  1. my bad, jumped the gun. but it does get old when someone posts, and someone else throws some remark to dismiss the post or the idea. seems like when SOMEONE in particular tries to shoot me down, i come back with some clever trick up my sleeve. i see a bit of silence as of recent. oh well, i keep doing what i do, and people recognize that, and appreciate it
  2. things are falling into place too well, i just made 150 bucks on a timing belt job, and will make probably another 50 bucks tonite servicing a Blazer. and i wonder why im scrubbing toilets for a living?
  3. (from the original "you know youre obsessed with subarus" thread from the old board 17: you renewed the same plate 2 years in a row, with no insurance, and use the plate on whatever car you are driving 18: you wish the cops would chase you in your favorite off road spot 19: the cops actually chase you in your favorite off road spot, and you WASTED them! the cops laugh at the car as the tow trauck takes it to impound you can say your current ride has only been impounded ONCE manage to keep a turbo wagon driveable with spfi block, floppy carb, broken axle, and rear wheel drive with a bent trailing arm you have driven 45 miles on a rim the local used car dealer calls you to work on his customer's subaru out of 10 subarus you kow of in the area, you end up with 9 of them you go out of state to whip togethe a soob over the weekend you take a deadbeat turbo car, tear down the motor, fix all the gaskets, and have it running in the same day 5spd conversion and a motor swap done over the weekend 400 miles away trashwagons 2, 4, 5, and 6
  4. the optical type distys serve as the crank angle sensor, so the ecu knows when to fire. dont you know this? why ask if you do?
  5. john, we will stop by friday evening to get that motor for trogdor. glad to see you got it running. i had faith, wish we had more time, but we had the work cut out for you. how does it drive/tranny?
  6. one of the timing belt cover bolts threds into the water pump on the top corner, but if you take the bolt out, you can slip the pump out from under
  7. well right now the wagon needs its engine computer wired up, and some starter mounting issues need to be solved, plus i will be trusting a home made bellhousing adapter for 5000 miles the RX has the same internal dimensions as the wagon, split rear folding seat. the only difference is the slope of the rear hatch takes some headroom in the wayback, butit still has the same sq. ft of floor in back, my 6'2" tall can lay back there and stretch out we may go as far as mounting a roof rack, we would have to pull theheadliner, but a roof rack would stow all the take up room stuff on top we want to pack minimal, for room, just clothes and stuff, we can tie down on top, and have cameras in the back. once we get there, we can divide up the cargo as far as supplies, just bring emergency type stuff, a credit card would be good for EMERGENCY situations, but only if we cant pull thru with our own devices. a laptop wpuld be good for text documenting, and digital sstill pics, if you have one. but dont stress the laptop maybe a STRONG MAGNETIC mount would be good for the camera? how big is the camera, we can be creative with the mounting in the car
  8. the xt6 motor will bolt onto ea81 and ea82 trannies, i would say go after it for its motor and 5lugs. 5 lugs will fit on ea82's, and will fit in my ea82 modified ea81 wagon maybe get the 4cyl xt and put all the xt6 stuff in it
  9. Tim, glad you found the board. i see your rapid response, i just dug this thread up after it dropped off the page. i take it yopu have been lurking? i can conjure up some scrap metal or electrical conduit and weld up some sort of contraption. i dont know of any tripod mounts, but my digital still pics has a thread for one, maybe i can find a bolt that fits and make mounting studs? what are the tread demensions of the camera mounts? i think a hood mount would be best, at least we can watch the camera and catch it before it falls off i like the idea of you coming over here first, we can pack and load up accordingly then, and get some film of the local scene, and the office environment if you need directions or phone numbers, check this. http://www.warpthree.com/milesfox/subaru/subaruframe.htm yeah, thats the swap meet plan, but its the same place i am at, and all of my crew here at work i dont know of any video cameras off hand, i know the boss has one, but i dont know if he can loan it out. maybe his church has one we can use? try posting in the marketplace forum, someone here on the board may sell one, or borrow one, you never know..... 1: both cars cig lighters work. i can also wire in auxilary 12 sockets in the car, in other locations too(or outside the car also) 2: we can install a CB radio in the car we leave in. trashwagon5 has a cb, but iwill have to bring an antenna with. i can get a phone card for emergency calls, or to call members who would like us to stop by on the way thru 3: if you come in on I-69, get off on the kendallville/waterloo exit, head easton us6 about 10 miles. us 20 and the toll road both cross 69. if you take the bus, there is a stop in FREMONT, IN, right off 69 and the toll road, at a PILOT truck stop. if you do that, we can pick you up if you have any plans or tricks for navigating around chicago, lets hear it, i would like to stay off the TOLLROAD, but every road in chicago is a toll road "expect long delays" the sign says from fot wayne. that toll road is the 3rd most congested road, following los angeles and huston
  10. you would need to make a bellhousing to fit a 4eat 2wd to a ea motor. but with the work involved, you may as well go the other way, ej22 to ea tranny with all my leftover ej22 wiring harness, i am going to cut out and isolate the TCU and its harness, i could live with an ej22 2wd auto conversion for something else if my trashwagon ej22 to 5spd doesnt hold up
  11. check the MAF too.you can take the electrical prt off the housing, but be carefu, as there are 2 filaments inside. check the filaments to see if they are broken jims wagon ran like dook, the MAF had a bad filament, replaced that, and it ran half like dook. we cleaned he IAC valve, but no effect replaced the throttle sensor, and ALL GOOD NOW. the old one would rattle when you shook it maybe it would be cheaper to get a whole intake assembly from a known running car, rather than buy each component separately?
