  1. ive done it the other way, but i have done plenty on gl's. what about a 4wd xt drveline in a 2wd gl? that is what i am driving
  2. four cylinders are better than 12. can you say coloni?
  3. I suppose i should air out the car. I have it all closed up tighter than a wad to keep dust from the shop out. Soon i will be able to washe the car. I should have cleaned up the spilled beer before installing the carpet! the carpet may have to come back up to fix the rust hole on the passenger side, and i forgot to stick the fuel door lever through the hole in the carpet on the driver side. I just wanted the car put back together for show purposes for now, until i get into more body work and the rx body kit.
  4. I have had good luck with Felpro. With the felpro kits, the manufacture of each part is listed. I have gotten kits that include oem manufacture 'NOK' made in japan seals. Sometimes you get seals from national made in canada/mexico/usa, some parts in taiwan. With felpro and subarus, some specific gaskets or seals will be OEM nok or fuji as these are the only manufacturers for specific head gaskets, valve covers and grommets, and others.
  5. This is true for the fornt, but might i mention the 2wd rear struts are LONGER, since the bottom mount on a 2wd trailing arm is lower than a 4wd
  6. I am looking to build that up as a spare, hopefully on a 2.5 block with cam, header. It may supercede the engine i have now, so long as the intake fits the same. more pics of last week. These pics were of the last weeks's work. I'll let the cat out of the bag and say that this thing runs and would drive once i bleed the brake. Excess harness trimming Terminal strips! This will make the harness quick changeable to the car body carrier bearing mount carrier mount bolt thrugh floor working fuel pump I had to relocate the fuel filter due to the lines being hooked up wrong(using carb fuel lines and vent lines for charcoal canister), and this fits better anyway Interior going back together. I used some meguiars plastic conditioner to treat all of my interior. It has a pleasent fruit or berry smell. So the car has been shut tight over the last few days, and when i open the door, it smells like barbecue sauce? I did spill a beer when the carpet was out
  7. subframe drop? do you ont have a suspension lift? a proper lift would retain the same geometry as stock, but just 4 inches away from the body. you may have to make a drop shackle of some sort to mount the diff lower. your axles are popping because you have 4 inches of lift presumably wiyh no body lift. It is a common know fact that suspension lift only is hard on axles and causes premature failure, because of the extreme angle. Your axles are probably limiting the travel of the suspension, as the weight of the wheels are pullling on the circlips inside the axle boot, and when flexed enough, it separates when the wheel moves through the rest of its allowable travel.
  8. We had a similar symptom in an EJ brat, that the revs were limited to 4000 rpm until we hooked up the VSS signal wire.
  9. Your sympltoms are typical of a coolant temp sensor issue. You might just get by cleaning the terminal. It should at least improve a little. The sensor is on the back of the intake with a brown plug, shaped like the plugs on the injectors. It's a little tight near the turbo. You can remove the '4wd turbo' plenum to get at it easy. You would be good to replae the hose that is on the turbo between the thermostat as preventive maintenance, since that hose can fail if its the original old hose. Keeping the cooling system 100% is the single most important thing you can do to keep this engine reliable
  10. The forester has the ej25d engine. use that for your search terms. The trans is called a 4eat, if you want to read about how it functions. The forester is basically an impreza with a taller roof and taller suspension. You definitely found the right website for all of your subaru needs:banana:
  11. where is my head at today. I did indeed mean 36mm axle nut. Just to note, 32mm is for the 5 lug hubs.
  12. The engine i use originally had the big football filter piece that would fit whre an intercooler would be, and i had the idea of making a shaker style or scoop induction out of it if i had a spare hood to mangle up.(map sensor style) I wouls suggest for the sake of ease, to use a ej22 airbox and maf to make it all work lile it would be facotory. Since mine is a MAP sensor, the MAF would just be a dummy to join the intake boot to the airbox, and to look better than some jank pvc home depot cobble job.
