  1. All right. I can't figure it out. When she idles, the oil pressure sometimes goes to 0 (or really close). When I rev it, the pressure goes up to a healthy range, but only while the RPMs are up. I can't figure it out. The oil level is good. The oil is fresh (400 miles since change). I need help. This looks bad. I don't really know what it is doing to the engine when this happens, but the outcome can't be good... The car has 256k miles and it runs like a champ (except for this). Does anyone know what the problem is, how to fix it, and what it's doing to my little boxer?
  2. I (kind of) want to swap an EG33 into a Gen I Outback (as mentioned in another thread), but I have no idea of how to get ahold of the engine, or how much to pay for one. I don't even know what would generally come with the engine from the j/y. Any ideas/help?
  3. Eh, got nothin' on the first one... But I'm looking into the Paeco thing. That link works...
  4. That's what I was thinking. But, it's still a gamble... I like the EG33 idea. I will look into it. That sounds pretty cool and it seems like a rare thing. There's something about having a 6-cyl Gen I Outback that seems pretty sweet. Especially if it's the only one running around. Is there much of an aftermarket following for EG33s? Would many parts be available if they break/need upgrading?
  5. Yeah, hood scoops are cool...But I don't know. Maybe an EJ25 is the way to go. It's tough to decide. I mean, I guess the HG isn't THAAAT prevalent, right?
  6. There are 13" wheels available. Some Justys came with them. I owned one. (Don't know where to get them, though...)
  7. I dug. There is nothing there. The link reaps nothing. I'll keep looking through that forum, though.
  8. I guess I'll have to join. I'll do that later today, then read it. Until then, this thread remains open to suggestions, comments, rants and assistance with my dilemna...
  9. WA is the Sube state. We're all so ghetto, we can only afford Subarus (if we're poor Washingtonians). If folks have lots of $$$$, they understand that the ONLY choice for a winter car is a Subaru. ...This must be a very intelligent state...
  10. Has anyone here done the whole stroker thing? How did it go? What kind of results did it make?
  11. Stroker kits for EJ22 or EJ25? Anyone got info on them? Oh, and thanks for that.
  12. Okay...I kind of like the EG33 idea...I didn't even think of that. Does anyone know if that would fit? Also, the wiring...that's going to be a HUGE pain in the bum, isn't it? Any tips/tricks to get that figured out? Oooh, and how cheaply can a good EG33 be had for? And as for the EJ25...I don't know much about them. The Phase IIs began in '99, right? So a '99+ would be best, right? How would that bolt up?
  13. I have no desire to "pimp it out". I only want some more grunt from the engine. The amount of HP I want to gain is really subjective: If I get a turbo motor in there, it will cost me $______. But, the off-road ability of the car will suffer, being that the car will have little low-end power. I want to know what I can do to the engine for the same $______ without a turbo motor. So here are the real questions: -What will it cost to have a professional drop in an EJ22T (I won't be able to do it...)? -What is a good price for a turbo motor, and... -Which one do I use? Stick with the EJ22T? EJ25T? EJ20G? -With that same $, how much power could I push to stock block to? You see, I'm not really sure what I want yet (turbo or N/A). I need to weigh the options. Does anyone have opinions regarding this?
  14. How much power have people gotten out of these things without a turbo? A turbo would be cool, but I would still like some low-end grunt for climbing the snow-covered mountainsides around here. Does anyone on the board have a (semi)high-output N/A EJ22? Also, if I did want to get an EJ22T in there, what would it take? It couldn't be that bad, right? And...does anyone know of a good place that sells performance parts for this car/engine? I can only seem to find EJ25 performance parts.
  15. Sweet... Black - the only color there should be for cars... (Dang, that looks good wet...then again, so does everything...)
  16. Okay...here we go... I REALLY want a '96 Outback (with the manual tranny). I pretty much have my heart set on that car...and I will find one. So here's the deal: I want to give the ol' EJ22 a little more go-juice. Stock HP just isn't enough for a 17-year-old hoodlum. I WANT POWER! So I ask you experts...what should I do? I live with mommy and daddy, so my bills are nearly $0. All my money can be dumped into this rig (I have a pretty decent job). So what do I do first? What parts are available? How much HP can the drivetrain, transmission, stock block, etc. handle?
  17. Does anyone know what kind of MPG they really do make? I've heard 40MPG claims, but are there any owners out there that can give an accurate report?
  18. The first thing I thought was... "Hmm...400HP...40 mpg...it's do-able." I am trying ever-so-hard to get my mother to trade in her '05 Sentra SE for one of those. I just might have pushed her hard enough. Hopefully she does it. I really want to drive that thing and see just how gutless it really is.
  19. Note to all who write after this... NEVER argue with Wikipedia...it DOES know everything... The only way to know how they increased ground clearance is to know exactly where they measured on the car. It seems that no one has come to a conclusion with that...
  20. Try driving in 3rd...see if it does it then. (Unless 65 in 3rd is, like, way high RPMs)
  21. It's an Outback sedan... They don't all have dual-tone paint these days, you know... It's an Outback sedan. I promise.
  22. Heck yes...I have shoved so much crap in the back of my wagon... Right now it contains: -Cinder block -Jumper cables -First aid kit -Lawn chair (permanently in the upright position - for chillin') -5 qt. motor oil -1 gal. washer fluid -Brake fluid -Grease -(approximately) 6 changes of clothes -4 sweaters -2 rain jackets -2 winter coats -1 furry parka -2 pair rock climbing shoes -2 rock climbing chalk bags -1.5 lbs. climbing chalk -1 case (32 rolls) athletic tape -30' chain -30' tow strap -2 clevises -2 hooks -2 rolls duct tape -1 roll camo duct tape -3 rolls electrical tape -100' nylon rope And some other crap...
