first. not very experianced with troublshooting theese so any help would be appreciated. TIA Jim

  9. swappin heads on my ea82 dl and i was wondering if lifters cam and rockers were interchangable, or should they go back with the ones they came out of?
  10. Still got a head tailgate? Finally got mine off, a mechanic that I had put a Helicoil in it went in to the valve when he was putting in the helicoil. well let me know if i can buy one from you, If you had a complete head I would be very much in debt .
  11. i'll look into that initially thats what i thought though mechanic says something is definately under the intake valve, and that one of the lifters is colapsed. I will be replacing the belts as well though

  13. will do thanks Im gonna pick it up here in a couple of days and get started im gonna replace them anyways i mean why go to this much work and leave them in? I don't know the history of the car anyways bought it a month ago to drive my daily commute 120 miles total to keep the miles off my S.H.O. like the car though and might get addicted

  16. sorry I had the car at the mechanic for timing belts he tore off the covers said it wasn't the timing belts, (car was running hot, and pretty weak) he said 1 and 3 cyclinder are getting no compression so he tore the covers off and said the head needs to come off and go to a machine shop, gave me a quote of around 1,000 bucks, I have yet to see whats wrong with it as its 60 miles away I figured I could take a day off if its not to difficult and possibly just put on a new head, any thoughts? thanks alot for the responses I really appreciate it im pretty dumb when it comes to these motors
  17. how big of job is it to pull the heads on a ea82 also does anyone know where i could get a head for it? I might have to scrap the car if i can't fix this damn problem appearently there's some issue with the valves.

Hey im having a timing issue, (86 dl 1800 carb) if this seems weird it might be it seems the drivers side bank is off time is that usual maybe the belt slipping???? only had the car about 3 weeks, went to do a tune up plugs wires rotor cap, now car has noticabally less power and it seems like that bank is out of sync, is it possible while pulling out the rotor that it got demeshed and out of sync there? or would it probably be a belt? also how big of a job is this I really don't know of any subaru mechanics near me the last guy i took it to thought it was a carb issue???
  19. hey I got a 86 dl i just bought, went to do a tune up and found besides the fact that the electroids on the plugs were completely gone that my number 4 cyclinder hole was stripped, does anybody got any ideas, helicoil????? or try to find a new head, tried a thread chaser and car would barely start when i got it all put back together and exhuasted vapors out that cyclinder.