  13. Well, since the car is complete and drives, might as well do what i can, If the car is a bust, the parts are at least worht the purchase price. If it can do one season, it's worth it. Couldnt pass it up for 200 though
  14. no, since every one i see is rusted out. There is the aftermarket option for stainless if you are into $$$. Otherwise, BOSAL is good for replacement parts
  15. Holy rusty metal batman! Don't let this pic fool you, the 2nd one is the truth. Seat belts just pulled off the frame shifter linkage is much different than ea82 Mystery dealer add-on switch/ This car has all kinds of weird electrical wires, wiring bypasses, and had been wired for a 'car phone'
  16. the easiest and most economical thing to do would be to salvage one at a junkyard that you can pull yourself. They are all over the place and rarely fail. i imagine you can get one for about 30 bucks offer I have seen non-abs legacy brighton, and it has a little junction block in place of the abs unit, and the junction block looks identical to the ones in the back of ea82 and ea81 subarus near the gas tank to split the lines to the rear wheels
  17. I vote ignition switch. jump a wire to start the car. Install a pushbutton, or a relay to solve the issue
  18. I have an ej22 in my 86 gl. It is a later model ej, but i have retrofitted first generation ej22 intake tube using an ea82 airbox. I will have to modify the end of the ej hose to the maf, and use a dummy ea82 mpfi maf to fit on the ea82 metal airbox. I could have gone with the ej airbox for a direct fit, but i like the metal ones better than the ej plastic ones. If i were dong this in an ea81, i would cut out the spare jack and relocate the battery to that side uing ea82 starter cables, and mount an ea or ej airbox on that side. If you ever se a turbo ea81, it looks like an ea82 under the hood with airbox and battery setup. I also had the idea of using some sort of ram intake with one filter, with the cone filter housed inside an ea82 airbox to hold it in place and keep dirt and water off the filter
  19. Yes, this is inded a stripped hub. Only one axle will spin; the one with the least resistance, as the front diff is an open diff. You can replace the hub with any one form any 85-94 car of the same body type sedan/wagon/coupe/xt with 4 lugs. 32mm axle nut even a hub from the older body style 80-84 wagon/sedan and thru 87 and 89 brats and hatchbacks will work if you have a hard tme finding parts. remove the axle nut, and the 4 bolts that hold the hub to the rotor. you can do the reapir without removing the axle or the caliper.
  20. It could be titled in wisconsin with a copy of the registration/title and a bill of sale.........save the vin plates!
  21. MAybe you can consider wisconsin. I say this because i moved here from indiana and do a lot better for myself since then. Midwest culture is what you would be used to, and more diversity/culture in the urban areas. I learned a lot and was exposed to a lot more in milwaukee, and i feel more worldly and open to different ideals compared to rural indiana. The geography here is similar to where i am from, and the watehr is similar, but we actually get snow instead of ice storms in the winter, and the summer is as nice and as long, but not as hot and humid. The winters are not any colder. If you are lust looking to get out of the flatlands, WI is next door, and seems to as a state, be more self reliant and sufficient. I am suggesting wisconsin because it was good to me edit: the subarus are definitely more plentiful here, at least cheap newer ones. there are still more ea82's around than i ever saw in indiana
  22. As long as you do not lose so much coolant you overheat. Keep the coolant up and you will get by. You will know the coolant is too low when the heater goes cold when driving, and you can add some before it overheats. If the leak is profuse, you can just use water, and then replace with new coolant once you fix the leak

  24. Yeah, i was going to do so, but my woman stole me away from the computer.....
  25. Sometimes i get sad about soobs going t pasture, but then again, there is no point in being upset about circumstances i cannot control. But i do what i can; beat them to the junkyard! The PO of my xt at least had the heart to find some enthusiasts to take his car, as he could have easily called a tow truck over the last years if he didnt take the time to do so. That, i appreciate!