  12. sawp in ea82 suspension, then to xt6 5 lugs, slight fabbing, but easy to do if you can run a cutting wheel/angle grinder and a welder
  13. some soobs came with a factory hitch. hit the junkyards!
  14. as far as turbos, it would be better and more economical to swap in an entire turbo motor. the motor swap its self will be all bolt-in, but you will have to get heavy-duty into the electrical, to wire in the ecu and harness that came from the car the turbo motor came form you would have to swap the whole motor, because the turbo intake is dual ports, and will not bolt up to the carb motor. get the accel super stock coil, about 30 bucks. you can gap the plugs to .045-.050, and run one of theose "custom fit" cut to length make your own accel 8mm wire sets, about the same price
  15. you will have to take off the timing belt covers to remove the water pump, so you may want to consider at least changing the belts, if not going as far as oil pump seal and crank/cam seals there are a 110mm and 105mm water pumps. the longer one has the pulley slip onto the studs, whereas the shorter one has the pulley BOLT ONTO the water pump. you will be able to tell which one you have as soon as you remove the clutch fan here are some technical how-tos with pics http://www.warpthree.com/milesfox/subaru/service/service.htm
  16. why not use the later "fat case" ea71 heads(like in 85+hatches) and have them machined out to fit the turbo fittings and the injector bosses from my comparisons, ea71 heads will line up at the combustion chambers, but the boly holes are closer. it almost looks you can slot the holes, if it wnt hurt the integrity of the heads i also noticed that the ea71 heads have a smaller combustion chamber
  17. all is coming together nicely. the trashwagon6 has the ej22 and 5 lugs installed, and the wiring harness is almost complete the rx has held up some 3000 miles already since the carb block swap. there is a rip in the front axle boot, and the rar boot is torn. we removed both rear axles and had made a trip to columbus, oh and back with the DIFF LOCK, some 420 miles round trip we plan to re-boot the front axles, and keep the rears uninstalled, but have them as spares. the trip to columbus proved thet we can average 200 miles in 3 hours, and half a tank. we're going to west virginia 400 miles this weekend, and ZANNY DOOK will get a crash course in hiway, stick shift, and interstate navigation so far i have 325 bucks in the bank, and a pending loan app for 500 bucks. working for jim and alleyboy helps a lot with the funding the used car dealer in edon ohio called on me to service a customers car. i am working at my rate of 20 bucks an hour, times book hour rate. an axle book rates for a couple hours, i can do one in 30 minutes! things are looking good, and i have money flowing into my anus for someone who is parpetually broke! most likely we will take the RX, its proven reliable, it has new ball jojts, soon to get new axle boots. but i still would like to get trashwagon 6 running by then
  18. http://www.warpthree.com/milesfox/subaru/swapmeet.htm Here is the Subaru Alliance Swap Meet '04 front page. there is a upper midwest general map, a local map of the meet and surrounding town, and a layout of the building and premises, and whats there read and you will find the address, phone number, and email contacts still plenty of time to plan for the meet. and anyone who has to drive a considerable distance is encouraged to stay the night, we will set up camping at the meet
  19. tom, my legacy harness lso has the diode, on the schematics it says"diode (mpfi) i think one from a turbo harness should work, might want to study up on the diodes electrical properties to make the comparison. it only connects to one wire off the ecu, then to the alt circuit fuse or relay somewhere, its a yellow wire from the alt circuit, and a green wire from the ecu
  20. after reading your other post first, then reading this, maybe the cam had the valve open when it sat, and stayed open as far as an "in the car fix" tou may go as far as pulling the cam cover, or even the cam tower and cam, and try smacking the valve spring with a hammer to loosen it. and if that doesnt work, at least you are torn down enough to pull the head
  21. find an ecu pinout chart and schematics for both the ea82 and the brat weed out what you dont need from the ea82 harness, cut off the wores and re-wire them if you have to, to shorten them a lot of the same color wires will eventually junction to one wire and a lot of the same colored wires betewwn the brat an ea82 will go to the same things, like the ignition circuit, battery power, and ground i am doing an ej22 swap, and i just cut off all the ends i needed, then soldered them to the ecu after i cut it out. i left about 6 inches of wire off the ecu clips study the pinouts and the schematics to get an idea, compare similarities before you cut any wires
  22. the RX rolled a lot easier, felt lighter too. we would run out west like this, and bring the rear axles in case a front axle went out (if we dont fix the boot by then). and i am super confident it would hold up all the way
