ok, then i guess we can rule out the timing belt, and focus on the alternator. the alternator has an internal voltage regulator, so replacing the alternator would be a good place to strart. can you get it to start with a jump? -
it was all fun, got to see WV and morgan town, i dont know what i saw more of, subarus or hot chicks! got to ride in an xt6 for the first time, see how they run. we did a bang-out job on the car, but if was pissoble it could have been done in one day. we will definately make the trip again..just to hang out:D

Road Trip II: TrashWagon's RETURN

everything is all set to go, 2 weeks away, and i am within 50 bucks of my goal to save, the rx has been reliable for the past 4000 miles. i have an extra battery. i can bring a throwout bearing "just in case" as i would not be afraid to replace it off the side of the road, if it so needed to be we will be installing a roof rack on the RX, and we will borrow the rear trailing arm off my car because the wheel baring started to act up coming back from WV with a motor, trans, fenders, and head in the back -

will it start with a jump start? if it does, you know it runs, but if it doesnt, what about a BROKEN TIMING BELT an alternator will go bad, and the car will slowly die as the battery goes dead. but if the car DIES ALL AT ONCE i would say timing belts take off the distributor cap, and see if the rotor turns when you crank th motor. if its not turning, you have a broken belt -
what about mounting the disty backwards? take off the mounting flange and turn it upside down on the ea81. mount the disty body 180 backwards, but the rotor in time. then run the wires 180 to the cap, so they are in time with the rotor

can you handle a trashwagon!? dont worry, its all fit for travel. suppose you drive and let zanny dook ride with myoss feece, to give him a break. we can rotate who is with the interviewer, and keep 2 people to each car, you could get exclusive interviews with each individual, in rotation. give everyone a chance to tell their personal story and all, to add to characterism -

if i could find the camera i would have a pic of "multi configuration mode" of the RX. i have this idea that when one side or the other of the back seat is folded down, the camera can be mounted and face either the driver or the passenger up front. maybe a 'pod mount to raise it up enough to see out the window/hatch -
you will have to lengthen the wires on the distributor to reach the coil

1800 pistons in a 1600?

i like the injector in the manifold idea. if you have to have that made, why not cosider constant fuel injection? you could build up 2 manifolds, one for mpfi, one for cis, and thus the car would be modular, just leave the mpfi wires disconnected, plug them back in between swaps >>>>>>>sidenote about the heads, the fat case 85+hatch motor heads have the same valves as the ea81, 83 and 84, and my comparisond prove that ea81T valves are the same size as ea81 -
i dont know, i think that would be a sign of the cone washer or axle nut being loose, hub somewhat wobbly. it will be more like smack sounding type click, relative to deceleration the trashwagon was making clickity noises, as the threads on the axle shaft were a little boogered, but it broke the outer cv downshifting to an exit ramp in wisconsin on my way west i would check the axle nut torque and the cone washer. mine clicked because i knew of the condition, the axle broke from a bad boot, not torque related

my wagon was once lifted, home made, but i took it out(handling!) i had chevy 16 inch truck roms, 6x140mm, k-6 blazer style, with camaro 205/55 tires my intent was to instal the 5 lug suspension to mt existing ea82 parts, using legacy/impreza strut, xt knuckle, xt or legacy axle and try to fit a 23 spline doj from an ea82 2wd auto TURBO, and see if it would fit on a 2wd legacy axle. this will be necessary for my 5spd dual range part time, non turbo trans with the xt6 lower control arms on your ea82 mounts, you will be able to fit the xt6 or legacy ball joint (mine is drilled out ea82, xt caliper and knuckle, rotor for the front parking brake) so with that effect, if the axle doj idea can be proven (trashwagon 5 has the part i need for a mockup) you can go with the legacy strut assembly and use wrx style brakes( for my 5spd dual range, part time, 23 spline shaft) but the setup from the impreza/legacy splnes will be 25, same as an rx full time tranny but the rear suspension is limited to the xt6 rear brakes(xt6 had ea82 rear suspenion, but 5 lug brakes, ea82 spindles and axles) since the ea82 style parts are a different design of impreza and legacy my intent was to turbo the 5spd dual range like how my 83 ea81 turbo wagon was converted from automatic to 5spd dual range. i have the parts from my 87 turbo wagon, wich now has an ej22 conversion(existing mpfi is still intact, legacy ecu and harness under hood) but if i can get this ej22 to work, i would entertain the idea of putting it in trashwagon 5, for my off road, and make the 87 turbo like its supposed to be(it came with a bad motor, i put a carb in there) to be my RX KILLER. right now its a legacy killer (wagon)

