  1. some donuting action, and a bent wheel! some nice cover-alls to crawl under a soob in
  2. for those you would need the subaru air setup, or at least the right piping for the air lines and a valve to fill them, release air. but anyway, some gl-10's and xts had the air ride suspension.
  3. jims wagon did that, and it turned out to be a bad filament on the MAF you can take the module off the maf body to check it out' you might need dielectric grease(like for ign module) to put it together, not sure
  4. i would agree that the volt reg is going out. compare price to a new VR or a different alternator. you will have to take tha lternator apart to change the vr, but i havent had an alternator apart...
  5. go to msn groups and search for rguyver he used to be on the board-- anyway, he has ea82 front end in a hatch, and has made shocks that connect to the swaybar mount. go look there, that will be in mind with what you want to do
  6. how about i trade you a Subaru Alliance shirt...? i didnt get any coal, but i would be happy to give you my Dook Nougat
  7. but it woudnt hurt to put a 6 dollar seal in to see if that helps, either. while its apart inspect the parts with the lifters already out of the car, you might as well clean them. not hard to do at all.
  8. maybe the strut itself is bad. although the strut does not support the weight of the vehicle, it does however control the rate at which it bounces up and down. so if a strut is bad, that will allow the suspension to move fast enough to bottom out. just some consideration...
  9. since you are using the ea81 motor, the ea82 flywheel is what you will use, but you will have to grind away metal on the bottom of the engine bellhousing, to allow room for the teeth on the flywheel. you will use the ea81 flywheel bolts, although smaller in dia. than the holes themselves. but the flywheel wiss center on the crankshaft anyway you winn also be required to use the ea82 clutch disc and pressire plate to the transmission you are using its possible to use the ea81 flywheel, the pressure plate will bolt up either way, but the ea82 clutch disc(which you must use) may be too big for the ea81 flywheel. search around, its all over the board. but anything you dsont find, just ask
  10. if anything a loose particle in the engine got in the lifter. not to worry. how is your oil pressure. sometimes its caused by a bad oil pump seal, and air gets in the system. but not to worry, an oil pump seal change is recommemded any time you have the engine simewhat apart. my buddy's RX just started to do it, still holds strong oil pressure. nothing bad, if anything, clean the lifters by hand, he was going to build up his turbos on a carbureted block if worst comes to worse, and you have the motor apart for other reasons (or for this reason for that matter) you can take the cam boxes off, and remove the lifters and clean them by hand but its not anything that will keep you from a road trip. i mayself pulled a brave maneuver taking my ride cross country, broken axle in wisconsin, gas tank failure in so. dakota, but NEVER had a problem with the motor if anything will leave you stranded is a broken timing belt, so you might as well want to replace your timing belts for good measure, and while at it, do the oil pump seal.
  11. put a strong screwdriver(one you dont mind breaking, or a junk one) between the middle of the caliper and the brake rotor vents. that will help keep things from turning. having a friend to stand on the assembly and hold it still will help...
  12. sounds like yer better off than i was with the pictures. my bolts were seized up in the manifold itself, nor a punch or drill worked, thus resorting to sawing the manifold to get the heads off. onr thing to consider on the next intake job: if the bolt seems to turn a little, bit with resistance, turn the bolt ever so slightly, turn in a turn, back out half a turn, in a turn, out half a turn, you get the idea. the idea it that although the bolt may turn with resistance, dont apply so much torque that the bolt snaps. its one of those things that you have to exercise some "technique", but sometimes a technique has to be developed from experience, even if that means botching a job the first time, so you know what not to do the next time around. good luck so far roberts wagon is doing just fine with only one(short) bolt on the passenger intake, with new gaskets... oh yeah, the yellow and red can PB blaster, its good stuff....
  13. cool about the struts for now.......work has begun on roberts brat-but the crossmember will need modified or adapted with a lift as its too narrow i got yer pics. they are really small, like thumbnail size. but i put them up on my site with the pics of the ea82 82 brat from the swap meet here they are http://www.warpthree.com/milesfox/82brat
  14. keep in mind that shocks do not suppor the weight of the car, but rather controls the rate at which it bounces up and down you can crank up the torsion bar by turning the nut on top of the suspension tube(4wd) the easiest rout would be to look into using an ea82 rear coilover, but you wil lhave to fab the top mount
  15. heating the nut with a propane torch will help. heat it up till it starts to glow. pour water in the aaxle stub itself, that way it will help shrink it compared to the expansionof the nut itself. but i recommend this as one of a last effort, if nothing seems to work
  16. try ordering for an 85 or 86 4wd wagon, as 85 and 86 are the only years for the adjustable strut on ea82
  17. ust the clutch for the trans, and the flywheel for the trans that you are using. bellhousing grind, the rest of the common info.... take a peek under half of the boards' rides............
  18. yosh's 90 legacy pulled my trashwagon out of the woods!
  19. if yer not too far i have a spring compressor tool.. i got a few ea82 related arts, some turbo parts if you may need parts some time
  20. the pictures above were the result of the bolt being seized in the intake, they twisted off at the head. the heads were cracked on this motor anyway, so i cut the itake to remove the heads, and keep the short-block other instances i have hasd a bolt break off at the base of the intake. but i have reassembled the intake minus a bolt, and it has been fine for over 4000 miles. i had another motor like that as well one spfi wagon we had busted 2 bolts on one head. so with the head off the car we mwelded some allthread to make studs for th eintake. but one of them broke torquing it down. but it still worked, even thru a mild overheat(radiator) the other one busted off when i removed the intake, but i have put it back together with just 1 bolts, and it runs like its supposed to, but has not been driven on yet. i hope this helps, this is what has worked for me..
  21. yeah, dr.rx knows his stuff when it comes to RX my buddy has an 87rx 3-door, i have known tha last 2 previous owners, the car for at least 5 years... anyway, we made a semi-lift in the rear to help the 205/55 16 chevy 6-lug rims drilled out to fit subaru check out the link in my signature, lots of pics of what we are doing with soobs check out the 87rx folder for the semi-lift