I am Miles Fox! i am from NE Indiana, butler on us6 and state road 1 someone needs to compile and list people. or how about a self generating form page? (ok everyone, post your locations!) -
i had a chevy spectrum/isuzu imark, and i would catch air every dasy coming hme from work, and the axles chunked and jerked the wheel, but they kept going. i drove these poor axles 130 miles one way to probation and weekend jail 6 or so times. i ended up having the front wheel fall off and the car junked before any axle ever let go

DAMMIT CORKY! just kidding.. sometimes the occasional "battle of wits" can be quite fun,,,as long as it doesnt get personal:eek: -
on panasonics and inboard hitachis: flip the alt up out of the way. take out the 12mm bolt underneath. unbolt the 14mm that holds the bracket to the intake. undo the ps tensioner pulley boly, and the hexagonal long nut(12mm) remove the pulley. behind the pulley is a big long 14mm hex, remove it. under the compressor, the far end of the bottom of the bracket LOOSEN the 14mm bolt, and the ac/alt assy will come off, flip it out of the way

i had an axle outer end go out on me. i drove around for a few days when finally i made a left turn, and the axle popped out and tore up my caliper, brake line, and bent a tie rod. if the outer end goes, turn the whll all the way, and pop it out with a prybar, and remove the other end from the trans if the inner end goes, it wont pop out so readily(unless maybe catching air on RR tracks, extreme suspension travel

the napa in butler knows when we walk in, subaru parts are in order. we are the only ones to get soob parts, every one has to be ordered, but we get good local service, and that goes a long way. i always buy my gas and smokes at their local gas station, too you know you are a soob freak when the local cops dont even bother anymore, "every time i see you youre driving a different subaru" and "i almost called a pursuit, you are supposed to STOP when i pull you over" walked away from that one with a made up bill of sale and no insurance you go to jail and some kid there you dont know remembers riding in your subaru, just from the mention of trashwagons you would rather do timing belts on a soob for free rather than be paid to change tranny fluid in some GM. why in the hell do GM not have a DRAIN PLUG on the tranny? oh well, it was a quick 50 bucks(rear shocks too) -

Road Trip II: TrashWagon's RETURN

would you know it, i was bumpin Nine inchNails: Closer at wcss5. the guy with the $13,000 hatch felt inclined to turn on his 6x9's as if to compete with the mighty ROOF OF BOOM. oh yeah, the cd is waiting with the car, i should bring a copy of DAFT PUNK: HOMEWORK (would be good for sountrack) as far as getting a subaru, i would prefer it over the toyota, moreso that the subaru is more versatile with parts swapping, you can make an astounding rig with the right combinbation of STOCK subaru parts, subarus are modular, and multi-configurable for example, trashwagon6: its a GL-10 mpfi turbo. it had a spfi block, with a earliar model carb. the front axle broke, so i ran in 4wd, the rear axle live. i bent the rear suspension, so i swapped on 5 lugs in back. so the last time i drove my car before throwing in an xt6 tranny and legacy 2.2 motor, it had 4 lug wheels in front, 5 lugs in back, a 3.7 final gear tranny and a 3.9 rear differential so how far can you go with the film. as in independent festivals? indie film network? how long would it be? gots to have some DAFT PUNK in the soundtrack. wouldnt it be cool to find an animator to throw miles fox in the fur into the mix? i think some cuts of cop chase scenes would add to the effect(like a prequel, re-enact the first half of the adventure i would like to plan the itenerary according to the first trips mishaps, such as air in fuel lines in chicago, the broken axle in onalaska/lacrosse exit quick pick gas station(cops involved), our luggage falling off the car in minnesota, the girls we stopped to help in their stranded SUBARU FORESTER (we left them alone, cause the sheriff was on the way) and the GAS TANK RUPTURE in south dakota, we get out of the car, robert goes "look the gas is leaking" and went inside. there i was laying in a parking space sized puddle of GASOLINE, with my finger against the hole in the gas tank, waiting for him to come out and help, all the while people are moving their cars out of the encroaching puddle of gas. also, off the side of the road front wheel alignment in BUTTE montana, the narrow speeding escape from the montana patrol, and the green subaru that we passed us in montana, we passed him in idaho, and he passed us in washington as we were running out of gas. i am going to think of how i will present myself in front of the camere, my style of dress, and my clever "catch phrases" myoss feece and iu can put on quite a show with the verbals! probably a lot of fat girl speak will be directed at me, oh well i think the film should be at least 2 hours, as you know it wont be boring! anyway, i just made 200 bucks working on cars today alone, so now i am sitting on $450 in the bank, and 75 in my pocket for the WV trip -
1800 pistons in a 1600?
MilesFox replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the whole idea of having lower compression is you can squeeze more VOLUME of air/fuel charge, thus burning more per stroke, more power. so i would go with the lower compression, rather than lower boost. simple physics. there was a topic about this, try searching compression+volume+turbo and see if you can find it -
oil blowby could be making its way past the oil fill tube mounting gasket, as that is what it appeared to look like on a soob i had serviced today
